All from her Rhythm Nation Album which was inducted into The National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. Her Albums have topped Billboard's 200 charts between 1986 -2017. The best funkiest Janet song is Miss You Much! But make sure you watch the chair dance section at the end. It gets cut off in the end of the official video. It’s important because it inspired a generation of artists!

The Minneapolis Sound originated with Prince and the group The Time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were members of The Time and went on to become super producers. Check out The Time's Jungle Love, it's fantastic. The band, ABC, had a song named Minneapolis, which was an ode to the Minneapolis Sound. They captured it perfectly!

wasn't the minneapolis sound popularized with Prince and his various protégés and side-projects? but the origin is actually a multitude of different rnb groups in minneapolis (flyte tyme, 94 east's "just another sucker", ...)

The Minneapolis sound is basically anything sort of Prince related i.e. producers that came from Prince and the Revolution or The Time. Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis came from The Time and had HUGE success with Janet, they also did, The Human League, The S.O.S Band, and a number of other artists. They were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on what was the 25th anniversary of the "Control" album. They were also used when Janet teamed with Michael for "Scream", A MUST SEE ICONIC VIDEO AND PERFORMANCE!

Most of this video was done in a single take; with only a few breaks in the action. One when Jane leaves the balcony to enter the apartment, and one when she leave her room. Once she is on the stream; we don't get another cut until the bar. The cut comes when she enters the bar, and again when she leave. It's at the camera flash; that the cut comes in. If you look closely; you'll notices there's more people on the street now. The last cut comes near the end of the song; right before the police show up. Other than that; It's all one long continuous shot

IMO, Janet's golden era is the control era. Her live performances at the 1987 American music awards & Grammys is something to rival MJ as far as being pioneers on the big stage. Great reaction and review carnal. And, great ear too. The MINNIOPOLIS SOUND CONSIST OF -Prince
    - The Tyme
    - Jimmy Jam/ Terry Lewis (Janet's producers), AND LET ME TELL YOU BROTHER ITS A SOUND TO BEHOLD. GREAT GREAT GREAT MUSIC FROM THAT REGION, AND JANET'S MUSIC WAS PRODUCED BY ONE OF THE GREATEST PRODUCING DUO'S OF ALL TIME. DUDE, IM TELLING YOU THAT IF YOU LOVE FUNK THEN YOU'LL LOVE THIS GENRE.

One thing I had never noticed about this video until now: is this a one-shot viedo? Now I need to go back and check for filming breaks.
Update: unknown. There are a few places where really good editing could allow breaks (when she enters her room from the balcony, after she slides down the railing, when she enters the club, the camera flash, the panning behind whatever makes it black at the ending dance scene)... but it certainly has the FEEL of a one-take video. I believe that was rare at the time.

This video inspired me to go back and look at a lot of the earlier female artists you have covered in the past, like Ann Wilson, Karen Carpenter, and Stevie Nicks. Wow, over the decades it's pretty easy to see how mainstream music has intentionally dumbed us down. Janet is a long way from Carole King and Joni Mitchell.

I’ve often wondered this, in this era of “reaction” videos. I think the difference for previous generations is that we grew up when much of music was consumed on the radio. So you basically heard what was played on the radio stations you listened to, or your parents listened to. It wasn’t unusual for the “top hits” stations to occasionally play a song from 10 or 20 years ago. But now, for younger generations, most music is probably consumed on Spotify, Sirius, etc. So unless you’re seeking out older music, or have parents that expose you to it, you’re just not hearing it. That’s my theory.
