You could not have made this video at a better time. A- 4th of July sales! B- I've been going through a lot of your old videos for ideas. Building up my Tacoma for overlanding and love your thought process and mindset. We think a lot alike so the way you do your set-up is not just practical but satisfying for me! Thanks for making these videos!
One thing that's nice and desirable with camping (and to some extent overlanding) is to keep it simple and 'primitive ' I think. So fast and easy setup and take down goes with that spirit.
Another fun and useful vid👍 Cant go wrong with the plano sportsman trunks. I've got like 10 of the smaller 56 quart ones and they're so handy for organizing your kit. I've got one for my car camp kit which has everything I need for an overnight or two and stays in the back seat area of my Frontier in case I finish work early on a Friday and on a whim decide to just head out to the Hoosier National Forest instead of home for a nice overnight. Also got one set up as my camp kitchen for when I'm going to be out with a group and need fancier cooking capability for 4 or more peeps. Then of course one set up for backpacking, hunting, fishing, kayaking, and so on. Great thing is they all stack neatly in a closet labeled and ready to grab and go. And they're pretty water and dust resistant as well for throwing in the pickup bed.
With the butane stove you can put the cap back on the can and turn it around to face the other way and it fits inside for transport/ storage and it won't leak. Saves space.
Honestly major respect. The fact you want to avoid shooting a bear just makes me feel happy. There are so many people out there that just want to kill everything they see and ruin the wildlife
I have an REI CO-op version of that Helinox. Also it easy to not put a lot of thought into your storage when overlanding but those Plano tubs are the best I have two of them and they are strong as heck. I stand on them when I am loading the roof too.
On the subject of cookware... Blackstone has made some small griddles that are gas powered... you will be the king of the campsite and everyone will love (or love to hate) you.
The big bin approach is the way to go. I keep my tent, bedding, cooking stuff, dry food, sodastream, and other misc stuff in there. Throw the bin in the truck, pack the cooler and a duffle, fill up the water jug, and send it.
Speaking of forgetting food, I’ve got two daughters and when they were young I forgot their little bags of Goldfish snacks on a camping trip. Complete meltdown! 😂
good video i use most of the same stuff but going to a platform with a drawer to see if that makes it a little easier and faster. Like the shower cady and the chair. Good Camping
I have those stick folding chairs I got mine around $24 bucks and they are great! great review on streamlight headlamp! keep it simple. I wish the plano trunk was a little bit high so that it would at least reach the top of my bed.
Currently putting together a camping bin for my daughter, so good timing. Keeping the budget small, but I don't want her to skip camping just for not having stuff or not knowing what she needs
Highly informative video. As a commercial helicopter pilot, I as all pilots are big on checklists which reduces almost to zero chance of forgetting or skipping over necessary items or procedures. I have laminated hard copies of a checklist affixed to my totes and the same list entered into my smartphone and tablet. I would be totally bummed out if I forgot the ribeyes in the freezer which I intended to grill over a campfire or forgot the booze in my liquor vault.
I'm a auto tech and I can vouch for the streamlight brand. I have various lights from them that I use at work every day and they are great all around, definitely not a lower end brand at all. They are the name brand all technicians I've encountered recommend. Good stuff for the price.
I have been “car camping” a lot recently and it’s always nice to watch the vids and see what you use! Always great to have durable items so they can hold up for along time! Thanks for the great work keep it up!
Great vid. I just got an X-Cover on Craigslist. I'm waiting on my bed rack and planning to take my family out next week. Lots of useful info here.. thanks..
Great video! I'm building my weekenderlander FJ62 and have been taking a lot of notes. You mention a lot of things I don't even think of! Oh yeah, and more Land Cruiser videos! That 80 is dope and deserves more attention ;)
I'm currently testing the Olight Array headlamp, have taken it out on one trip and will take it out in my next trip. I don't drive so I have to pack in a way that works best for my driver for that trip
You might be interested in the gear by Self Reliance Outfitters (SRO), by David Canterbury. Buschcraft orientated but still quite a few useful items like the bedroll cook kit.
Having that bin with all your gear is such a simple idea and I feel like an idiot for not thinking/having one. All my gear is stored everywhere. Thanks for the video.
" I don't want to shoot a predator, unless its a human trying to do me harm" That's the only reason why I carry when go camping, I trust a wild animal more than I do a human. Animals wont attack unless provoked, humans on the other hand...
Jim Bond Thank you for the advice. I’ll make sure not to provoke/approach any hungry, rabid, scared, injured animal, as I was not aware they will attack. I’ll make sure not to camp/hike in their habitat anymore, since for the last 15 years i assumed they were all friendly and cuddly.
got a streamlight headlamp thinking it was going to be quality, its absolute garbage. at this point ill take olight over any streamlight product. have had multiple olight products with zero issues, both streamlight products ive had have been problematic. great content,
Last Line Of Defense yeah you can have some killer bonfires in the PNW, but is also almost always wet. Still loving Colorado! The roads into the backcountry here are not found anywhere else in America. Best place to overland / car camp if you like gettin UP there. Last weekend we did Kennebec Pass outside of Durango and it was rad
Really don't need a pan if you bring a roll of tinfoil. I do this a lot, I believe it's called hobo pack. Potatoes, sausage links, onions, garlic butter, here we go lol. It's gonna be good.
Mike, Do you ever camp solo and what would you suggest to those who will with respect to safety. If you're hiking and become injured how do you reach out?
Hey man, I’m a Veteran who’s just getting into overland adventuring. LLOD has shown me some basics, and I have the advantage of having roommate who is experienced. But I’m also in Colorado, and would love to meet up and overland with y’all sometime and learn from the best. Would you be interested in that?
You've mentioned a couple times about doing a video on bathroom/#2 stuff--I noticed you don't mention any of that. I'd be curious to know either what you do or use especially when camping in a more open/exposed area.
I’m just getting into overland and I’m trying figure out where to go. I know I just drive up into the mountains and just camp and a first come first serve campsites but with COVID going on everyone and their mother is doing that right now and I want to explore and be off grid where no one is around for miles. I live a couple hours from Yosemite National park. So my question is where can and where can’t I set up camp?
That shower caddy thing is a great idea. I think I am going to pick up a couple of them. Seems like it would be a dandy first aid kit. I totally agree about the two burner Coleman. It's a tank but it always works and has for years. Question; I realize this isn't the gun centric channel, but do you stick with 9x19 always or switch it up a bit depending on where you'll be camping? Finally, your thoughts on less than lethal 20 0r 12ga rounds in place of spray?
Do you have a container you used that fits under the Tacoma bed platform cutouts? Not sure if you ever used anything when/if you had a platform built early on.
Im a newer subscriber. Really enjoying the videos and also a Tacoma owner. I’d like to know more about that land cruiser ? in the background. 🤔 I like it! I also have a private label hammock that you could do a review on. Sunnysack Hammock, available on amazon. 😃
What bed rack do you have on your Tacoma? I'm looking around and trying to feel out pros and cons and what makes the most practical sense. Thanks for all the gear videos!
Do you ever regret the Berliner job on your rig? I want to do mine but I’m not sure. I know this has nothing to do with the video but I been curious and I see your awesome rig in the back. Great videos by the way. Thanks in advance.
@@LastLineOfDefense right in. Ok n the video it looked like the front end was sprayed. Any specific reason? Hoping you can shed some light? Thank you for your time.
@@LastLineOfDefense i agree! I was planning on buying a tacoma next year and saw that bronco coming out now and thought it looked really cool. I will have to test drive both though I know reliability wise it doesn't get any better than the tacoma!
Am I the only one who watches more camping gear videos, than I actually camp? Lol
Oh no. I haven't REALLY camped ever, but it's one of the main "genres" of videos that I watch.

@@_Spacecraft that sounds like the life!
You should go camping!
@@joalvarez6252 I do camp just not as much as I want. Im camping more and more every year which is great.
I love your show good job also I love your Flex hat I have one like that Very comfortable thank you and god bless all amen
Love it, don't want to shoot a predator, unless its a human... Me too bro, me too....
I love how u match everything to your vehicle. I hv a black 2019 tacoma and everythjng i own or ordering is predominantly black.
I got a Mulibex chair as my UL chair. Freaking love it. Keep it behind my back seat in the Tacoma so I always have it.

Thanks for the videos. Got my Plano sportsman trunk loaded, and a couple other bins, my 6 and 8 year old boys are going camping for the first time!
Watching this in my tent on top of Mount Mitchell NC. Lol, Even when I’m out camping I’m still watching you talk about camping.
Ohhhhhh an LLOD video.
Must see TV. 🤙🏼

Welcome back. It was fun meeting you in person at the High Desert Overland back in May. Hoping to see some more bushcraft videos.
Currently prepared to hear the word gear ⚙️

Love the big Planos. They work great and are fairly inexpensive. Nice video
