2005 Mazda Miata Engine Fuse Keep Blowing (Short to Ground Testing Fundamentals)

- Do you have a situation on your car where a fuse keeps blowing? Regardless of the type of car you have, the procedures shown in this video apply to ALL CARS!! Especially when the problem is intermittent in nature. The customers complaint on this model was when they would decelerate (come to a stop) the engine fuse would blow. Remember the key in finding these types of faults is HEAT and VIBRATION and having good service information.
Here is a link to the DIY version of the service information I use.

Why wouldn't you put a piece of hose on the bracket to help from chaffing wire from vibration?
@@briandish1787 I was comfortable with my repair, but I suppose that would have worked too as long as it was glued on.
She is growing up so fast tell your son congratulations 🎊 and God bless you all

What no one knows is that behind the scenes on this video, ScannerDanner was calling me at 10 a.m. two days into my honeymoon asking me how to set up the lights and the camera 😂. And my wife was just continually making fun of him on the phone 😂. Thank you all for the kind words and support. My wife and I are very grateful for this community and the opportunities it has opened up for us as we start our life together.
😂 yep, that sounds about right
CONGRATULATIONS, Caleb!! 👍👍🍻
Congrats Caleb may you enjoy all the joy that Love brings and have a wonderful life with your new Bride
Best of Wishes to both you and your wife!!!
My Daughter was like yours yesterday, now she's 17 and learning to drive. Time goes far too quickly, savour every minute.
Amen! Mine is teaching her daughter how to drive! Love the way she looks at dad!
Your daughter's reaction when you said "because of that little spot car dies" is priceless :)
“I’m getting a perfect shot dad, aren’t you proud of me!” Those little ladies needs your reassurance and daddy love.
Great job from the extended Danner family.
Absolutely my friend
Love how May was hanging on your every word, a daughters love for her dad is so special. Congratulations Caleb on one of the biggest steps in your life, nothing compares to living your life with a true soulmate/loved one. I enjoyed the camera work editing from Caleb, he has definitely added that something special to your videos.
thank you very much for the kind words. We have been married now for a month and appreciate all the kind words and support that we have received from the community ❤️. Much love.
Your'e Daughter did GREAT & ALSO ASKED QUESTIONS PEOPLE WOULD ALSO ASK.
How adorable your little helper May is .Great job May .Congratulations to your son on getting married.Thank you for today's lesson .
Congratulations to your son, wish him all the happiness and health.
It was real sweet seeing you with your daughter. Congrats to Caleb. Good job May, real professional, you have a lot of potential.
Man I love the way you talk. I know you are a teacher, but the way you take your time to explain everything makes the difference, comparing to other youtubers.
Thanks so much!
Use continuity setting on your multimeter. Plug into the cold side of the fuse with the red lead and place negative lead at battery negative. Wiggle harness when you hear the beeping you know exactly where the short to ground is. Great video! Thumbs up
Great tip.
works well, can use a buzzer too, bell, the short is the switch,do house wiring ,and we bell the ends of the cable,to find the other end ,bell and a battery setup, dead testing ,power off
@@richardjohn5216 if it's noisy in the shop why not. Thanks
Even though the cinematography wasn’t perfect this video helps immensely. Usually something like this has to do with rodents chewing on stuff but I will check that harness and I’ll bet this 2001 has the same problem. Thank you so much.
Deine Tochter ist ja groß geworden. Hab ich genau so gemacht, hab meine Tochter auch zur Diagnose mitgenommen. Dreimal Daumen hoch dafür. All good for you and your Family.
Congratulations Caleb for the biggest phase of you life, and May, too. Many happy returns to all of you guys.
Mae, you were GREAT!
Intermittent shorts are a pain!
Sometimes they show themselves like that one when you "moved" the harness. Good Deal!
I remember when she was a baby on a video you upload,Good bless all your family.
She will be 13 soon 😭
Looks like Caleb has some competition there. Congrats Caleb.
Watching your "shorts" shows. Your little girl is going to be a real proficient trouble-shooter..... amazing.
Nice video like always. Congrats to Caleb and his wife. Seeing your daughter brings memories back when my daughter was young and would hang out with me fixing cars and boats. She still gives me a hard time for yelling at her while she was holding the light for me. 🤣🤣. She is in her twenties now and can do a brake job change her own oil and we actually just got done rebuilding the engine on her Mini Cooper. Awesome job May. If your dad yells at you just kick him when he’s under the car and you filming him. 😜😬🤣🤣
🤣🤣
"I'm going to make Danner fix it"
5 min later
Paul is fixing it.
Good ol brotherly love
you guys have an other channel waiting for you :
"troubleshooting May's way"

in a few years time she'll be replacing engine blocks with one hand, holding a camera in the other ;)
U knew he was going to. He couldn’t resist. Tessa tape and torch

I have the same short finder, bought it off the truck in mid '90s. I think the original instructions are with it, lol. Found a lot of shorts with it. Still a viable tool today!
May did a great job Paul she sure has grown. All the best to Caleb as well. Thanks for the videos here and on the premium channel.
Thanks for supporting me and my family!
Love the cameras angles from May’s point of view . Awesome video Paul 🤙🏼

May did a fine job! The apple doesn't fall far from the tree...Bless you and your family Mr. Danner.
Hey Danner in Africa we have a saying ( A baby lion is still a lion not a cub ) May is still an Auto Tech Specialist just like his dad. thanks for the video neat diagnosis. Thanks May for holding the cam. Hey Caleb congrats
man that was cool you found that short in real time happening
Perfect example of why I do not like to film in hindsight (after figuring out the problem)
There are certain moments that cannot be recreated
Good job May! Congrats to Caleb and his wife! Thanks for the vid!
Thank you May Danner for helping your Dad and Uncle. Good job. Have a blessed and safe week to you and your family.
First Congrats to Caleb and his new bride. Second Caleb I think May is gunning for your job! May you did a great job! Reminds me of my niece one minute following Uncle Billy around like a puppy. Now all grown up and married.
A neat trick I learned is just to substitute a test light for the fuse. If the short is active, the light will be lit and you can wiggle the harness until the light goes out to locate it. On the other hand, if the short is not active, you can wiggle the harness until the light turns on to locate the short. There may be some considerations depending on the circuit design, so it's always best to familiarize yourself with the circuit diagrams first.
For sure! As some circuits will light a test light and it is normal!
I do this but with a 12v buzzer. Even if the circuit normally has a ground connection through devices you will hear changes when interacting with the harness and not have to be in line of sight to your test lamp.
I didn't want this video to end . You guys are docters
Thank you so much! Huge compliment!
You are such a wealth of knowledge and your videos are well done, even with Caleb out. Explaining your thought process is so valuable. Please keep doing what you’re doing 👍🏼.
I love how much your family is involved. It’s really what makes your channel special 👍🏻
Thank you my friend
Congratulations Caleb and Mrs Caleb! Better late than never right?!
Great job on the editing and also very well done May, not just awesome with the camera but the questions to your Dad too which made him explain things a little better. Hope to see you in more videos soon.
You have a family to be proud of Paul!
Your new helper did a good job. Give her a bonus even if she's getting paid by the hour.
My Daughter watched this with me, "What....I didn't know you could get paid by the hour" Luckily she's only 6 so so her concept of time isn't quite up to speed! Thanks for that 😁. Great video as always 👍
🤣 nice
I have 2 sons one is 10. I try to get him interested in mechanics but he is not going for it. We shall see. Great video Paul. Always enjoy your electrical troubleshooting videos.
Hello to the lovely and talented Ms. Mae - keep asking questions dear kiddo. Congrats Caleb, thanks for the great video Pop's. From a fellow Pop's.
Congrats Caleb!
May, you are another camera person in the making 😉
I have a son and daughter (and grandkids). The only time I would work on their cars was if they were by my side working with me. My daughter and I spent 2 years restoring a HJ Holden, including full rebuild of the mechanical components as well as a complete respray and mods of the body. It was a special time in our lives.
Well done guys!
MiracleMAX
Been watching your vida for a long long long time and that boy of yours is got a long career in video editing 💯
Appreciate that
Put a bulb in the fuse holders with a long length of wire to where you can see it. If the wires short as in this case the bulb will light, simple easy test and no fuses burnt out whilst testing!
In a pinch, replace the fuse with a lightbulb if you have a short to ground. When the bulb goes out or dimes, you found the short!
I love May's confidence! Love her questions!
Just be careful with the light bulb test as some circuits will light a bulb and it is normal!
Nice catch on this one Paul! And great job May!
Daughter did a nice job with camera
Thanks for the video
Love it , Family Run business , Family Traditions ! Great Job May
Excellent job by the camera lady & and congratulations to you son and new bride, ps I know this comment will be a year late but hy the sentiment still goes 👍👍
I'm a grandpa now 😀 That didn't take long did it? Thank you!
Love the intro Paul and the way you have incorporated your daughter!
Yeah, it is a little different for me with my little girl. I still feel a little uneasy showing her at all in this crazy f---ed up world we live in. But she was super excited about this and as you can tell she is really comfortable on camera 🙂
Caleb had fun editing this one.
He absolutely did!
May did a fine job she deserves a raise 😊

Congrats Caleb to a new chapter in life and May Great Job! Dad I love your videos... God Bless you all
Thank you Joe!
Hey SD! Just wanted to say what a HUGE help your videos have been! I've developed some awesome diagnostic skills and picked up this cheapish Launch CRP129E scanner off Amazon and was able to use it the other day to identify a bad wheel speed sensor on a 2005 Toyota Prius. I plugged up the scanner and set the data points for all 4 wheels and we went for a test drive and seen 3/4 sensors reading data and the LR reporting 0mph! It was so cool seeing that data in real time and knowing for absolute certainty that there is an issue with that sensor or the wiring! Thanks again man love the vidoes!
Nice to meet May! (hope I spelled that correctly ...). She's got a future in the camera world, too, there - she knew a great shot when she saw it. Nice job, May! 👍😎
That was a great way of finding a short - a puff of smoke in your face! That'll get your attention! :D
Back when my Silverado was nearly brand new ('07), I had a short in the right side marker / running lamps. Every time I thought I had fixed it, it would blow another fuse. Always when towing the dovetail car trailer on a busy highway, too. I got so mad I threw a jump wire in there. Well, needless to say, I found the short - a bundle of melted wires in a ball behind the right tail light assembly! Could've smoked the whole truck! Also got a nice brown patch on the fuse box cover map, under the cover where the jumper was. Melted the plastic where the fuse pins go, too! I got lucky on that one. My temper ALWAYS costs me money! Anyway, that truck is currently down due to a 2-speed transmission. Lost 3rd and 4th last Sunday on my way to visit my dad. 103k miles. They sure don't build 'em like they used to! I'm driving the 26 year old Volvo in it's place, and the wifey is still driving her 34 year old Grand Marquis with the ORIGINAL driveline (and in-tank electric fuel pump!!) with 272k miles on the clock (and counting)! I should've bought more of those Crown Vics, Towncars, and G/M's - I could've made a couple into pickups that actually last ... 😁
I bought one of those OTC test lights after I saw you using it one of your vehicles. Comes with the screw on alligator clip which is very handy.
Good video! Good job with the camera May! and congratulation to Caleb and his wife.
Wow Mae you did a wonderful job helping your dad!! Congratulations to Caleb and his wife!!! Pawpaw Paul is next.
Yes!
Where letting out the smoke wasn’t totally bad. 🤪 Congrats To Caleb and the new member of the Danner family. Great job May (or Mae) on the first ever camera work for dad ie: Professor Danner.
Great job may and Paul love that your kids are involved Mays comments were very touching
Congratulations Caleb and thank you May for your awesome video work and thank you Paul for your time and sharing your family with us all
Amazing Paul...who is going to find that faster then you....Great job camera girl 👧 👏
congratulations Caleb! Good job May!
Yeah that Tessa tape is really good stuff. Some manufacturers use it for the majority of the sheathing in their engine harnesses.
Thanks again for all the content! always look forward to your videos.
Good find... and I thought May did a great job!
Also, for the record, I also prefer a sheet of cardboard over creeper any day!
And congratulations Caleb!
Great clip again 👍🏻 congrats Caleb, looks like Caleb got competition there with may 😂
Congrats to Caleb on his honeymoon!! Great job to your daughter!
Congrats Caleb...and great job May!
WTG. I also like a taillight socket. Use the park light side and say a 10' extension cord. Simply crimp spades push in where the fuse goes. it will light up the bulb due to the short. When the light goes out you found the short. 10 foot cord allows to go outside the car.☺
Whaaaaaat? Married? I thought he was just a kid lol... Congratulations to you and your son... that's awesome!
Been watching you since 2012 sir. Learned a lot from you when i was still studying automotive tech. And still learning everytime you upload new content :). Good job and thank you scannerdanner bro 💪
That's a long time! May would have been 3 when you started watching 😃
Thank you my friend
Hello May!! Great job May with the filming! CONGRATULATIONS Caleb Danner....hope you had an amazing honeymoon!! Great video!!
Great job May and congrats Caleb.
Great job May! Congrats Caleb! Thanks Paul!
I hope that Caleb be well, your daughter is awesome and thanks for another fantastic video. 👍✨
Thanks for you videos Sir I appreciate all you do . I have a 08 Miata which I don't drive much. I learned a lesson a while back as I don't drive it much . I raised the hood and I saw do damage from rats . That really chapped me . I buy some of that tape . Seems like years ago I say a fellow take a flasher and use it to install it in circuit to help him find the shorted circuit . That's been 40 years ago lol
Hi May, good job. Nothing wrong with the questions; more likely than not other's have similar questions. Congrats Caleb.
Congrats Caleb.
Good video, I use light bulb in place of fuse and watch brightnes when wiggle harnesses. Love your premium channel👌
Thank you Marcus!
I respect you too much my friend
Greetings for you and your daughter from Iraq
