    Unpause gatherer flag for mangroves and raise up the single floodgate to 2.0m, down left i think is 1,5m.
    Also program the fluid dump with time schedule. 😁

      I think a stream gauge based scheduling (instead of time-based) works better for these larger dump areas.

    I konw the metal is in that corner but I would move the metal production to the otherside, then you can continue to produce metal blocks in the badtide and it frees up the good ground for more trees. The added bonus is you won't need irrigation barriers where the poduction is so will save on metal and explosives for the manual irrigation.

    When you expand the irrigation pits in the four squares, you should consider blasting a water path underneath your paths instead of using water dumps. You can put the path back over the water channel with platforms so that you don't lose any additional useable land spaces and you can place a floodgate (automated via water gauge) at the mouth of each channel. This would also solve your irrigation issue when the bad time comes!

    • @stephenrkelzer
      @stephenrkelzer 10 місяців тому +3

      Additionally, you could expand the channel system by splitting each quadrant into 4 quadrants of their own. so 2 channels each connect to the center river, and 2 channels each connect to your permanently clean outer perimeters. Use floodgates on the inner river mouths, and leave the outer perimeter mouths wide open and that should be capable of easily irrigating the entire square during a drought or a bad tide. will require a lot of dynamite and platforms, but may ensure long term survival!

    Just had the thought, at 8:23. Once you have another cornwr of the upper area secured against badtide (i cant rember off the top of my head if thats done roggt this second) you could build a massive rectangular reservoir off the side to drop your pumps into. It will probably take a few cycles to fill, but would secure water for the future quite nicely.

      I was going to suggest this!
      Perfect for Iron Teeth because their "straws" go 6-deep.
      Would need to build its height 1 tile lower than the castley bits and with dams to prevent overflow.

    To help hold more water you can use levees and dams on the “teeth” around the outside of the top tier. Also if you want to get the irrigation farther you can blast out the paths to expand the water dump and use platforms instead!

    In order to save a worker/space for pumps, maybe dynamite the inner paths then put platforms and overlay with paths again?

  • @crowaust

    I still don't understand JC's distain for Kohlrabi, it is still a +1 for the Nutrition part of beaver happiness, so you need to keep at least as many plants as you have beavers for that, and putting it in the bad water effected zone wouldn't be so bad as you would be able to get at least 1 or 2 cycles of plants in each temperate cycle on normal, and as long as it is irrigated it would last through droughts, so they would only die in the bad water cycles.
    Actually in general for beaver happiness it would probably make more sense to only plant Kohlrabi and then build Passive boosts like Campfires and Roof Top terraces etc, then you can save on beaver power by not wasting them away in a processing building :P
    I suppose it's come down to what you are prioritising on?

    • @JCTheBeard
      @JCTheBeard  10 місяців тому +2

      My main issue is that since the kohlrabi don't have a second production step, an increase in kohlrabi stores requires a huge investment or monopolization of farmer work hours instead of splitting that work between some of the farmers and other beavers working in fermenters or something else. Pound for pound, it makes much more sense to focus on the higher-yielding crops if you have a limited amount of farm labor available. Eventually we will do more kohlrabies, though 😎

  • @PauxloE

    13:30 I think instead of the dam pieces downstream of the water wheels, you need a dam around your mangroves, where you currently have the platform bridge.
    → If you want to maximise the use of the farmhouse-internal storage (which is 50 per type of crop), it might be better to mix the crops up, so every farmhouse has all crops to plant and harvest.
    → You could have saved your crops from dying by just converting the 1×1 levee square to a 3×3 levee square, no need to wait for dynamite. You can always dig it down later. (Too late now, but something for the next playthrough. Unless the irrigation physics works differently there again.)
    → For the next level down, you don't need water dumps (at least not yet, maybe later for the longer droughts/bad tides), just make sure the water doesn't completely drain out of the channel by closing it off.
    My opinion on how I think the irrigation/evaporation should work:
    The irrigation distance shouldn't depend that much of the water surface area (just from the height of water in it), but the "evaporation" rate should depend on the area being irrigated - so the 1×1 should have a similar irrigation distance as a 3×3 or a channel, and the total volume of water lost for "evaporation" would be roughly the same in both cases (i.e. surface level without a dump would go down faster for the 1×1, but a dump would need almost the same amount of water dumped in both cases to keep the level). So most of the water gets lost to actually making the ground around it green, maybe with a tiny contribution of actual water surface.

  • @andrewboice7507
    @andrewboice7507 9 місяців тому

    Instead of waiting for irrigation blocks. Blow up an irrigation ditch one tile in around the whole square, feed by dumps, platforms with roads on top. Can also run power under platforms

    Now when you have dynamite you could blast the chanel from the water source down one and wide them with one on each side. Then cover the bottom and sides with levees. So no water touches the ground made of dirt/soil. That Is supposed to block the water. Don't know if it blocks both bad and good water or not. You can read about it in the second release of update 5, the one where the made it so you couldn't stop the badwater with placing levees next to the water. It will take a lot of trees but maybe faster and cheaper than irrigation blocker (the secant piles, what ever they are called).

    • @PauxloE
      @PauxloE 9 місяців тому +1

      Yes, both irrigation and corruption need actual soil to be transferred.

  • @TwistedMe13

    7:17 Speaking of the bridge idea... you may wish to place a platform (with an irrigation barrier underneath) followed by a levee and then your bridge on each side. that way the mangroves and oak trees are protected from contamination. Course you would have to move the lower floodgates/levees out two spaces to make it contiguous.

    • @PauxloE

      The water sources are not connected, so one would first have to dig out some channels between/around them. But that would then destroy the symmetry.

    Love the gameplay just that the water pumps you should put on the outside of the gate, instead of the actual water source blocks. So that your water in the main areas are not running out as well as when the bad tide comes its not pumping the bad water. Just a more efficient and secure water source.

    Also, while you don't have much built is it worth moving all of the paths around the outside on the top tier in one block for when you are ready to place irrigation barriers. At the moment you are building all of the infrasruture up against the current path which is going to be a pretty big task to change when it comes to it.

    • @JCTheBeard
      @JCTheBeard  10 місяців тому +1

      Could be. I need to figure out exactly how those irrigation barriers work, first. If I can get away with placing those inside the reservoirs on the edges then that would be ideal. If they have to go _outside_ the reservoirs, then that will complicate things significantly. We shall see!

      @JCTheBeard ; If those barriers work remotely the same as the badwater blocks of the folktails you showed us earlier, they will be flushed with the ground as you place them (not on top as a leevee). The icon seems to show us that placement.
      Makes sense to leave a space open for them, as most likely you also can't directly place a path on them, only platforms.

    soo one thing i found odd is you using all four corners with flood gates, while good idea in practice i figured when you put them in at first youd only do it on only 2 sides n the other sides would be just pure dams in order to have less worry of badwater, and it also limit where good water comes in and or badwater in a worst case scenario

    Stopping to comment while watching (13:10), so you may have already done something about it. But, basically, it occurs to me that if you're just using one of the little outflows for water wheels, you could close one with levees, rather than having dams at both. Because otherwise you're essentially wasting half of the power :)
