The Minimal Mom Transition, decluttering ,life changes feeling uncomfortable. All things I am going through right now. I am planning to retire from my job. Moving from 6 rooms to a studio apt. Stressing about letting go of a job that is very stressful. I just keep looking at the end result. 0nly one room to clean. Leaving g behind all the stress associated with my job now Enjoying more quality time with my family. Getting there is a journey but the rewards are great. Thanks for the fitting encouragement today.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ It occurred to me while listening to your teaching that I can liken getting rid of things I don’t need, things that clutter my home and my mind, to fasting. When you fast you come to the knowledge that your body doesn’t need all the food you may have been giving it to survive well. Jesus knew that to get through the trial he was about to face he needed no distractions. Just as food can be a distraction in our life, so can material things that clutter up ore mind. I’m 66 years old and I’m excited about entering into this minimalist journey. Thank you beautiful sisters for your ministry!

That was a great analogy. I love minimalism and I actually do intermittent fasting where I only eat one meal a day and I love the simplicity of it and I've gotten so much healthier doing so 😁

I always come to your videos for all your amazing & helpful declutter, organization, lifestyle ect videos. But these Sundays with Diana have really been a blessing. I was raised Catholic. But later in life all religious practices just kind of faded. Getting in on just these few minutes on Sunday have really warmed my heart & encourages me to remember & believe in my faith. Thanks so much ❤️

    Dawn & Diana,
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for your words of truth & encouragement! The Lord knew that I needed to hear your very words this morning. You see, I am missing church today because we discovered head lice on our daughter yesterday. A trial this mother of five was not anticipating! But you know what, through each step of this gross, arduous process I have been grateful for our minimalist lifestyle. Deep cleaning simple bedrooms with fewer stuffed animals, no extra blankets or pillows, and minimal toys has been a blessing! I’ve remembered your encouragement with gratitude as I stripped five beds containing just the essentials. Gathering up hair brushes and accessories wasn’t painful because I know exactly how many we have and where they all are. Deep cleaning all my living spaces takes time and energy but because we own no nonessential furniture or decor, I’m not moving tons of things to vacuum and scrub around. This trial is much more manageable because our minimalist lifestyle has equipped us to deal with it more efficiently. Thank you for your help along the way!

LOL your mom’s generation. I am your moms generation and love simple fashion. Your videos keep me motivated. My hardest thing is all the family heirlooms and trying to find family members who want and will appreciate these things. I downsized to another house and no longer have room and want others to enjoy these things that I have enjoyed for years. A hint I have for clothing is once a year I clean out my closet and get rid of all the things I haven’t worn in a year or that I no longer want. Then I hang everything left backwards then in a year I can see what I have not worn and get rid of it. In between I keep a bag in my closet if I put anything on and I don’t like the way it looks or fit I immediately put it in the bag for donation. This has been working for me for about three years now and feels great.

I love all of your videos! I would say not to pass items onto friends or family though. I have five daughters and we homeschool. It is a very frequent occurrence that someone brings us a box of items they assume we’d like to have that they are decluttering. I am definitely a people pleaser it is causes me to freeze when they ask if we’d like the items. I don’t want to hurt their feelings so I almost always have accepted the items. Their stress is then passed to me. Especially if they give the items to the girls and they become attached even if the items are then spread all over the house. Unless you are completely certain the items are something that person would be buying regardless, just donate the items to a center instead. Or present them in a way where the other person feels 0% obligation to accept them. I am getting better at saying no, but it definitely doesn’t come easy to me.

I agree! I sometimes put things I think might be worthwhile to friends in a box (even put in my car if I'm going to see them) and say "I'm getting rid of some things, if you want any of it feel free to take it." Sometimes people are happy to take something.

This week I was obsessing over some high quality mint tea I stored in a jar in my kitchen. Finally, I said to myself, "I'm not a tea drinker." I just like the idea of tea. I felt so relieved giving it to my neighbor. It's so ridiculous to put so much thought into tea! Your videos always inspire.

    • @theannamueller
      @theannamueller 3 роки тому +1

I can relate. I had a huge collection of assorted teas, because just in case a guest would like to drink tea I wanted them to have a great selection. Just a couple of days ago I disposed all of the teabags that have been waiting to be used up for years, kept only my favorite sorts and it felt so deliberating. I realized that I wanted to be considered a good and thoughtful host, but the reality is that anybody who visits me is here because they enjoy my company and not because of the teas I have on offer.

This was really good! The Lord called me from one career to another. About 2 years before it happened, the transition process began in my heart which transformed the thoughts & connections I had to the current job. This fostered my desire to accept & obey the Lord's will and navigate the scary process of a career change. Transition does lead to transformation; often in ways unimaginable by us as we're traveling through it.

Good morning Diana and Dawn. Very powerful message. Pleased with myself that I have been going through my closet...donated a bag the other day to my local church's donation box. Still have items to go through but it is getting easier. Have done it with books so I can do it with clothes. Then need to tackle other items I've been holding on to. As always, a wonderful reminder. I am struggling with my teen, and I do think a big part of it is that I am realizing that she is growing up and with that comes separation. When she was a baby, toddler, preschooler, etc, this day seemed so far off. Now, she's getting ready to drive, get her first job and looking at colleges. Thankfully, I do have the Lord to learn on through this because I am finding it hard to let go.

Ordinarily I love these Sunday Faith videos. But it concerns me what Diana said about Jesus in the desert. It was not a thought, it was not a hallucination. Satan himself tempted Jesus. The passage is very clear and not ambivalent in any way. After Jesus responds the last time the Word of God says...”When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.” Not just a thought Jesus was having because of the elements or starvation. Please hear my heart, I’m in no way trying to be ugly, but it’s very important that we do not change what the Word of God says.

Patricia I realized several years ago that’s how I am with book titles. It’s not so much that I had the time or intention to READ the whole book; I just wanted the concept of the title to be true in my life: “Becoming a Spirit Led Mom”, “Gospel-Powered Parenting”, “A Woman after God’s Own Heart.” It helped me part with the unread books when I turned those titles into prayers.

This week I was frustrated from not having room in my closet and I told my husband I still need to get rid of more stuff (I had already sorted through my stuff prior), I literally went through and pulled out 20 things with my husbands help and I felt so guilty bc at least 10 of those things were still new with tags and I found myself wanting to keep them just bc they were new but I was like, wait!! You didn’t wear them last spring, what makes you think your going to wear them this spring????? So that really helped me, I felt guilty but I felt so much better afterward when they were out of my closet! Trying to never make that mistake again!!! 🤞🏼

I see these every Monday morning and I absolutely love the dilemmas or shared hardship and the encouragement we receive along with a devotion! I love these videos. I never saw the transition period of God as being so personal like us moving, decluttering, striving to be good stewards consistently will require great attention to transition but sometimes and rarely for me is it to just stay, be calm and wait on the Lord. So much transition has happened this year that halted my decluttering rather than to excel it, ( deferred decisions) and it becomes almost paralyzing because our brains can’t seem to register the simplicity of “its just stuff”.

We’ve (even with our extended family) come to realize we have so much and don’t need it, it doesn’t get played with... we’ve asked for experiences for our kids... take them out to a movie, rent a hotel room at a place with a waterpark and enjoy that instead. Take them places and do things with them instead. My parents have supported this well, as have my in-laws. We might be going as a group to a rock climbing wall instead of a bunch of Christmas presents!! Pretty excited for that!

Our house isn’t big enough for all this! We do donate a lot. My kids aren’t big into technology, so it’s not like they have tablets they play on, but they still don’t play with all the toys they have. Plus, they get overwhelmed when they have so much.

I so appreciate you're affirming the emotional connections that come up with decluttering decisions. I have just found some old books on housekeeping , Don Aslett, etc., and they don't address that issue. Rather, they address it from the outside in, not the inside out like you do, and that makes such a difference in how I am able to absorb it and move on.

My husband and I moved a little over 2 years ago on faith because God was calling Mike to be a Pastor. It was one of my biggest mixture of blessings and trials. Spiritually completely on point, Faith with finances/job/home- not so good. It took me some time to understand and i still in my own mind or flesh can shudder from it all. From the move and sacrifice I feel a much stronger connection with God and Jesus. Honestly it would also be the very 1st step to Minimalism for me since I moved into a much smaller home and was forced to deal with and pare down my things. I'm now in a slightly easier transition now with adjusting to teenagers- this one hit me hard because I thought we'd all be better at this.
I'll have to share that definition with my husband because it's awesome. My husband preaches on Jesus's trials as same ones we face today- lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16 as reference). Thank you for your beautiful and wonderful thoughts! :)

Loved this, thank you!! PLEASE PLEASE can you do a video specifically about school paper clutter? I'm drowning in paper that comes home. It's either 1) things we need to respond to, 2) work that kids are proud of and I don't want to throw out right away, or 3) newsletters or information that I'll read at some point when I have time. But several pieces of paper come home EVERY DAY. What can I do with it all? Thanks, Dawn and Diana. I can't tell you how much I appreciate you!

I am compelled to share with you that, in large part due to you, I have steadily been minimizing my home. I still have a ways to go, so it sometimes feels it will take forever. However, last night I decided to go ahead & get all my Christmas decorations out...because...well...I am just one of those people. I was halfway dreading the mess i would make trying to get my decorations up. But guess what?! It took me FIVE minutes to decorate because I decluttered all that stuff last yr!! The focal point will be my tree (when the real ones are available), but aside from that I set out a few pillows & THREE other small items! WOOHOO!🕺 Thanks for all you do!

Hey just some food for thought- women in shelters, espically ones escaping from rape or domestic violence with their kids - looking like they are "sunkist" isn't exactly their first priority either. As much as some women have appreciated beauty products in shelters, the amount of times I've seen decluttering videos saying they'll give the most frivilous beauty products they don't use to a battered women's shelter is more than I can count. Or the webpages that say it's important we have nail polish to feel confident.....? When the Salvation Army gave us gifts after my daughters were molested by their dad - it included 2 Barbie dolls each, one fashion barbie and one disco barbie, and let me tell you, I'm sure their intent was pure, but dolls dressed up "pretty" as a gift for my sexually abused 4 & 6 year old hurt to a degree I can't express. Here are some other ideas of things you could pass on: half used adult colouring books or art supplies (good for art therapy/mindfulness), gym memberships you aren't using (to feel strong again), positive self-help books you found beneficial but won't read again.

Right now I'm trying to weed out all the toys we've accumulated over 35 years (5 kids). Obviously, we got rid of a lot thru the years but I kept favorite toys for my grandchildren (3 so far). But I gathered every toy into a room I want to be a play room for the grandkids and there was waaaaay too much! Oh my! But... I have so many great memories associated with each toy I kept that this transition is really hard on my mommy heart. Thank you for this, and especially the prayer at the end. My daughter-in-law is praying for me and encouraging me as I go thru this painful process. And the Lord spoke to my mind about letting go of specific toys while I was praying at church yesterday. He is so good!!!

My 23 year old daughter, who moved out about a year-and-a-half ago, has been on a minimalism journey herself. She recently brought over six totes of her childhood stuff so I could bring it to our homeschool Co-op where we give away things to each other. I had such a hard time not pulling out a bunch of things from her bins from her childhood!! I was really shocked! I think I can get rid of my own things from my childhood easier than my adult daughter's things! LOL! My 8 year old and 11 year old daughters have also been doing a ton of decluttering along with me and their stuff wasn't very hard for me, maybe because their stuff feels like it takes over our house and I was ready for it to go? And I haven't seen my adult daughter's stuff for a while and it brought back memories. I was just so surprised at the feelings it brought up and how hard it was! I'm proud to say though, that I did not pull one thing out of the bins to keep for myself. Thank you for the inspiration to get to this place!

I am interested in seeing how Diana is dealing with clothes, particularly regarding pregnancy. I'm a few weeks behind Diana, and I'm in this awkward place where I'm setting aside clothes I'm outgrowing, but I see no reason to actually get rid of them because I do expect to someday deliver this child and return to a similar-to-pre-pregnancy size.

Oh, this hit home as we are moving from our home of 20 years to begin a new journey in a new home in another area. It's been exciting but so stressful at the same time. I thank God I found your channel over a year ago and have let go of so much stuff already ( with no knowledge of the move yet). What a blessing. And now that I've lived with so much boxed up for 6 weeks, I know I can let go of more as I unpack! Thank you both. God is truly using both of you in your own special ways.

Thank you so much ladies, that was very encouraging to hear today. Just what I needed. I am busy decluttering my house, to move to a much smaller home for 6 months, and then ultimately to emigrate taking only a few sentimental items. This is a huge task and a journey, and this channel and your Christian walk has been such an inspiration to me. Thank you, and may God keep blessing you both.

Part of my struggle is my family growing up had an attitude of wearing things out before you got rid of something. Not, mind you, getting something new after it wore out. So we would get new things, mostly clothing, but not get rid of the older things until closets were bursting at the seams, and even then.... after my mom died, there were so many things to let go of. I’m not like that at all. I let go of clothes and books and other things regularly, but I’m still finding and letting go of stuff from my family that got packed away, there was so much and so many expectations attached to it. I keep feeling disappointment and disapproval, from the beyond, as I give away china and furniture to younger members of my husband’s family who would like them. I am the “hinge” person in the stuff collection train, if that makes sense.

Do you have a “Buy Nothing” Facebook group in your area? I belong to a group in my neighborhood and when I don’t want to throw something in the landfill, I’ve usually been able to gift it to someone in my group that has a need or just the right spot for something. I don’t have to leave home because they come and get it. It helps me to get to know my neighbors, as well!

Thanks for sharing this. I'm having so much trouble getting rid of some items. I feel like I'm throwing away memories if I get rid of them. It's mostly my kids items, but there are also some from my childhood and high school years that I've been holding on to. I started crying last week after I put a bus that my son used to love playing with, in the donation box. I ended up taking a picture of it and that really helped me to part with it. Your channel has been so helpful to me in this transition and I still have so much to go through.

And this video came up because I love your videos I watch all of them but had never seen this one before period today this 1 spoke to me I feel like we are in the desert the same way you spoke about Jesus. My husband and I have three adopted children and we are going through what feels like an immense trial dealing with a major military move as well as some disabilities that have been brought to our attention. It man sound corny, but this video and your words made my day, made me feel not so alone. I appreciate you both. God bless you and your family

Once a month I have my house cleaned. Before the ladies come I put all of my clutter away to make it easier for them. I usually put it in the nearest drawer. After they leave the house sparkles but it looks so “stiff”. I get my clutter back out and it feels comfortable again but cluttered. This month I am going to be slower in getting things back out to see if there are any I can actually live without. So many of them have memories of the people who gifted them to me who are no longer with us. What to do.

Normally real clutter you can't fit in drawers right away quickly as people come in doesn't sound like you actually have clutter if it makes you feel stressed having it setting around then it is clutter Know somebody else would love it in their home they can't afford to buy those things I know I've been there and how excited I was when I went to donation centers and picked up a couple things for my home whatever you decide to do someone's going to love it because if you choose to keep it you love it and it's truly worth the space into taking up in your home
