When I was in high school our choir teacher taught us this version of the song. When we performed it for the first time in the school hall, the whole school went quiet. I can't describe the feeling bros, it was ethereal af. Peeps were crying. This is my favorite choir song I've ever had the absolute pleasure of performing, and it's one of my favorite pieces of music ever. Just stunning

Where charity and love are, God is there. Christ's love has gathered us into one. Let us rejoice and be pleased in Him. Let us fear, and let us love the living God. And may we love each other with a sincere heart. Thank you, Gary and Choir, for this beautiful music.
Damn. Here I thought WE were singing it well. Cough. What really kinda got me was the half-hum, half-sing bit in the end. Found it curious but it gave me slight goosebumps when the Amen finished. What a guy, that Gjeilo. Good choir. Good mustache on that conductor.
That was actually the composer's request that some of the singers hum while the rest sing as normal. It is a nice effect. Thanks for the comment - GW (The conductor)
I just love the sound of the different voices blending perfectly, the absence of soprano vibrato and over all the composed way of conducting this absolutely wonderful piece of music by Gjeilo. I can listen to this piece over and over again ...
Yeah I'm a freshman and I'm in treble choir and we learned this a few weeks ago. My winter concert is next week and since our school is known for having really great choirs, orchestras, and bands, I'm very excited for our songs that we're doing.
@@mandontlookatme6562 I got this piece my first day of freshman choir and I totally feel you. Having such a prestigious choir program to uphold is strenuous but also wonderful because you get to do pieces like this.
Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Congregavit nos in unum Christi amor. Exultemus, et in ipso iucundemur. Timeamus, et amemus Deum vivum. Et ex corde diligamus nos sincero.
This is the song I was singing when I met my now-fiance at a Lent concert!!!! I've been looking for a good version. OH MY GOSH. You are all my HEROES!!! This is PHENOMENAL. Absolutely breathtaking.
The superior vocal dynamics emitted from this wonderful choir is an audible tribute to the directorship of Gary Weidenaar. While listening, one need only to close your eyes and feel transcended into a historic, Europian cathedral or basilica and a thrilling spirituality.. Outstanding choir, outstanding director!
Delivered with polished precision and heart. I loved viewing the fact even those that were not singing, were breathing with the ensemble. Incredible devotion to beautiful sound. Many thanks!!
Truly delightful. I have sung professionally in So. Cal. for years and just want to compliment you all including the conductor. Really extraordinary singing and conducting! Hope some of you if not all of you have continued your singing.
My all women church choir just performed this at a Tenebrae service last Sunday. I brought my music home to practice along with this magnificent choir. Thank you for posting on UA-cam. I love singing it-2nd Alto.
This is one of the most beautiful choral pieces I have ever heard. I was blessed to have been able to sing this song back in High School. Strange how I remember exactly how to sing it word from word and everything. Music is such an amazing and mysterious thing. Breath taking. Simply breath taking.
we performed this in my high school choir. Definite!y one of my favorite choral pieces I've ever performed. Funny how it has been years since that time and I still remember the myriad nites. Beautiful
I've loved this song for a long time. This is an exceptional performance, and will serve as a model for my young singers. I am hoping to have Crossroads North Middle School Vocal Ensemble perform this one soon...We love Ola Gjeilo in New Jersey!
My choir is doing this song and it’s quite interesting as it’s a college level song and we’re preforming it for festival. It’s such an amazing song and I love Latin.
Used to sing this piece back in high school with my OG chorister friends. This was the only accapella piece we could pretty decently. It still remains a beautiful piece, would be nice to sing it again someday....
We're singing this song in specialty choir this year. I've never hear of the song before now, and I'm in absolute love with it. You all do an amazing job at performing it.
i really enjoy this composer's work. wonderful, full sounds as well as subtle sensitive sections. hmmmmm. want to choose one for my funeral. That will put the 'fun' back in funeral.
This CWU recording stands out among the many now posted on UA-cam, as it expresses a dramatic tension among the 4 voices. As I see it, Gjeilo intended that each voice take a turn in carrying the melody. The publisher of this score includes a note by Gjeilo acknowledging his inspiration from the Gregorian Chant tradition, (in which “call-and-response” often plays a key role). The message of UBI CARITAS is: love shared.
negatively criticize - all musicians do it quite often..... for me the most important thing is that the music was happening durring all the time with wonderful and beautiful nuances and brings pleasure, delight and peace.
It's so refreshing to hear Sopranos and Altos singing in near-perfect, if not utterly perfect, unison without some Diva ruining the experience. Bravo!
Amen absolutely
That comment reminds me of Titanic
@@rodrigocamargo8400 It was so tragic at the time

My school too
This piece is the closest I've heard to the indefinable perfect choral sound. And this choir's rendition really is perfection.
10 years ago... and still one of the best version of this masterpiece ! (*goosebumps*) ....
I find Gjeilo's own uploaded version to be even better. It's basically this version plus some incredibly beautiful piano!

oh my god it's beautiful. Thank you so much! :)
You sir are a genius
Requiem verdi
Omg :O Beautiful
That's incredible! And that's thanks to the almost perfect tempo of the choir. Very impressive.

У меня тоже мурашки побежали... Поем это произведение в хоре с особым удовольствием.

This extraordinary performance of Gjeilo's masterpiece gave me goosebumps. It is perfection itself!!💖
Wow. My high school choir just got introduced to this today. We have a long way to go

We are doing it for our middle school concert
My thoughts exactly. My choir is also singing this.
Thats a great attitude. Eventually you will surpass this performance if you explore and accept the path to get there.
In this crazy chaotic world this reminds me of something truly important.

Everything about this recording delights me, right up to the final decrescendo on that sustained "n." Lovely work, folks.
This piece is stunning! This choir performs this piece brilliantly! Bravo!
I just love this song. My high school choir did it so I was humming along to the alto part. :) This was a beautiful rendition!
Wow! So beautifully sung. Thank you for posting.
Difficult to sing this glorious piece well. This choir does it justice.

I think this is the best interpretation of this piece! Well at least my favorite! ❤️ Great job!
This conductor should be really proud, this is beautiful.

Beautiful BEAUTIFUL peace. We're singing this in my high school madrigal group, and it makes me feel like I'm in a cathedral or monastery. Love it.

Very beautiful! Perfect blending!
APPRECIATE VERY MUCH!! BEAUTIFUL MEDITATIVE PERFORMANCE. THANK YOU!!
I didn't know there was a choral version of this. I fell in love with the piano improvisation. This just makes it 1000x more amazing.

We are singing this for The Bishop on Saturday and If we sound anything near this beautiful, I will be pleased.
Magnífica interpretación de la obra de Gjeilo.
Beautifully done!!!!
What a lovely composition sung by a beautiful, musical choir.
Stunning. THE reference for any choir to work towards as we are for a performance in Granada Saturday 22 March.
amazing, I'm crying a lot! Thank you very much!
Congratulations from a UK cathedral chorister! This is superb.
indeed one of the best versions of this piece, which I really love. Thank you
Nice, impressive, tender. I like it very much.

Si merveilleux, si beau !!!
My high school choir did this 40 years ago...trip down memory lane...
Not this version. The composer is only 42! 😊
The original melody is hundreds of years old and hasn't changed from what I remember 🙂
Oops. I️m crying. Ugh, we did this song last year and I️ miss it so much. It’s my senior year in high school and I️m gonna miss choir so much :(
Me encanta. Muy bonito y conmovedor. Gracias
I agree! That's the whole point of a choir. "Listen louder than you sing." It's all about the blending of voices. :) Love this!!
Thank you all for singing & posting this for everyone to enjoy!! Our little Capella Choir is learning it now...this'll help!! Keep singing!!
Your choir sings so beautifully. You have been a blessing for many with this video addition to UA-cam.
Absolutely stunning. The blend and unity of the vowels are incredible.
wow ubi caritas is just a song that comforts me

Wow, wow, amazing.
Our AMA Choir sang this in the Salzburg Cathedral and it gave me goosebumps. They weren't as good as this of course, but they still sounded great.
From first note to the last -
P e r f e c t i o n.
Splendide, émouvant...
This choir blends absolutely brilliantly! A perfect sound for Gjeilo or Whatacre. Well done!
Lovely Gary! Been a long time but you're clearly doing fabulous work by the sound of this! Bravo!!
Thanks, Tecwyn!
This is excellent, but not surprising for CWU hosts for Washington State WIAA competitions in May of each year.
