I have seen many B58 users up the viscosity of the oil to 5w-30 specially if you are making more power. There is lots of info that state you can use either viscosity 0w-20 or 5w-30. Many manufactures use thinner oil to meet USA standards. As long as it has the BMW specs for your engine it ok to use. As far as the filter goes wear and tear are mainly caused by metals going back to the engine through cheap filters. Using a better filter shouldn't cause any issues with performance. BMW service intervals are recommended at 7500 miles I would be more concerned about that than the oil filter doing a better job than the factory one. Those specs are at 99% efficiency so at lower rates the filter will go down to about 10 microns of filtration. Anything under that would most likely go through the filter media. I use magnets on the oil drain pan that helps with ferrous metals. On my other cars I use them on the filter also.
@ExtremDIY both combinations hurt and they end up having pump failures. Oil viscosity is range is approved with system pressure etc in mind. Tighter filters incresse that. 5w 30 or 0w 30 are essentially simillar at operating temps. 40s a tad more viscous better for older or higher power mods however the filter is still key. U dont need 20 microns.
Thank you for the video I like the idea of the magnetic drain bolt.
Thank you for this filter and oil
Very welcome
Thank you
Welcome
Thank you made it possible to get it done
Welcome
Great help. thanks
Very detailed video. Thanks

Thanks
30 microns is designed with the pump and pressures in mind. Thicker oil, tighter filter will hurt your car.
