- This week we take our first flight across the English Channel to France! It was far easier than we ever thought and we managed to get there in a little over 2 hours from Gamston, in time for a delightful lunch in the town of Le Touquet.
Noel: what are you doing Sam?
Sam: yep.
He’s just in awe of his dad flying ❤
cool flight Noel :)
Funny when a UK person says "wrong side of the road" 🤣🤣 Love the video 👌
This was brilliant!! May I ask, do you still need to show your passports when you fly your own plane?
I enjoyed this. KiaOra from New Zealand
Noel ,you have to do a review of your seat and any amenities! lol oui oui no loo review
Noel Philip’s, you are an impressive dad. Our world would look much different if everyone had a dad like you. Keep up the good work.
Umm, I suspect daddy trump wasn’t the same.
Aw Sam is such a polite young man :)
Love these videos
Take a shot every time Sam says “yep” 😂
Hic ... damn you Alan .... ... 😁
Son, you are a very lucky young man and you have an amazing dad. If all dads were as good as yours the world would be a much better place. Learn all you can from your dad and I bet in 20 years time you’ll be a captain of your own plane doing international flights. I have just subscribed and liked. Greetings from Cumbria in the U.K.
Stay safe and well.
What a DAD. What a PILOT. What a SON. What a TEAM. Love it.......
This is on my bucket list Noel. I used to fly out of Netherthorpe but haven't flown in 12 years. Your channel has really inspired me to get back up there and hopefully take my son up (just need to pursuade the mrs)
My plane was a P28 also. This is bittersweet to watch. It broke my heart to lose that plane. Great memories. Thanks Noel💖
Same here... Miss that ol' PA28!
At least you've walked away in one piece...
A great kid you have there Noel. Loved the flight, part 2 here we come.
Get your owñ ride
You do realize that the guy in the tower is English but just talks like that to make the experience more 'French'.
Good work all round, glad you enjoyed the trip.
To an old co-worker of mine, the area across from Dover was where B17’s had to get into “loose” formation due to heavy flak over Bolo. If they were lucky P47’s would clear the costal AA. Sometimes it helped. When they cleared the coast into France, they tightened formation and headed toward their target. It was not for the faint of heart.
great stuff with the flight to France :) and love that Sam just says yeah to all that you are brabbling about Noel as father :)
That was so good, I can't fly planes, but I would love to do what you did.
Excellent (and very surprising) Video Noel !!! Who owns the PA28 Cherokee - is it a 180, looks like it ? Who knew you had a PPL - no mention in any of your other International Airline Flight/s videos ! Perhaps you can offer more commentary on the Cherokee, its history - when it was purchased - where it is hangared etc. that would add interest to your content, don't you think ??? On a humourous note, do you miss being able to make one of your 'Toilet Reviews' ???
Sam is such an adorable Noel mini-me!
I used to fly my girlfriend (now my wife) to Le Touquet for breakfast in the mid 70's in a PA28 (Piper Cherokee 140) ... from Southend EGMC ..
She was well impressed! The flying club I belonged to was SLAC.
Let me know if you'd like reg of planes .. I'll give reg and dates. We both smoked back then .. could export 400 fags along with alcohol at duty-free prices .. all we needed to do was to have them in a black sealed box which customs provided and as long as we landed in France, duty wasn't owed but we had to show UK customs that we had landed in France, otherwise, the duty was payable.
Absolutely wonderful, my dears!
Well done Sam and, of course, 'your private pilot' Noel!😊👍👍
All love and best wishes, Claire (expat), Lucy the cat, and Tommi the rescue dog, Berlin
Wow, what a great surprise... Only a few weeks ago I asked if you could fly Europe. Loved the video, young Sam is a great co pilot... Regards from Spain, Reni 🍷🍷
Another great video noel 👌🏻 love seeing Sam in the videos 😄
Always informative and entertaining. You're raising a good young man.
Such good fun to watch your video! When I was about the same age as your son, I started also flying with my dad , bit scary the first one as it was on a Tiger Moth , but since then we flew chipmunks, Cubs, Super Cubs , Austers ,Tri Pacers , diverse Cessnas and the last one a Bonanza V Have wonderful memories , as I am sure your son will have too ! Take care , safe flights and keep posting ! Have a good one Noel 🤝👍🤙
Father and Son duo with nice chemistry between the two.
"You're simulating flying a plane while you're actually in a plane" - love it
17:10 “squawk 7000” - oh, if only I could pronounce conspicuity when pressing the radio button on the stick.
Great to see you taking Sam overseas, and you probably wandered over my local airspace - I fly out of Crowfield under the Wattisham MATZ.
I love controllers who say '7000' still, can never get my head around 'conspisisicicicuitee' and it always sounds like I'm drunk!
I have forgotten to tell you how much I enjoyed your vlogs a few times. I am old enough to remember John Wayne movies. To me, you are a John Wayne movie. You always offer up value.
Never knew you actually flew yourself, loved it keep them coming
Bonjour Noel & Sam. Such a great video! Safe journey back to Blighty and enjoy your time together. Au Revoir gents :-)
Ha, you flew over my house when passing Southend. I really fancy learning to fly, looks so cool!
Love it! If you fancy some flying adventures in Scotland, I'd be happy to film something together :)
I buddy and sam hope all is well. Brilliant flight with no turberlace. Nice to see you doing a bit of cycling hope you had a awesome time phil.
Incredible video and what memories for Sam to look back on! How do you do those crash zooms onto the container ship and the runway etc surely that’s not a GoPro! Great as always
✈️Stumbled across this video, nice one!
What are the costs to hire and fly an aircraft like this and what are the costs in fuel on this trip?
A PA28 like this one is about £150 - £180 per hour. Club hire is usually “wet” rates, so all fuel is included. Depending where you are you might need three hours for this trip. Obviously less than that if you live in Kent. You pay a landing fee at the destination airport.
Another great video noel, I always love watching your videos even though it may make me a bit jealous.
Ah good old Noel Philips and his awesome pilot vlogs!
Came across from your travel vlogs , absolutely loved this , just to watch a dad and a son interact . Your little lad reminds me of my oldest son and how we used to interact with each other , my lad 19 now and turned into a lovely young man , but this made me miss the days when he was this age . Great video , treasure days like these and having them on camera , amazing x
just think noel most kids want the keys to the car when old enough, Sam will want the keys to the plane 😄😄
Yep
Great episode! You and your son had a great experience! Reminds me of flying with my Dad when I was a kid. So much fun!
I hope you remembered to fly on the right hand side of the sky when you got to France.
Capt Phillips has crossed the english channel congratulations!
Aw this is lovely! I also think he's getting a bit more used to the camera too?
Noel, what's your EFB software? ( I learned to fly from my dad, a WW2 flight instructor. Now, my sons and I all share the same joys) Thank you for your vlogs!
Do you need to wear the life jacket for the channel is this a requirements or just advised?
If you're less than glide distance from land you are typically required to wear a life jacket or carry a lifeboat
If the old donkey stops... you'll be a bit too busy flying the airplane to be concentrating on donning a life jacket and communicating - besides it being a bit cramped... unless you are a contortionist of course 😉
Yep it's required for ocean crossings
It's not required by law on a private flight - but would be a bit silly not to wear them. On the way back we took them off once we were well over land again as they do get a bit uncomfortable after a while. If the engine stops, I don't want to be worrying about putting on life jackets as well as trying not to crash the plane.
@@FlyWithNoelPhilips Thanks for the answer! makes complete sense
Noel, great video mate and great flying. Fantastic to see the bond with your son. I hope to solo in next few weeks and dream of taking my ten year old out for a trip.
And lol I live in Leicestershire and did that same Boulogne trip !!!!
safe travel both of you
Ps - what iPad system are you using ? Is it SKYDEMON , looks good ?
Great upload, so wish I was able to finish my flying training, maybe one day? Enjoyed your flight and what great father son team! Many Thanks
Noel’s son comes across as a well mannered, polite young man. Credit to you Noel. And great piloting Noel.
that was fun.....we fly in france...brilliant
I don't live far from gamston and would love to do more flying. Happy to split the costs! ✈️
for real though, i think it's absolutely awesome that you and your boy are flying. what an experience for him! and you!
The best yet of all of Noel's enjoyable videos.
So I didn’t need to run from the Tube to the train station for my Eurostar train and I could’ve just hopped a ride with Noel and Sam?? Darn. Maybe next time.
Really enjoyed this post vlog guys, simple, enjoyable dad and lad adventure , what a brilliant thing to be able to do
Now this is why I have to get my licence before I have kids. So that I can take them on adventures, see the land from up high.
Bad idea landing a PA28 sideways. Straighten up that nose.
This is definitely in my plans. So you just need a flight plan on this side and is it a GAR on their side? Looks relatively simple (for a ppl) to achieve something very special
Best dad ever!
Love your video! That’s what flying is all about!
excellent informative entertaining video you guys rock!
Your son looks bored Noel. He’s thinking when he’s going to do his first F-35 mission😮
That bioy looks like he's half in the bag and completely disinterested in learning to fly,
Absolutely marvellous no other words needed, joy to watch.
Just wondering why you took off with flaps Noel? Was it a shorter runway?
What a great video - must be awesome to fly with your boy.
« Feel With You » 🇫🇷💙🇬🇧 as PIC »
Top dad if you need a pee open the window and aim don’t get no splash back tho 😂💪🏻
Le Touquet is the Macron's holidays headquater 😉
How cool is this video and you two. Excellent!
I would have taken 2 swifty scooters to go into town.
Great father and son trip 🥖
Fantastic video Noel, I really enjoyed it.
Plane shows are much better with kids.
How’s your passport are you free as a seagull 😂
Flipping hope not, got me nice shorts on!
Next time take Josh on one of your flights?
how much would a flight like this cost
Does the kid say anything but "yep?" lol
I know a good place in Dover for us dinners…
07:28 absolute gold 😂
Folkestone Boulogne ferry..
Can that boy say anything other than ‘yep’?
“The hens are in the hen house !! “ 😂
do you have to pay to land at a airport noel
Yep count: 1,473,374
Wow - this brought back memories. I was in Le Touquet on a school trip (history, not geography ;) )... went to Paris, then on to Le Touquet. This was in October 1987. Guess what "breezy" event happened then? I did some map "stalking" and think the hotel is still there (whether the same one, I cant remember), but it was definitely next to the Le Touquet street market (Now its called the Hotel De Cottage). I remember it being a beautiful little town and being 15 meant alcohol was easy to purchase :p
You greased it well done 👍
I absolutely loved this video.. you and Sam have an amazing relationship.. he’s the spit of you x brilliant more like this please 🙏🏼 incidentally how much does it cost to get to France 🇫🇷 on your plane? xx
at 2:36 is that another airport ?
how many miles is that?
Done Le Touquet many a time. Always the first landing away overseas for our club. Then ventured to Channel Isle an further Ito Europe
What is that plane app called?
Is that all he knows is yep
Great channel! I definately subscribe! You and your son are realy cool.......Yep!
Very nice video Noel..bien fait👍
I did this trip with my dad back in the late 90s except we flew on to Cherbourg. Sadly he wasn't always pleasant company.
Thanks for the flight experience, enjoyed it very much. Disappointed that there were no in flight nibbles.
Great stuff, thanks. Be so much better without the background music. You dont need it, we all just want to hear the actual sound. thanks for the great vids though !
