I designed the makeup for the original Broadway production after the first makeup designer was let go in Seattle.... very proud of this particular show and it was a lot of fun to work on
Hi I know this is such a random comment but I’m a teaming makeup artist who is going to specialise I’m theatre makeup and wonder if you can give me advice on how to get jobs and the best way to contact companies? Thank you
@@hannahsinclair7584 Hi Hannah, I feel the best way is to approach theatre groups and drop off a physical resume listing your skills and achievements and how to contact you if they have further queations.and the best thing I ever did was move to NYC, thats where theatre(predominantly ) lives! also, get some hair/wig styling and prep under your belt. wishing you the best of luck.
I'm still waiting for the American Theatre Wing to locate their misplaced Tony nominations for Kerry and Matthew. He had to wait two more years for The Light in the Piazza and she had to wait five more years for Xanadu! (I still say she deserved a nod for Catch Me If You Can)
John Travolta played Tracy’s mom so much better in the movie version of this musical which starred Zac Effron as Link. John Travolta just had a better female voice and sang a lot better. Just saying. That’s my opinion, though, and I’m sticking to it.
BosieX I have no desire to see the original film. I prefer the musical. Edna Turnblad in the Broadway is so freakin’ annoying by the way. However I loved that Matthew Morrison played Link in the Original Broadway Cast. THAT was awesome. So...BOOM!
Well, you’re entitled to your opinion. But I definitely prefer Devine and Fierstein. I didn’t care for the Travolta version at all. Devine is a hard act to follow and I thought Fierstein did Devine proud. I don’t think Travolta was right for the role at all but I’m not sure if there is an actor right for the part at the moment. Or at least not any known actors. Travolta has got talent. Don’t get me wrong, he’s done well in other roles but in Hairspray he lacks the magic his predecessors brought to a very iconic, larger than life character. If you’ll forgive me, his performance was a throwaway. Plus, maybe I’m a snoot, but if anything stars Efron, I’m almost definitely going to right it off as crap. It’s not fair of me. It’s biased. But he’s always going to be the irritating Disney kid from the equally annoying High school Musical franchise. I realize the 2007 version got pretty good reviews, so clearly they did something right but I feel like the audiences polled, might have grown up on Highschool Musical and Glee, thereby lacking the knowledge or understanding of the original version of Hairspray. To quote Stephanie Zacharek of Salon.com, “Hairspray [2007] was reasonably entertaining. But do we really need to be entertained reasonably? Waters' original was a crazy sprawl that made perfect sense; this Hairspray toils needlessly to make sense of that craziness, and something gets lost in the translation." As far as the critics who loved it or at least liked it, they are entitled to their opinion but I beg to differ.
My left ear enjoyed this
Santana Soza SO ITS NOT MY EARBUDS

Rest In Peace Dick Latessa (1929-2016), the original Wilbur Turnblad. He was 73 years old when he originated this wonderful character on Broadway.
I like the stage version because Velma and Amber Come around and join in at the end. In the movie, Amber sort of does, but not Velma.
I don’t care for it because it feels forced.
Will schuster in his prime
OH MY GOSH! Matthew Morrison as Link?! That is just amazing and incredible.
Laura is so cute/funny here 😂👏🏻 and Kerry is an amazing singer!! She gives me chills
It`s not the best quality for a video, but IT'S BEAUTIFUL, best musical ever, I love it
The more I see of Harvey, the more I appreciate his Edna. There's much more there than I saw at first glance.
Who else forgot Kerry Butler was the OG Penny
NEVER!!!!

I love this.:-):-D:-) The Hairspray movie is great too,Wow.:-):-O:-D
I love this show so much, and I love Harvey, but I hate hearing him sing.
Thanks for sharing. Marissa is very cute but her vocals were flat and totally off-key in this one.
I agree.
mr👞 needs to calm down
You couldn’t hear Matthew or Cory
there is no sound
was that ellen at the begginning??
No hate but is no one gonna talk about the clear autotune at 2:21
Im kinda surprised the Tony Awards are autotuned
Why do you think it was auto tune? If they are using auto tune then why not use it for all the other solos that were off key?
Oh no. Tracy was super off-key.
Sorry but this Tracy's voice is so obnoxious. I know shes the original for the musical. But no thank you
They all kind of sound the same though
It's not her real Voice tho its the characters Voice they all sound like this
Keala Settle is so much better as Tracy.
flat vocail

Kylie Mattinson well, Harvey Fierstein won the Best Actor Tony Award for his performance, so your opinion is not a widely held one.
Kylie Mattinson you guys know that the musical is actually based on a movie, don't you?
Kylie Mattinson good Lord, you're ignorant AND stupid. Good for you.
