- The job of making decoy heads out of paper mache was entrusted to camouflage units, who were working in their small improvised workshops on the front lines.
Sculptors working in these workshops made a huge variety of decoy heads with great precision and resemblance to real human heads.

This can be done also with raising a helmet but the craftsmanship they put in was amazing

My dad's great grandfather brother fought in safr barek (1915, syrian fighting for ottoman empire) and 30 of the village were taken to there including him, he Is the only one that returned alive and when asked how did he survive he said that he put his hat on a stick and put it up, if it gets shot he doesnt peek but if it doesnt get shoot then he peaks

To save time and paper, sometimes they would chop the heads off of already dead soldiers, stick them onto sticks, and use those as dummies. You may be dead, but you still have to serve out your whole tour somehow, right?

Man it’s been more than two years since bf1 got released
The British had very well constructed regular tidy trenches, the Germans made sure their trenches were irregular and untidy much like destructive pattern warship paint.
Imagine going home after the war is over thinking about how many kills you got when in reality...
