@@RRD97 In the markets it's sold people don't want anything bigger, nor more complicated. That said, the car is overpriced by about 20% for what it is.
Loved camping in the Central Kalahari back in 1993, it seems the facilities have been upgraded, happy times in a Hilux, but never got round to making bread.
There's some beauty in going the distance with minimum resources and pushing yourself! It really is awesome!! It makes you trust in yourself and makes you value everything and everyone you have!
Well done to brave that alone. Thank you for being honest about how you feel after attempting certain things, often the looks and reality of how it feels are worlds apart.
.....who needs billions of $$,...if you can enjoy this simple life with a dependable tough off-roader like this...money cannot by this happiness,...what a lucky guy you are....
You are bang on the money bud! I want to see if I can do a budget build sometime and see how much you really need to have a classic overland vehicle 👌🏻
Not billions but still need around £50k for this car with this setup. Then some free time, also money. Money + Free time doesn't`always come together but depends what you do I suppose.
Good one ! You should have stuck the storm out in CKGR. One of the unique characteristics of the Kalahari is the build-up to and the actual thunder/dust/rain storm. Lay your hands on a book called 'Cry of the Kalahari' by Mark and Dehlia Owen - you were right there where they stayed for 7 years. Enjoy !
It was not an adventure, it was running from it. It is good to run away for a new start rather than trying to be a hero and getting lost in futile adventures. Good Job
There are many takeaways from this amazing video, but I have to say, the bread came out amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this with us, you were alone then; you're not alone now.
Because the wind was blowing so much he couldn’t smell me and my car, So I had a good 5-10minute of him standing and trying to figure out what I was! 😂 but he was a real beaut!
I recommend buying a Evaporating towel. It does not use up a big amount of water but it keeps you cool for a good amount of time. I live in the United States and they have them at Home Depot so I would think you can get them at places that are where are you by building materials
No such thing as bad weather - just bad planning when you go 4x4 👌🏻 Those dust storms are not so bad at all. The come and go. Next time you HAVE to stay.
correct decision you are out of that kalahari desert...the storm heavy rain is a nightmare...happy you are safe with the correct instinct...nice video...greetings from Sarawak Malaysian Borneo tropical rainforest..🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾
With a good car, a bit bravery and self reliance Botswana is doable for a Solo Trip, thanks again for the videography, it really brought out the Valness (parchness) of the environment, the beauty of the place
your instinctive decision to make a tactical withdrawal was right-on-the-money there Mr. Roam. Good choice of vehicle, underneath where the important stuff lives, its almost identical to a Land-Rover, Defender [the old-style, riveted aluminium body type] and that's no bad thing at all. I enjoyed your commentary. Have fun out there.
I wanted to be strong like you I want to explore world alone like you from the moment I got this anxiety issue and fear I was like broken I am not able to travel alone even for a mile.. I literally got tears watching your exploring vid hope I get strong as u and travel and explore the world without fear of death and loneliness. Awesome genuine vid with emotion to it! I have recently moved to Europe from NZ and have been contemplating buying a 4x4 and just driving to Mongolia/Georgia etc and where ever the road takes me, thanks for the Inspiration.
Wow you probably learn more about yourself and your limits in this type of situation. A unique experience shared with us. Thanks. National Geographic should use your services !
Phew i felt your fear and tension. Glad you decided to leave. You can always go back again because if it rained heavily and you got bogged it would be a mission getting out solo. Loved your fresh bread and noticed the baked beans on the fire. 👍 best meal. Awaiting anxiously for the next episode. Stay safe and enjoy the awesome trip through the pans. Ur videos has that rawness that i look for when going out in the nature.. Coz nature is beautiful but it demands respect else there is nothing that would save u. Its amazing how real ur videos are. And i love the jimny. Waiting for it to launch in India hopefully soon
Man I came here for Jimny, but I realized I found an awesome adventure channel! Your storytelling is great, and your voice is made for it! Keep up the good job!
Unfortunately we can't get this micro suv with the 4x4 setup in the USA 😭 Small engine such a perfect micro suv. We can even equip this little guy with the proper rear differential locking system 😔
I see this and remember good times in my 69 FJ40 in the early 80's. As soon as it got to the US it would go mad or be an old Tracker. Jimny would kick ads in Hawaii or Eastern WA!
Absolutely spectacular episode...cinematography, music, storytelling...all on point, plus just such an amazing area to begin with. I've had good luck refueling with a siphon but you're making me think it wouldn't hurt to keep a funnel packed as well. :-) Stellar work, can't wait for the next one!
Great video! Botswana is a wonderful place with it's own surprises from time to time! Your vehicle and it's setup made it a very nice overlander - well done. Looking forward to your next video on the Makgadikgadi pans!
Great decision to get out of there. Looking forward to the next video. It may have been in one of the video's but if you don't mind, can you tell me what the GVW of your setup is. Landed in Australia the manual leaves 340Kg and the Auto 325Kg for load including passengers. I am wondering if you would have transport authorities giving you a ticket if you were over or doesn't it matter in South Africa?
