My Axe - By Randy Bowles I like my action high, My strings brand new. I like an old guitar, That’s tried and true. Don’t need a lot of gizmos, Don’t need a lot of gear. Just a good guitar, Like this one here. My axe… If it could talk, What tales it would tell. All beat up, But it plays so well. When it plays the blues, You’ll feel a natual chill. It’s got the mojo To cure your ills. My axe… I could have a fancy axe shiny & fine. But it wouldn’t have the sound that -- Blows minds. It wouldn’t have the history, It wouldn’t have the charm. It feels so good, Nestled in my arms. My axe… I picked it up 20 years ago. It was sittin in the window of a Thrift store. It called my name Love at first sight. Try to take if from me, You’re in for a fight. My axe… It’s played hundreds of shows, Thousands of songs. On this old man’s lap, Where it belongs. When i pack it up, When the show is through, You know we gave it our all, When we played for you. My axe… When i’m laid in the ground, For eternity, There’s one kind favor, I would ask of thee: Give this old axe to a girl or a boy. Tell ‘em old randy wishes them joy. My axe, my good old axe. My axe, my vintage axe.
My 60+ year old, 80 buck guitar thanks you. It languished for years and years, waiting to be brought back to life. And I treasure it. (I actually wrote the first draft of this song before I acquired the instrument -- prescient, I reckon.) I've tried since 2021 to turn this thing into a real song. Nothing I came up with seemed worth sharing. But very recently, having finally figured out how to write a song, I pulled it out of my folder where I keep song fragments, and I finished it. Last night I recorded a new country blues song called Drop Anchor Blues, another one I started and put down. I started it in 2006 and finished it a couple of days ago. -- Now, it's one that I really like. -- After I got done recording it, I had a few minutes left before it was 10 pm, which is when they make rowdy boys like me get quiet in this senior bldg. So I grabbed the music to this one and gave it a shot. I don't consider it one of my A-listers, so I posted it here on my back channel. And for you to like it just made my day. And my guitar's day. I hope you like Drop Anchor Blues when I put it on my main channel.
My Axe - By Randy Bowles
I like my action high,
My strings brand new.
I like an old guitar,
That’s tried and true.
Don’t need a lot of gizmos,
Don’t need a lot of gear.
Just a good guitar,
Like this one here.
My axe…
If it could talk,
What tales it would tell.
All beat up,
But it plays so well.
When it plays the blues,
You’ll feel a natual chill.
It’s got the mojo
To cure your ills.
My axe…
I could have a fancy axe shiny & fine.
But it wouldn’t have the sound that --
Blows minds.
It wouldn’t have the history,
It wouldn’t have the charm.
It feels so good,
Nestled in my arms.
My axe…
I picked it up 20 years ago.
It was sittin in the window of a
Thrift store.
It called my name
Love at first sight.
Try to take if from me,
You’re in for a fight.
My axe…
It’s played hundreds of shows,
Thousands of songs.
On this old man’s lap,
Where it belongs.
When i pack it up,
When the show is through,
You know we gave it our all,
When we played for you.
My axe…
When i’m laid in the ground,
For eternity,
There’s one kind favor,
I would ask of thee:
Give this old axe to a girl or a boy.
Tell ‘em old randy wishes them joy.
My axe, my good old axe.
My axe, my vintage axe.
What a groove, top tune. Look like you had fun playing/recording this one, and I bet it didn’t take too many attempts either ✌🏻✌🏻
