Love all the analysis Dan! Definitely can tell you put a lot of time into it and it truly makes fantasy basketball so much more enjoyable! I love all the info and yet it’s fun that you can build teams in so many ways, watching videos like this really helps form a foundation to pull from. Just wanted to share my appreciation for what you’re doing! 💪🏀
Repost to this video since it’s more relevant to my question - So I’m in a keeper by round league and I went with Joker, Tatum, Trae with my top 3 picks… not a lot of value when there are teams keeping guys like Chet in the 9th, but I’ve got a strong base so we’re gonna try to draft our best around that. I traded away my 4th, so my first pick will be in the 5th and here are the top guys that I’m projecting to be around. That’s the context, H2H cat, 12 team league. Out of these guys, who do you take to compliment those other guys? Essentially I’m asking based on your knowledge of how the rest of the draft shakes out after round 5, am I adding rbds, assts, or scoring here? Cam Thomas, Nurkic, Capela, Herro, Giddey, Beal, Russell. Kuzma is interesting with both scoring and rbds, and Hartenstein as well. Also Porzingis maybe, but also maybe too much of a reach at 5. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Just got Giannis 7th in a 12 man category league. Drafted Scottie Barnes and Sengun in the 2nd nd 3rd round. Then went best available in the 4th and got Zion. Turned out to be a great decision cuz i was able to swap in a trade for Donovan Mitchell as my guard. Feeling really good bout this build
Hi Dan, so when is a good spot to draft Anthony Edwards? I have the 6th pick in a 10 team H2H 9 cat weekly league. If he falls to my pick in the 2nd is that a good spot to take him?
Yeah I'm fine with mid-2nd on him... still prefer to go another direction but he's fun and you can sacrifice 5-6 slots of value for a genuinely badass player
Hi i wanted your opinion on something. Im in a 10 team, 9 category league. Hypothetically if both Trae Young and Harden are available in 2nd round.....who would you choose between Young and Harden if your first pick was Luka, Shai, or Haliburton?
What would you suggest as a pairing 2nd/3rd round for Luka? I play in a 12 team competitive h2h league with DD instead of TO. So it really boosts big men in my opinion. I understand in the 2nd round it doesn’t matter much, I am doubting Harden falls to pick 22. How do you feel about Sengun in that spot?
What if deciding ok, if I pick Embiid at first round, if he plays 30 games I'm already cooked, maybe if the rest of my draft is good, I can place at the mid table, but why not approach it reversed, if he plays 60, why not pick Irving and just risk it all in, win it all or just accept defeat? Pick Irving and punt assists and maybe soft punt blocks.
That's the 'swing away' path I was mentioning. I did a show with Rhett Bauer on just that topic a couple weeks back. Check it out- it was a fun thought exercise!
Hi, Dan. Thanks for the content. Nitpicking here, but I don't think I would list Holmgren as a backup for a Wembanyama pairing. Not because it doesn't make sense - it does. But I can't see Holmgren falling to 23/24. Maybe in competitive leagues, managers will be better about reining in the hype, but he's currently going at 16 in both Yahoo and Fantrax and is one of only two centers being drafted in the second round (Sabonis is the other). I think the positional scarcity while all the elite guards are coming off the board are going to make it extremely rare for a Wembanyama team to have a chance at Holmgren. I can see a lot of managers taking a guard in the 7-12 range and wanting to grab an elite center, not waiting until it makes sense to get one in Sengun's tier.
Honestly, you can't go wrong with literally anyone on Jokic. That's why I love him the most. Who is left for you to choose from with Wemby? Is FVV there?
Please bro..if we do take edwards can you give us some pairing ideas? Lol i understand your theory but alot of ppl still going to draft him at 12 brother..
I think James Harden has value still, but he may be overvalued coming in the second round. Paul George is gone now and Kawhi will naturally miss games with injury. I am not convinced that 35 year old James Harden will be "the guy" and be able to carry like he has in the past. I expect further decline this year.
i dont get this logic at all. example: drafting a.d. = punt assists. he gets 3+ which is above avg for a big not named jokic/alp/joel. and you draft a pg round 2, how are you in a hole? maybe its the word choice, and roto-brain bias, but unless you are taking 2 destructive % guys 1and2, i dont get why anyone would then decide they are punting anything. by rounds 3/4, yeah, its taking shape. but youre talking about adjusting the whole draft after 1 pick, which i kookoo to me.
You can draft an all around team yes. But punting assist early for AD is a good strat to maximize his strengths more. Focusing on assist on 2nd Rd means drafting a guard that has higher TO, poor FG% (lesser stats on other ADs strengths e.g rbs blks) which contradicts your build around a player. Make sense?
Thanks for that @eazy7782 -- that's most of what I was going to say. But also, think about what your opponents are getting, and think about what type of guard makes it back to you at pick, say, 20. You're not getting a 10 assist guy there. So you're sitting on 8 max. 11 from your first 2 picks is losing to a LOT of teams...
Anti his fantasy game, not anti his real game. But guys don't typically go from 40 range to top-10 unless their role shifts substantially, and he was already the alpha on that team last year
@@OldManSquad yeah, meant just in fantasy of course. Yeah fair enough. I have him 30th per game (which I was surprised by), but think he gets a big durability bump because so many other players miss games in that range.
@@cookiefp Yeah I just try to shy away from players that NEED to play in 95% of their teams' games to get near their ADP. That's a big ask year in and year out

I second that
Thank you two! Haha, this video wasn't in my list to do, so it was a late add. I'm glad it still helped!
Enjoying the content this pre-season- keep it coming!

D'Lo or Beal probably. Just nice all around performers with decent upside that won't drag you down anywhere

That'll play!
I made it to the finals last year with AD and Kyrie on my team lol
Haha, AD playing 76 games was the big reason why
same and i won i also had Fox ja and demar

I might be team Harden, amazingly, but they're quite similar from a fantasy perspective
would u go ja with one of them b2b picks in 15 Category leagues? i’m picking 2nd taking either Wemby or jokic def want Jokic
I wouldn't... too much potential for a flop

Way too early on Sengun unless you're punting FT is my feeling
If you take Wemby first, who'd you take in the 3rd round since those are back/back picks.
Wemby/LaMelo/Dame... or Wemby/LaMelo/FVV... or Wemby/Dame/FVV or hell, throw in JJJ and never look back in blocks if you really wanted
What are your thoughts on AD/Scottie/LBJ
Not a bad grouping! Probably not winning FT any time soon, though...

Totally fair! He's not my top choice there, anyway! :)
How about trae, chet, fvv and turner, then target points guys you get good assist, free throws blocks, points, steals and threes?
Probably too late to come back in points, though I don't mind as the resident punt-points guy around these here parts
Who would you target for victor and joker in a 14 team h2h league. The options you suggested always get picked up in my mocks
Victor and Wemby?

@@Scar.Borough Hm... probably punt boards or assists would be my play
With the #1 pick is a Jokic/Dame/PG pretty decent? Sounds like you’re higher on Lamelo though
Than PG? Yeah I am, though I admit it’s a little scary
@@OldManSquad was thinking dame at 24, PG 25. Would Lamelo/Dame be a decent pairing with Jokic? Or Wemby even?
@@InnsuDontKim Probably a better fit with Wemby, honestly, and just punt FG. But really you can stick anyone with Jokic and it's awesome
i paired Tatum (11th pick) with Curry (14th). 9cat 12-team league.
Butler et Myles Turner 3rd and 4th.
Thoughts ?
Could maybe punt assist after those first 2 potentially
Ad,harden, fvv, jimmy butler you think good start
I love that for roto. Kinda terrifying for h2h
WHAT IS PUNTING??
Ignoring 1 category (punting free throws, for example) to make it simpler to excel at the others
