In '65 I saw him in Chenier with Tebaldi and Batisttianini. Just 2 weeks after I saw him in Fanciulla. Gets better!! Tosca...........Out of this world!!!

A masterful performance by Corelli, the greatest opera tenor of the 20th Century. We will never see another Opera Tenor with this kind of talent. His performances were unbelievable.
He was great, but i think Björling was the king of tenors.
Franco is himself the ultimate poet, in that he is so totally believable, creating reality out of the most impossible scenarios.

Thank you for posting. Corelli is fabulous as usual but the aria should be played at the right pitch. This is a half-tone too high and the voice loses warmth and presence because of it. The free software AUDACITY could fix it. Believe me, you'll hear a big difference.

Why does Corelli sound so different here? Just a bad night? His voice sounds significantly lighter than in most other recordings live or studio

Decades ago I had the whole opera of this on vinyl. A tone not quite matched by the later CD. I think it takes a voice such as his to make the most of the part. I would love to also have it with del Monaco but I don't think he sung in the role.
Del Monaco sang Chenier 10 times at the Met alone.

@@angr3819 Del Monaco's Discs are distorted and his LP London Records did not do him any justice because he sounded throttle as if singing out of a can of Coke. He's best listened to his live performances here on YT
