They do not pretend and we do not get mad when we hear real live sounds, including bumping. BTS are authentic and that is why we love them. When they allow the backing track to take over, they will pull the mic away or keep their mouths closed… that’s not lip syncing; they are transparent and do not use tricks. And I promise, we the audience do know what’s going on. Their fanbase is full of people who are also musicians and performers and appreciate just how talented and skilled BTS really are.
indeed we are I'm one of them I'm used to singing and playing in concerts so I know live when I hear it. I know al those little mic knocks, the giggles the spoke word or missed note.
Thank you. You saved me a Lot of typing. They stink at lip syncing. Yes, they use backing tracks, but they don't sing when the tracks are playing.
@@debhouckscraftycottage
They do sing when tracks are playing. The tracks back them up in case they have to skip a word or a line during hard choreo.
@@NanciBK Oh, right. My point was meant for Not Lip Syncing. Thanks for clarifying.
@@debhouckscraftycottage they really are so bad at lipsyncing lol
You will see two things at a BTS concert. If it is dance heavy they may not sing in a spot and we know it is a track or two, Yoongi has stopped to prove there is no track on occasion and then you don’t hear anything. Army knows the song so we know lyrics are missing. It is okay to acknowledge these performance issues. They generally don’t lip sync per se but show they aren’t singing ( Jungkook live Time Square ) there is a back track sometimes depending on the song with singing. They also have trained like you or Beyoncé running on treadmills while singing.
Also, no phones, a light stick called ARMY bomb. Each kpop group has their own. They are synchronized to the seat number and light to patterns, different colours etc. quite the light show!.
Yeah, as others have said, BTS doesn’t lip synch. That's not a knee-jerk defense, just a fact.
It’s something of a point of pride for them and they will deliberately leave random words out of lines or ask ARMY to sing lines randomly to show they are not. You are right, it’s industry standard and especially in these massive arena and stadium shows and on tours…but not for BTS. They train like professional athletes and sometimes go so hard that they collapse backstage and need oxygen. They use backing tracks to help them because they sing and dance simultaneously often, and we’re talking complex choreography, and because their production will often layer their voices. They are noted in the industry for doing both at the same time, singing and dancing. If the choreo prevents a certain section being sung, just physically, they won’t sing it and will let the backing track carry it, which we can both hear and see. But they sing while doing pretty intense choreography. They don’t try to hide if they are not singing a section, they make it clear and no apologies. Pretty much the only time you will see lip synching is in MVs, or during dance performance/dance practice videos - in the latter case they often don't even bother to lip synch. They just let the track play and they dance.
We do hear all those little things you mentioned, breathing and bumps and giggles and so forth. No ARMY would be unhappy hearing any of it no matter how much we pay for tickets. We love them just as they are, and we love them for their realness. Their genuineness and authenticity is a hallmark of the group.
Here is a link of them doing a live show for tv as an example of them doing hard choreo and singing live. The song is Fake Love

Here is a solo ballad by one member, Jimin, sung live, with hard choreography. You can see the parts he lets the backing track carry and he doesn't try to hide it. The song is Serendipity.
ua-cam.com/video/iUSGpz8MvZw/v-deo.html
Also, not phones, ARMY Bombs, bluetooth programmable light sticks that make the audience a part of the show. We buy them. No ARMY would go to a show without their Bomb, unless they plan to buy a new one there. It's an interactive part of the show.
Here is a clip from Big Hit about the Ver 3 ARMY Bombs.

It might be "industry standard" in the west, but that's not how BTS were trained. They literally wore oxygen limiting masks while working out/dancing to improve their lung capacity. Seokjin even "complained" on his episode of Yoongi's drinking talk show 'Suchwita', about how they were expected to sing LIVE and dance at the same time and he hated it but now he's glad they did.
He also talked about how he went swimming with his irl friends and could hold his breath underwater twice as long as them.
They are all so fit they even managed to excel in the military where they all (with the exception of Yoongi) are.
This isn't us (the fans) throwing a tantrum, we're doing it becasue a lot of people who just listen casually have no idea how hard these guys worked to sing and dance live at their concerts.
Go and watch ANY behind the scenes footage from any of their tours and see how hard they push themselves. Literally to breaking point!
These guys are not your typical western boy band, and I say that as someone who grew up with TakeThat, Boyzone, five etc. Two totally different worlds.
BTS's work ethic is on another level and they also respect their fans enough to not dumb down their performances. Yes there's a backing track but their mics are ON! There IS no lip syncing. And most of us would even go as far as to say they sound even better live.
As a side note, none of them can lip sync anyway. Namjoon is especially terrible at lip syncing. I laugh every time I watch the 'Mic Drop' video 🤭He's adorable.
They are not that young…there is a misconception that BTS members are teenagers. They started in 2013 and in that time they were around 17-20 years old average, but now some are in their 30s and others very close to their 30s
BTS don’t lip sync, Suga proved it many times. They even talk about why live singing is a must in episode 12 of Suchwita. Jin complained about how hard it was but is glad they persevered because their growth.
The vocal line are amazing! They can all sing the high notes but because their tones are different, even hitting the same high note they sound different! Jimin has an airy, angelic voice and Jin, with his silver voice, is strong and rock-style powerful. The two of them , for the most part, sing the really high notes in their songs.
But dude, there are times they are not singing (on purpose) but they don’t hide it - they make that obvious. They simply do not lip sync.
10:04 the imperfections are what help show the emotion. when they bump into each other on stage, they laugh it off, we laugh because it was funny. if their voice cracks with emotion during a song, it makes me cry even harder than i likely already was.
I was gonna say this; can’t speak for all army but the concerts are more about the experience than a perfect rendition of every song. That’s why we have recordings~ plus we know that they work so hard for every show to be great, but they’re only human, and mistakes happen, and that’s ok.
How else would we get to see great moments like a voice crack during a serious sad song, and jungkook trying not to laugh on the big screen. Love it.
One thing you must understand about ARMY (BTS fandom) is that ARMY is very supportive and caring about BTS members, so that they are quite forgiving and understanding if any of the members are sick or having laryngitis. Or if any of them gets out of breath during their singing due to heavy choreography. Also, ARMYs know the lyrics to the songs and are singing along. There have been concerts where a member will actually sit out or hold the microphone out for the audience to sing, rather than lip sync if their voice isn’t cooperating. Then ARMY and other members will compensate for their vocals. That is the kind of loving relationship they have with their fans. They have chosen to be authentic with their live vocals, which is another reason we appreciate them so much.💜 Keep watching their live performances and you will see this is true.
Literally these Guys work so hard and have been for over a decade. Rehearsing and rehearsing over and over again. If they break down and cry whilst singing the other will take over and it's usually JK. They are impeccable at what they do. Its a craft in a craft.
They have light sticks called ARMY bombs that change color with the show. Each group, if they make it long enough, has their own version. Coolest thing to be in a sea of light.
One of the things I love about BTS is they tend to not lip sync over the backing track, they just stop singing if they are doing a particularly hard dance or as others have stated, Suga and V will stop on purpose to show they are live. (I do realize that some shows don't want people to sing live) Check out their Grammy performance of Butter.
They have the best hand offs. Shows what 13 years of hard work and knowing your brothers will get you.

bts and army relation are different from other artist and fanbase
bts are free to breath when they're out of breath because of hard choreo,, they're free to stop singing just to laugh at each other and let the backing track play army's never get mad at that we dont treat them as just performers they are our friends/family they're free to fool around and play around the stage they dont need to always amaze us with the choreography and vocals(we know already how amazing they are btw) we also want them to enjoy not just us.. bts concert is not just an artist concert but a friends/family reunions /party/celebrations
💜💜💜
Just so you know, BTS never lip sync. They will have backtrack play sometime, but they don’t lip-sync.
all I'm going to say is while i was not at this exact concert, i did go to this tour, and watched videos from other stops i didn't go to, and they sounded different. they play around a lot on stage and one time, one of the members was laughing singing their part, and it was pretty obvious he was not lip syncing. I'm aware they use backing tracks sometimes, but it's pretty obvious when they do. as for parts being pre-recorded when they're sick, all i will say regarding that is we have seen multiple instances when one of the vocalists were sick, and you can immediately tell. at least two of the vocalists were crying in different situations where they had to stop singing and the ARMYs sang for them. when they can't sing, we sing for them. thank you for the reaction!💜
Bts concerts are definitely longer then 2 hours lmao its so worth it tho these guys put on a heck of a concert they do alot of things no artists do for sure.
They definitely have a backing track to layer the sound but they do not lip sync. They let it play through the hardest parts of choreo to catch their breath and you can hear the difference. There are also instances of some of them singing off tune cause their in-ear stopped working. Otherwise, they are mad perfectionists and pride themselves on showing the absolute best they can in their craft. 💜
of course it's hard that's why the train for it phsycially they sing on treadmills, they are super fit and have to maintain it. It's the reason they are doing so well in the Military each member in the military has pasted their basic training at the top of their intakes. eg at the Number 1 position they only one who did it as second was because he was in the same intake as his fellow band member and they took number 1 and number 2 position respectfully. These men have been doing this for years.
We all know they use a backing track. We know, because they don't try to fool you that they don't. We also know they sing as much as they can with the track list they choose for the show and if they feel that they are going to fail, they let the backing track take over. It is like with sponsored things they promote, they make it obvious they have a deal with a brand. It is like a gag at this point them being over the top about it.
BTS concert is not an Adele type of concert, and they carry a very heavy choreography for 75 percent of the concert. Their priority is to make the concert as a whole experience worth it to the crowd. If there are times they need to heavily relay on backing track so they can burn the stage on the next song they will do it and will not say they are sorry about it. They do what they have to do to give the crowd the best experience they can. Sometimes choreography clashes with what their voice can achieve, and by the end of the concert, they are so beat they go down from the stage and lie there on the lift beyond the stage. Fans seen behind the stage footage, we saw them cry their eyes out after concerts then their voices fail them too many times, and in rehearsal footage, we know they are giving all.
Yesss, and honestly, I don't think this is contradicting with the video... Why are people defending as if he'd been offensive? 🤔
In the korean idol music shows they don't call using a backing track lip syncing. There having your mic off and just mouthing the words is called lip syncing. You also have live recorded lip sync where they will play a live recording with breath during a performance where there is lots of dancing but with the mic off. As long as the microphone is on it is called live. Army is aware that with their rigorous dance routine a backing track just makes sense.Just to explain people's reaction .
@babbes4210 Yes! Totally agree. BTS doesn't lip sync for their live shows. They will not mouth the words if the mic is near their mouth. I will see them play the backing track while they sing a different part because they have 2 parts in the recording, and obviously can't sing both parts live.
And they do their shows live! They are proper artists. These lip sync and autotune reactions are so tiresome. We can hear them! They don't fool around. 💜
Neither in West. Back tracking and Lip Sync are not the same thing, this reactor made distinction of it too...
Yeah one thing about bts they never lip sync the onlt thing they will have is a backing track but in their concerts its them live all the time. But youll get to slowly get into more live performances and possibly go to a bts concert in 2025 when they come back lol. These guys are just breath taking in there concerts.
As everyone has said, BTS and MOST kpop groups use backing tracks because they layer and do so many group harmonies that it's especially hard to do on a song with dancing. BTS actually will not hold the mic near their mouths if they aren't singing, so it's possible to hear say Jungkook's voice in the background but he isn't singing because it's a support harmony or a heavy dancing part. So you can talk lip sync if you like but it really won't pertain to BTS. In fact, them always singing live is something heavily talked about by ARMY (their fandom's name) and detractors. Detractors like to pick a part where someone was pitchy or voice cracked. ARMY are very proud of their vocal flaws when they happen because we understand that lip syncing has become more common and as music lovers we rather hear those than "perfect" lip sync vocals.
Please check out Jin of BTS singing Epiphany and Astronaut with Coldplay. Jin and Coldplay wrote the song and Chris Martin invited him to come to Argentina to his concert to sing it with him before Jin entered millions. Jin left in Dec 2022. Now all members are in the military. We resume BTS in 2025. Thank you
They do not lip sync. Yes, they use backing tracks, but their mics are always hot. You may hear the backing track, but they are never pretending to sing along; they are either singing over the track or not at all.
♦️Most reactors, especially ‘pros’, aren’t used to most anyone actually singing live! Even in Kpop community many companies invest so much they don’t want to take chances! But this is one of the things that set BTS apart! Only a very few have the equal ability, especially while dancing! If he’s having a hard time believing that BTS sound even better live then studio version, when they aren’t even dancing as well, can’t wait til he watches a performance that has ever so strenuous choreography along with their flawless vocals! It’s called vigorous training, non stop practice & dedication, to develop core muscles, running in treadmills, & so much more, to also develop stamina & endurance to have the ability! I’ll be looking forward to was more reactions to BTS live performances. Also of course there are backtracks, but they’re mainly used while they’re doing the most strenuous parts of their choreography. Also at times for certain extra background vocals, that are also used in their studio versions. But none of which takes away from the fact that they always sing not only live, but give even more emotional, passionate, energetic performance then studio version! Also since most of the usually so meaningful, at times so inspirational lyrics are written by the members themselves, all the more reason for their so sincere heartfelt emotional, ever so passionate performances, since they believe everything they’re singing about! 👍❤️🔥😍🙏🔥
As far as i remember they did magic shop after performing like 3 other songs with the hardest choreographies that's why you can notice they took off the other mics and switched to hand mics 🎤
Jin, the singer who hit the high note at 3:13 where you paused has been named "Silver Voice" by the Grammys. If you want to hear their normal voices you can always look up songs they sing in livestreams. Jungkook is especially amazing because he has a huge range and he takes song requests on his livestreams at home or in his studio. You can also check out some of the member's Tiny Desk Concerts, BTS has one, RM and V (jazz style) I highly recommend watching all three. You also gotta watch their performances where they do heavy choreo so you can see how great they doing both while sounding so clear and not out of breath. Lastly, BTS always sound better live, they eat CDs at this point.

And how abt Jimin???
@@marilynbalingit2796 look these comment would get really boring if we had to mention every member every time. Support is not this. Support is daily streaming, buying music etc. Stuff to counteract the dirty practices of the industry that wipes out half of Jimins plays. Check out BORACITY WHY THE INDUSTRY IS TERRIFIED OF BTS. Jimins plays are specifically shown as a demonstration of how on one occasion they wiped out nearly 80% of his plays. That is where your focus needs to go. They don't lip synch. If there's a spot where the backing track takes over, they don't move their lips.
There is a concert they did where V lost his voice and army sang his part for him ot literally made him emotional and he was grateful but disnt expect it.
Yes! I was present at that concert and he was so sad he could not perform. We did our best to cover for him with our gibberish Korean 😅

We like to hear their breath on the microphone or bumping sounds, we like to hear them live and they know it. They do not lip sync and you can hear this type of sounds in many of their live performances. Thank you for your reaction
I think there's a difference in how you define lip syncing in this discussion. *Cambridge Dictionary defines it as: "A practice in which performers pretend to be singing a song, when in fact they are just moving their lips".* That's not what BTS does. True, they use a backing track, sometimes with vocals on it, sometimes without vocals, but they always sing live over it. Tbh you're the only one I've ever heard use the term lip syncing about this method, including a bunch of industry teachers and experts, so I can't help but wonder if it's your understanding of lip syncing that's off?
(Just to clarify since English isn't my first language - I truly do not mean it in a derogatory way but purely as a serious consideration. 🤔🤷♀️)
💜😉👍💜
one of my fave BTS songs. your praises on Jin 5:30 are so true. even other voice coaches, musical producers and directors have said the same things. Jin did work so hard which made him to be a very good and technique driven vocal. It made him to easily shift from different vocal techniques - head, chest, mix, falsetto, belt.
they have a backing track in some songs and performances depending on the vibe, the stage, the arena, etc. - that's true
however, they either sing live with the backing track or don't sing it at all, letting the backing track take over. lip syncing is not common in bts concerts, they don't take it as a fair game. it only ever happened at specific tv shows that require it without any other choice
just letting you know since we have seen not even hours, but days of backstage footage, backstage interviews, commentary they release every year :)
They have a backing track in every live performance I’ve heard and it’s fine…..but they do it with EVERY live performance.
@jessicathomas9935 if by life performance you only mean concerts then I can see your point. however other than concerts there are many other performances that don't require it
@@jessicathomas9935 they definitely do not have backing tracks in every live performance. They have many intimate performances that are just them and a live band.
The vocalists have spoken to us before about how the rappers in the group insisted from the early days that they must always sing live. They said it was hard but they did it. When they dance hard choreo they choose when to sing/dance together & when to only dance due to the need for different breathing techniques. As everyone has said having a backing track is different to lip syncing which is pretending to sing… but BTS never pretend. They either sing or they don’t.
Yes they have back track often but they don't shy away from it or try to hide it, they just don't sing sometimes (for various reason : dance moves, catching breath etc) and let the back track play without lip singing. You can be sure that when their lips are moving they are singing, even if sometimes they back track may override their singing.
They are really really great when they actually have a live band like in their Busan concert and Suga's Agust D tour. Lip syncing is probably not the right word. The incredible thing is they will use every tool the industry has to enhance their performance including autotune not to tune their pitch but as an effect like Jimin did in Set me Free part 2 from his solo album. Obviously they have used backing tracks for years in their concerts and so too for their advantage. I always loved how they would end their Speak Yourself tour concerts with Mikrokosmos and even after the song the backing track would keep going with the music while they were saying good bye it just was so perfect.
ARMY’S pay whatever they have too to see BTS❣️ I paid $1800 for my ticket in LA and I was on the second tier❣️ A floor seat was about $8k…. But if I had it, I would have paid it❣️ THEIR CONCERTS ARE THE BEST IVE EVER SEEN❣️
I’m 64 years old and have been to 100’s of concerts of all genres but NO ONE has come close to them❣️❣️❣️ I never saw MJ or Whitney though 😢😢😢
Mmh... I don't think this helps. Sounds like scalper prices. You can get BTS tickets for 75 - if you can get a ticket at all. Because we love them and, yes, we'll turn up. No bots in the house. I don't think feeding into the toxic industry and presenting A.R.M.Y as nutty money bags is the right thing to do. We are clever, compassionate and loyal. Not a fandom that should be milked. But clearly, you would be willing to pay up. That money is not going to BTS. I hope you know that. 💜
@@Sherluck93 I have been to two BTS concerts and my tickets were purchased as a BTS fan club member❣️ The first ticket cost so much because I was late on purchasing it and the second concert cost me $187 because I got in early buying❣️ Yes, you can get a ticket for $75 or less but you are at the top of the stands and not close at all❣️ I don’t know about other ARMY’S but the ticket price is irrelevant when it comes to BTS❣️BTS ARE THE BEST PERFORMER I HAVE EVER SEEN❣️AGAIN….I am 64 years old and have been to 100’s of concerts from a range of genres so I am stating a fact not guessing or assuming❣️Whatever the price, YOU WILL GET YOUR MONEY’S WORTH💜💜💜💜
@@Sherluck93 yeah exactly. BTS keeps their tickets low even though they could charge a ton. If you’re paying more than $400 for floor seats or $65 for nosebleeds, it’s because you bought from a scalper.
This song helped me through my issues with personal life stuff this song comforted me.
I love the members when the audience sings so loudly it brings them such joy!
Have a backing track is pretty standard today for many reasons, to give adlibs, or to show voice doubling, etc... but especially this can be found with groups who have a ton or choreo and are very active and for really long shows, to help fill in pwrts now and again, usually always none main parts though, etc..., etc...
But what is most always different with BTS, is you can usually always hear their real voices over the backing track. It is the fact that the backing track is low enough and their microphones are loud enough. And if I can hear them live, even along with the backing track, that clearly shows that it is being sung live, even if there is a backing track. So I am all good with that, and I love to see how much BTS truly does continue to sing strongly over the backing tracks, showing us their true live voices, even when performing more difficult choreo.
And when they stop to take a breath or let the backing track play for a moment to interact or to dance, doesn't bother me at all, in fact it is pretty standard practice, period, but I also lnow they will jump right back in quickly ans take over with their live vocals again. There is a clear difference when a performer has the backing track up loud and you can barely , if at all hear the actual artists voice over it.
This is most always not the case for BTS. Which the first example is more of what real lip syncing is. Even though that is not fully what lip syncing is either by definition, which is " moving the lips silently while synchronizing with a pre-recorded track. But since that is not what BTS does, clearly, than it is wrong even in general, but also technically, to say they are lip syncing. If I can hear their live voices clearly, either with a backing track or without, than it is definitely them singing live, literally.
We actually don't mind the extra sounds and stuff being imperfect. One of the members had a world tour and got so sick his throat was wrecked. He made a drink concoction to try to soothe his throat on stage and openly took breaks to let the crowd help him sing parts but he and still went out and rapped/sang live. It was imperfect, he struggled with some songs in ways he usually didn't and overall put his vocals through the ringer but he knows that live singing is the BTS calling card and even solo he still refused to lipsync. We weren't upset and he trusted that we wouldn't be. All of this to say that we don't put any expectation on them to have perfect shows. If they fall, if they get injured mid-show, if they mess up the routine, if they get too sick to sing perfectly, if someone has to go to the hospital in the middle of a performance, things have happened and they know we'd be understanding.
Thank you for your reaction✨
jimin and jin is Beautiful Voice💜 rm suga jhope v Jungkook 👍bts 👍
everyone has a nice voice
I always get the chills with this song. It’s one of my favourites
I loved your assessment of Jin's voice. He had to learn everything after he was cast for his good looks alone but as you say he worked hard and his hard work paid off big time. We know they use backing tracks but to support rather to replace. They will stop singing occasionally so we know the difference. If they have problems due to poor health then another member will take over or ARMY will step in. The, 'So show me' call and response is iconic. Their breath control is incredible. It's not until they finish a routine that they relax and breath heavily. Watch them singing Dionysus to see that. I hope you took note of the words of this song which is for ARMYs. Jungkook wrote most of it and there is a very cute sketch based on it that they did in the Fifth Muster (debut birthday celebration event).
Jin is the best with head voice and falsetto❤Well done for recognising his talent. They don’t lip sync. They put their mics away and let the backing track take over. They don’t pretend unlike other groups. Don’t pick on them.
They always sing live and often have a live band....it is not phones...it is the fan light" ARMY bomb"
Yes BTS absolutely do use backing tracks and they let it play when they are doing tough choreo, but what I have noticed is that when they are letting the backing track play, they aren't pretending to sing, they don't even put the mics to their mouths at those times. Suga often doesn't sing one or two of his lines and lets the backing track play so the audience (and haters) can see the massive difference. The only time I see them truly pretending to sing when it is actually a track is during MVs (like all artists). They also use autotune (which some people lose their mind at the suggestion), but they use it as an effect on their voice, not because they require autotune. You talked about them singing so well in unison. Although the 4 vocalists have dramatically different voices, I think they have learned to adjust to each others sounds for seamless handoffs from one to another. Thank you for reacting.
Yes, they use backing tracks when they’re dancing because they go hard! Still, they sing!
I appreciate your little nugget of information. I learned some things I didn't before, and that's always good. But even with your 20 years of experience, you can also learn some new things as well. For instance, BTS is a group that is NOT Industry Standard, especially WESTERN Industry Standard. The training that their vocalists have gone through because they prioritize live vocals even while doing intense choreo, will astound you. That's not to say that they don't use backing tracks. Of course they do. They just don't fake it and lip-sync.
I’m not a reaction complainer, but one thing BTS is adamant about is never lip syncing. They do stop to show this when they sing live to demonstrate this and stop lip syncing out of the conversation. So, you’re wrong on that. Not in general probably but about this group. This is an undisputed fact, not me being defensive. And, yes… you can expect quite a lot of ‘feedback’ on that.
I know there are shows where lip syncing is required by the organisers. BTS, like most performers, do use a backing track but you can definitely tell when they are singing live. They are honest in not putting the mics up when they aren't actually singing so you can still hear the backing track but need a breather due to the physical demands of their performances. It is something I appreciate about them.
The lights are actually light sticks, (Army bombs) not their phones. It is very common with groups from Korea and other parts of Asia. The light sticks can often be synced by Bluetooth at the venue level so the lights add to the show.
Their voices are so perfect that some people think it's lip synching but the truth is they can't accept that it's really live. Well I love your reaction and that's your honest reaction. They using backing track but not lip synching. Also try to react to their tiny desk home concert.
Thanks for reacting! This song is very special to me.
I know you’ve gotten many comments about this already, but it’s important for us to explain and educate. I think we are having a misunderstanding. BTS have always been open and honest with us about their shows, how they prepare, and how they perform. We aren’t delusional or misinformed when we say that BTS do not lip sync. They never have. There are multitudes of things they are talented and capable of doing, and very few that they are not. Lip syncing is on the short list of things they can’t do. It’s honestly a long running joke amongst ARMY. They absolutely use backing tracks and no one should ever say otherwise. They are usually on stage for almost 3 hours and many songs are heavily choreographed. There will be pieces and parts where they let the backing track take over and focus on their choreography. That’s usually when ARMY picks up the mantle and sings along even louder or does the fan chant. The rappers for the most part will always rap live, unless it’s a one off ad lib or something that plays, but even then the other members usually say or sing it live with the track bc they work so seamlessly together without ever stepping on each other’s toes. The vocal line will sometimes sing along with a backing track, but they will never lip sync along to the track. They never pretend they are singing when they aren’t. They simply stop moving their mouths when the track takes over. You can see it happen in many performances. I’ve seen them live in concert 8 times along with many livestreams of their concerts. They have never once used lip syncing. I have definitely seen them use a backing track to aid and assist during heavy choreo and they are never moving their mouths to pretend they are singing along.
Regarding the mic sounds like feedback, bumping, clothes rustling, etc, they let that happen. They often have bedazzled shirts and you can hear the gems rustling against their headset mics. You can hear their breathing as well. They never hide that from us. I think that’s the key part you’re missing in this discussion, and to no fault of your own. You aren’t an ARMY that has spent hours and hours consuming their content from their entire career. You wouldn’t know that they put an emphasis on always performing live before they ever debuted, or that they used to be so detail oriented in their dance practices that they would go frame by frame to pick out differences until all seven were in perfect synchronization. They used to practice with a shoelace untied just to see what that situation would be like if it ever happened and how to overcome it. There have been several on stage mishaps, illnesses, and injuries. They cover for each other sometimes, or they let a track play for a missing member. They always keep it real with us. That’s the other key point. BTS and ARMY have a relationship that is built on trust, honesty, and vulnerability. None of us would be upset if we hear them heavily breathing into their microphone no matter how much we paid for the ticket. Being in the same room with them is a gift and an honor. We trust that they will give it their all, imperfections and all, and they trust that we will stick by their side and support them, imperfections and all. We are in this together and that’s the best part. Sorry for the super long comment. It just felt necessary to say and try to convey why we are saying what we are. We know you understand the industry and its practices, but please understand that we know BTS and how they perform. 💜
A backing track and lip synching are two very different things. ARMY definitely go to hear real live singing with all its flaws.
BTS ARMY for 7 yrs here. The backing track is there. We all know it. However, they don't rely on it. It helps keep them all on track, etc. Especially if someone needs an extra second for an extra breath during their part. Our boys are constantly moving and can get winded. No shame in their game - they are singing right on top of the track and we can hear their live voice instead of the track.
dont forget, that there is difference in the ambient sound when you watch a concert recorded or live-live. dont be confused by it. for recorded live performance they filter all noices most of the time
Thank you for watching to the end . I adore how ARMY finishes the song with them gone from the stage. So special. One of my most favorite live performances.
You should check out their Tiny desk performance done during the pandemic time to hear their live voice. Also highly recommend their BTS Room live 2021 Festa video where they sing medley of their songs of different genre. Super impressive to watch.
I like how they use the track, more to support and round out their voices. They also have concerts where they have a live band with them that you might want to check out. :)
I really enjoy your discussions about the mic and sound system aspects in a huge arena like this. Thank you ❤
They put softer parts into their Stadium concerts where they won't be dancing and singing where the Rapper will only be on stage or the Vocalist only or a member will do a solo. They do that to give themselves a 'rest break and a wardrobe change break. They know what they are doing.
this was in Japan and there it is prohibited to do playblack or lip sync so it is totally live.
People don't get you 😅 Yes BTS don't lip sync, you saw that and made it clear, but they do use back track, yes I know, sadly many ARMYs think this is belittling them, when is just professional.
Your comment about the BIG PICTURE is so on point too, BTS knows how to pace themselves to carry an exhausting show!! They know when to sing, when to let the back track do the job (and they don't hide it or pretend to sing those parts, you can clearly see it, because at the end of the day, they are doing it live), when to burn the energy through a song that requires it, or to balance for a member that has to sing much more then the other..
Overall, I loved your reaction!!
Not sure how things work....I just know that they sound so so beautiful...all are so very talented and so so handsome! Their chemistry and stage presence is on another leveI...I commend them for their excellence. ❤
The backing track is necessary due to the intense choreography, if it is understood that the backing track is a time where the artist does not sing and and behind it is the pre-recorded music by the same artist. It is different from the lip movement that is a scam to the public and that BTS does not do, much less in this presentation, which is in Japan where a.
Just so you know Army will protect BTS. It's because we've known them for years. They rely on backing tracks to keep their voice from going out. But they do not ever put a mic to their mouth and pretend to sing. They use it as a dub over on their vocals and when they aren't singing in full part. They clearly take the mic from their mouth. They make no secret to it at all. Lots of haters used to say they lip sync but suga proved them wrong by having someone shut off the backing track at a surprised time. Nobody knew when it would happen. And guess what happened they were still singing. Yes everyone in the industry does it and there is a reason for backing tracks not only for the dub sounds but to give their voice a rest since they sing for 3 hours a concert. But again I'll say you won't see them with the mic up to their lips and not singing. I've seen tons of professional react to BTS and all has been so good. They even said they weren't lip syncing. Thank you for your reaction. Everyone has a right to opinions and I'm just saying Army is very protective lol. They can be a bit forceful and forgetting that everyone has an opinion they have a right to. Army can be the best fan base but I've seen some of the cruel ones. BTS wouldn't never approve of their behavior but it doesn't stop them so if they are that way to you I am sorry. True Army will help and guide you if your genuine. But again understand ARMY has seen it all and what BTS has gone through with tons of haters. They been through it all. Alot of KPOP does but nobody has had it worse then BTS. again thanks for you reaction.
But you don’t need to… I never attacked them… they can tell you whatever they want… I never said they weren’t talented or capable.
BTS most always have some kind of backtrack even when there is a live band etc...but they usually having it playing very low in the background and they sing live.....when they need to have a break to breathe etc they turn up the backing track a bit...but BTS don't usually pretend they are singing during these parts...they are fine and ARMY are fine using backing tracks because it is to make their dancing performance better. It is a trade off. Also, since a member can't sing both the main vocal and do the ad libs at the same time, the backing tracks usually are used for those instances as well...ARMY doesn't get upset or offended by it....I think the main thing ARMY gets upset about is when someone says BTS lip syncs infering that they are pretending to be singing live when they aren't....I have seen BTS in concert 10 times and have watched pretty much everything they have made public....I have been an ARMY since 2014 and so these are my observations and opinions of course but like I said above, BTS usually don't move their lips like they are singing if they aren't. Thanks for the reaction!
Enjoy your reactions to BTS & appreciate that you really watch & listen. So many reactors talk throughout the video or are distracted. Thank you so much.
he doesnt want to admit that they sing live its okay they sound so good of course you would think that
Jimin voice 👌
Jin was really good.🎉🎉🎉🎉
You made a long a good points. Add to that I've thought about: the amount of traveling by plane (which is one of the most exhausting for them - not just the jetlag, but the dry air, air con etc. too), and the amount of dancing/choreo they do during a show. It's like all the vocal performance while running a marathon. And their choreo goes hard. I feel like the use the backtrack more during dance tracks, and might use it slightly during standing still songs for probably comfort (if that's what they are used to, the other reasons you mentioned, feeling less pressure of hitting a note when they're out of breath) and continuity (so their vocal deliveries sound more the same). We've seen how they hav oxygen masks when they get off stage because they're so out of breathe performing the dance tracks back to back to back. And their concerts are often more like 2,5-3 hours. Even one that was 3,5h. I guess I don't mind that they use it slightly, because A) I can still hear their vocals, and b) if that's how they can continue performing so often. And they're the type of artist where it's not only the vocals they perform - it's more of a complete, holistic, allround experiences.
Performing this good is really difficult like you said that's why you believe they lip sync. I understand this is an "industry standard" but BTS has proven thousands of times that they are different from standards. THEY set the standard. They are the real standard.
They don't lip sync and if they make mistakes we, ARMYs, will NEVER get mad even if we pay thousands of dollars for that front seat or even the back seat(any seat is worth the money fr)😂💜We know missing lyrics in between that allows them to breathe through hard dance performances, the intentional omission of parts to PROVE to outsiders that they are NOT lip syncing.
But since you may not know all of these things that only ARMYs know, it's okay to be ignorant once. But please watch more of their videos to know the difference between BTS and other artists and please acknowledge the efforts that they put to perfect themselves this much that others believe they are as good as the original track🤗They go through harsh training and practice sessions like my other fellow ARMYs mentioned in the comments💜💜. (We often joke that they eat CDs at breakfast by the way😂)
This is not in any way to offend or hate you. Just analyse more of their performance before coming to such conclusions. Thank you!
As always, borahae everyone💜💜
yes they do have backing tracks especially when they are dancing alot but you can still hear them sing behind it. you can also tell when people are singing even if the backing is to loud to pick it up. they did more of that in the stadium also because of the sound echoing but later on when they are ediding it out they removed most of the backing sound. also audience noise so you can hear their vocals more clearly. but yes doing certain parts of the song they don´t sing just dance because of what you said. but they never pretend to sing (libsync) they just stop singing.
we know this because we have seen all the behind the scene videos of them also when they did a bad performance. they review themself on camera and practise so much running on treadmills and is using a mask to control breathing.
BTS are well known for using backing tracks to support their vocals during challenging choreos, and let them take a breather during solos, harmonize with themselves etc.
They absolutely suck at lip synch, to the point where it's usually really obvious the few times it IS used for some reason. 😆
When they DO have issues with their vocals, they'll sometimes ask Jungkook (their main vocalist) to sing with them, for example.
They'll ad adlibs, stop singing and let the silence ring out, or very obviously take the mic away from their mouths when they rely on the backing track while they catch their breath. :)
They also distribute the song lines so they each only sing for a short stretch before having a "break", and will sprinkle solo or unit (rap-unit, vocal unit) throughout their performances so the other members can have a short break.
Backing tracks are almost guaranteed in kpop. BTS uses them (obviously). Most kpop idols/groups use them. The only time there isn't a backing track is typically for ballads, and then the idols/groups are usually stood in a fixed position so they can dedicate their focus/energy to singing. Even then there's audio magic with filters or autotune at play, but for artists like BTS we've heard them sing a cappella and know their raw voices are amazing with or without filters.
BTS will often not bother lipsyncing and let the backing track take over without mouthing the words. They've done this several times to make a point that they are indeed performing live "for the most part". They also do it a lot in their solo work. The impression I get from such moments is that unlike so many other groups (4th gen, not so much their peers or previous generations), it's not a secret that they're using a backing track and it'd be silly to mouth words if they're not actually singing them. So they lower the mic entirely or don't bother mouthing the words. Not always. But often enough that it's clear they've planned ahead of time when they will sing live and when they'll let the backing track do all the work, and because their live vocals are so far forward in the mix there's no hiding the fact they've not live anymore so why pretend otherwise.
you're absolutely right, there's always a backing track, but BTS NEVER lip sync lol. they have trained for over 10 years like you , (also running on tread mills) and can absolutely do it without lip syncing
Thank you for your reactions David. 😊 Did you know that BTS practice their vocals while wearing face mask or while rhnning in threadmil. I know it's not connected to the video, but I just want to share this😊 hehehe (correct me if I'm wrong ARMYs)
Those are Stadium concerts not arena concerts and yes we hear everything. They'll often put in adlib's in as well as not sing bits. Suga has a naughtie habit when Rapping of suddenly holding his mic down just standing there and you hear nothing just to prove he's rapping live, it's so funny watching that it's a him putting his 2 fingers up at the those who've accused them of lip sinking. I can remember Jin not singing one of his lines because he clearly run out of breath from dancing and but you could hear his breath in his mic as he tried to gulp in air to sing the next phrase which came out but not at it's usual strength and kind of weavered a tiny bit.
Also urge you to to react to: ❣️BTS[방탄소년단] - MEDLEY LIVE CONCERT- DOPE + GO GO + BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS + FIRE from the BTS Love Yourself World Tour in Japan ua-cam.com/video/uC_UwNj8SB8/v-deo.html Even has Eng Subs on screen. BTS performs a breathtakingly spectacular totally LIT over 12 min nonstop medley of some of their most popular, songs: Dope; Go Go; Blood Sweat & Tears; Boy in Luv; & Fire; & from one of their many sold out concerts this time in a dome holding around 60k in Japan, where they speak to audience & sing most of their songs in Japanese as well. This was during their 2018 to beginning of 2019 which was the when they performed in Japan, during BTS Love Yourself Tour. Their concerts usually go for around 2 1/2 hrs without hardly a break, except when they go dry off, breath some oxygen, change outfits, & come up for air. 👍❤️🔥😍🔥🔥
They do have a lot of back tracking but one big reason is they don’t use backup singers and they have SO many layers. Example JK, the one that started the song with so show me, in a song in just a few measures has four to five different layers. He does harmonies and adlibs as do others so without backups back tracks are required
I hope no BTS fan have a problem with Live singing or not. They mostly sing live, but sometimes not on the songs with choreography... not only you can Cleary hear the live voice, but also they don't pretend, they don't put the microphone to the mouth if they don't sing it...
umm they actually don't lipsync. Just because it sounds perfect, doesn't mean its not real lmao. BTS only uses backing tracks when they do heavy choreo which makes sense
Those arent phones they are lightsticks known as Army bombs... They are all synced up with the music and their seat to change colors.
All artists use a backing track in a concert venue this large. They sing LIVE over it. BTS does this just like others.
When people hear the words lip sync they are thinking of Milli Vanilli who didnt sing a note they just mouthed over someone else singing. Lip syncing today or using live auto tune is totally different.
Thank you for your reaction!! ARMY (their fan base) loves seeing new people discover BTS. 💜 I hope you react to more of their live shows; they never disappoint. And yes, they admit to using backing tracks, but they never lip sync (as in no live singing at all). You can tell when they stop singing because they’re out of breath from dancing (you should react to one where they’re dancing, it’s quite impressive) or they want the fans to sing. You can hear the backing track but it’s faint. And we do hear them mess up from time to time! Sometimes it’s funny because they make fun of themselves, but there is behind the scenes footage of some of them crying because their voice cracked. 🥺 They are very serious artists. May I recommend a live version of Dope, Fire, or Idol? Those are very high energy, intense choreography, and singing at the same time. Enjoy!
Actually, here’s a performance with all of them combined! 🤣 Their stamina is insane. ua-cam.com/video/illd6N3socs/v-deo.htmlsi=ys9XAZTRc2pTHk6W
SON LOS MEJORES, CANTO, BAILE, LO TIENEN TODO, SUPER TALENTODOS MIS CHICOS DE BTS, LOS EXTRAÑO Y AQUI ESTAREMOS ESPERANDOLOS HASTA EL 2025
It’s like BTS can never win and have to sing bad on purpose to get people to believe they’re singing live 😂 having a backing track doesn’t mean they’re lip syncing. They’re never mouthing to words they’re not singing. If they’re not singing their mic is no where near their mouth.
I appreciate that you are listening to BTS and reacting to their performances, but I wish you would also consider about of other things they are doing in their performances besides just talking about lip syncing, which a lot of performers do, but not BTS. They do use backing tracks, but their microphones are always on. Maybe I would subscribe to your channel if you would talk about their meaningful lyrics, amazing dance moves, stage presence, and things other than spending the majority of your time talking about only one aspect of their performance. I do hope that you will continue to react to more BTS performances and content.
Yes they do use backing tracks instead of just lip syncing. They use backing tracks most times with playback and with live band, you rarely hear backing tracks.
This is a very special song for ARMY 💜
BTS never Lip Sync, they may have backing track when they have to dance hard. Please react to "Film Out" live by BTS. Borahae! 💜
BTS DOES NOT lip sync!
You need to watch their tiny desk concert, if you have not already. :)
Yes he is my man jin ..he is soo god at chest voice
Thank you so much for your expertise and background information really fascinating. BTS are some of the best stadium performers I have ever seen but they are humans, very beautiful humans.
Funny how Americans can’t reconcile great singing with hard work. BTS aren’t lazy, they are driven and have perfected their craft for 14 years.
Where did I say that? At what point in this video did I say they were lazy? You’re lazy for not listening. Shut your mouth, open your ears and maybe you’ll learn something.
jimin vocals 🔥
I would like to request you to react to live performances at grammy or any other award shows such as BBMAs or AMAs.. You will definitely love it.. I would love if you react to more of their live performances.. They will blow your mind..😊
Thank you so much for explaining that issue of pitch and ear monitor. What I would love to hear from you is your opinion of “vocal cord fry”. Someone said that due to lack of consistent technical training and the push for Jimin to sing in a much higher range than his normal range, he might have fried his chord. Is this true do you think?
Those aren't phones, they're ARMY bombs.
