Wow I’m so glad these types of stories are starting to surface. Up till I was 26-27, I thought I was the only one in these shoes as I don’t know anyone else personally who doesn’t have brothers. ❤️❤️❤️ girl power.
Be happy you have 8 sisters! We live in America now that sons or daughter doesn’t matter much anymore. Yes, it’ll be nice to have both brother and sister but you have a lot of sisters so that makes up for not having a brother.
I have two sisters and five brothers, none of my brothers do much of anything 😒... hmong ppl put to much faith in hmong sons! This tradition has to stop!

This is a bittersweet story and I’m glad to hear that he loved his daughters regardless.
But....the sons are not always on good terms with the parents too so Hmong in general needs to let go of some of these traditions about sons are everything.
We have 4 sons but at the end of the day, it’s our daughters who takes care of us. From doctors appointment to groceries run to cooking and cleaning and washing our clothes. Son or daughter...one should be blessed in this lifetime to even have children.
Boys or Girls its a blessing. At least they are able to have children, no complaints should made.

My dad used to think like this guy. He only have 2 boys and 7 girls. Now my dad says its because god knows that he will need his daughters and that only his daughters will care and love him, but my dad didnt see the signs that god have given him. God blessed him with 7 daughters. I can say that We 7 daughter loves my parents dearly.

People keep complaining about how much the funeral was but don’t even think about how much it’s cost for our parents to raise and love us. Which is priceless and a amount we would never be able to repay back. Same as what it will be for our children

I have 4 girls & 1 boy.
I am blessed with all my children, my eldest are 18mths apart, then I had my miracle son 10yrs later....I loved my son so much I tried for another son ....but 7yrs later I was gifted with twin girls naturally and miraculously.
I love all my children equally...no one is a favourite...My son is not given any privileges just cos he is a boy...my son is domesticated, educated & can cook basic at 15yrs.
My children value life and live a simple rule....Respect Others - treat others the way you want to be treated. Love others so you are loved in return and Never Ever look down on others.

It's better to have a full house of loving daughters then a destructive house with brothers and sisters. I am admire what you ladies accomplished for your parents and sticking together thru it all. Some brothers and sisters don't even looked at each others after the death of their parents due to greed.

This story is almost like my family’s except my dad didn’t cheat and didn’t marry a niam yau and we have two brothers but they passed away. My dad said the same words to us right before he passed away, for us to love each other. This makes me really miss my dad.

I swear I had lashes on this morning. After balling like a crazy person I don't know where my lashes went. What hurts the most for me is that in my heart I know my value is never greater than my brothers. I am sad that your dad have so much live for all 9 of his daughters. Sister, having sisters is better than having no brother because having brother, sometimes they end up not loving you or your parents just like my brothers. Your parents, you, and your sisters should not feel bad for not having brothers or sons. We are living in America now, daughters or sons, either one they can do the same, but more likely the daughter will love and care more about you than the son.

Another typical hmoob story blaming the wife when it’s him. Many heart aches throughout their lives for him to finally realized that even through marriage when they are not your own blood the love is different. In the end he did accept that his daughters are his blessings.

I can relate to this story. I came from a family with 6 daughters and 1 sister passed away. No brother and my parents are very sad. Sad that the dad wasted away most of his life trying to have a son. His wife and kids had to suffer putting up with his desires to fool around while not fulfilling his role as a father to his kids and a loving husband to his wife. I hope that today people will be simply thankful to bare a child. Truth is, no one knows how a child will grow up to be like. I know of family who love their son over their daughters yet in the end, the son is useless and it’s the daughters who does everything for the parents.

Having only sons or only daughters should be irrevant especially here in the US. Love is should be unconditional, love while you still can. Girls are just as equally important as boys. Our mentality and cultural process should be change to be more inclusive.

Sister, don't feel sad about not having brothers and sister in laws. If you have them and they only hurt you, you'll be more saddened.
She shouldn't feel sad because it didn't happen but having brothers and sisters in laws are also a big blessing. I am so grateful for my brothers and nyabs. We all get a long, they are my favorite ppl to travel with.

Hmong men have got to be the most naive human beings in the world when it comes to practicing polygamous lifestyle. Other ethnic groups may practice polygamy but not due to lack of conceiving sons. Lack of education and greed doesn’t mix well...don’t expect blessings from higher superior (our great lord) when one can’t be faithful to ones spouse. Living life as one pleases is one of the biggest mistakes within mankind. Once an individual step into darkness (failed into lust/temptation of infidelity) one diminished all blessings and open door for sins/chaos). Life is too short to not appreciate what you have....don’t contemplate on what you don’t have; Instead, be great full about what you have and be thankful in all circumstances. Have faith....but living life with very little to no faith leads to poor choices.
