  • Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. South Iceland. 4K. Drone. 60 fps. Filmed in Late November, 2021. Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall that can be fully encircled, situated on the South Coast of Iceland with a drop of 60 metres (200 feet). Many of the vacation packages on offer promise plenty of time at Seljalandsfoss, such as this 6-Day Summer Tour; the same can be said for self-drive holidays, including this 10-Day Road Trip. Those who join a South Coast tour or rent a car can reach the waterfall from the capital in just a couple of hours. Due to the waterfall’s close proximity to the Ring Road and impressive natural features, it is one of the country's most famous and visited falls. Majestic and picturesque, it is one of the most photographed features in all of Iceland. Seljalandsfoss waterfall, part of the river Seljalandsá, has its origins underneath the glacier Eyjafjallajökull. The volcano beneath this ice cap was the one that erupted in 2010 and caused havoc at airports across Europe. The cascade of the falls is relatively narrow but falls from a tall cliff that once marked the country's coastline, the sea is now located across a stretch of lowlands and is visible from the site. - Info Guide to Iceland

Whilst in search of viewing the Aurora I walked under this fantastic waterfall and it was a most memorable experience. One of many I had whilst visiting Iceland during 2012 start of Solar Maximum. Thanks for letting me relive that moment. I see the Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) on the horizon and most interesting to see mountains and glacier that feed the waterfall. They were then covered in snow and ice when I was their in early spring.

Very nice video. I was there in oktober 2019. We couldn’t go behind the waterfall, it was closed. But before we came here we went to Kvernufoss, there we were behind the waterfall. That was very nice after a hike. I have a very nice picture from there hanging on my wall. Greetings from Holland.

Beautiful, does it freeze solid in winter?

Very often it does. This was filmed late November. Just did not have time to upload

Can’t recall this specific waterfall but many waterfalls form ice at their base and sides. Walking near any waterfall in winter is dangerous as it’s difficult to judge strength of the ice. At Thingvellir the falls freeze to such an extent that ice encases the water still flowing in the center of a gigantic covering of ice. Icelandic waterfalls are worth seeing in any season!
PS - Gulfoss is spectacular when surrounded by ice on a clear day, but don’t wander too close.

What flood spilled over those cliffs to create that landscape? Younger Dryas?

All Iceland igneous rock...aka lava:) Only age differs:) I have to check geological map of Iceland to tell you the age:)

@@IcelandExplorer …. Ahh. Perhaps that was the ocean level in the past. Then the ocean receded and the amazing delta fan of black sediment was deposited. Things are heating up under Iceland. 2022 will be a very interesting year. Be well and play.

Can't take the music - too monotonous! How about The Blue Danube as the track?
