While experience was not necessary for most of the programs I applied to, I believe it helped me stand out. During my junior-senior year of undergrad, I worked in a behavioral management program for children with ADHD and chose to take a practicum course at my school instead of another capstone course. This allowed me to shadow a clinical psychologist my whole senior year. My interview is in two days and I am hoping for the best!
I have my graduate interview for my CMHC master's program tomorrow! Your videos and your personality is helping me feel better about it. This is off topic, but I love your shirt and am wondering where you got it? It's so cute and I am looking for outfits that feel relaxed yet professional as I transition into my graduate career!
My lack of direct experience in a mental health setting is a big liability for me and it’s very frustrating. Despite being eminently qualified in most other ways, I’ve been told I’m going up against a bunch of kids (only teasing - I just turned 40) with a 3-month internship filing papers at a university mental health clinic. It feels like a way for universities to privilege their own students because their own undergraduate program requires such an internship. Sorry to be cynical but - oof - grad school admissions are just the worst, most arbitrary thing in my experience.

I hope all went well!
