The first guitar I ever touched was a single pickup one of these belonging to my old man. I used to pretend it was a battle axe when I was a kid. Thirty something years later I still have it, still love it, and still play it :)
Dave, long time subscriber, first time commenter. Your energy is infectious, you technique is outstanding but most of all, when you play I feel the meaning of every note. You sir are one in a 7 1/2 billion, I'm just glad to be part of the same 7 1/2 billion. Please never stop being The Dave Simpson!
you probably dont give a shit but if you guys are stoned like me atm you can watch pretty much all the new movies on Instaflixxer. I've been binge watching with my girlfriend these days :)
awesome jamming there...in 1970 ..i got From Woolworths the Teisco branded one t hink ?..two pickups .cant for the life of me remember the whammy on it though ,hmmm ..yup was £12.99 or there abouts..same sunburst.. so refreshing to here different tones ..we get bombarded with strat and gibson pickups etc .that we forget there are imense tones to be had from lesser brands....but at the end of the day ...you have the gift to make any guitar sound F.A.B .....rock on Dave...peace.
WOW!!! Bought one of these from Woolworths in 1973, was a single pickup version, £12.50p, the twin pickup was outa reach at £15, was only on £12a week! The pickups are amazing! Seen them put into telecasters, if you go on the teisco website you can get the delray logo for about £15, loved this video....
Dave....maaan...you are blowing me away with your playing, skills and this fantastic late-60s Teisco/Kawai!!! I just recently caught the Teisco/Kawai disease in my fifties after decades of lefty Pauls and lefty Strats... so damned surprised how great these "long-ago-deemed-poopy" pickups sound. The second of now five (in two months) Teisco (Kawai) guitars is an EG-413-3T 3-pup righty with vibrato arm from approx 1969-1972 (same era as yours) and it is kick arse!!! The zero fret made it easy to turn around the nut/string-guide for lefty play! Running it through my L6 Helix and it's stoopidly cool!!! I may well re-fret it myself as it is worth it for sure :)
Dave... you are an absolute joy to watch, you play incredibly well and your enthusiasm and passion is infectious, I’ve watched this particular video around 5 times already. The Teisco sounds outrageous and I came across your video because I’m looking for one and searched for reviews etc. I am actually looking at a similar Jedson telecaster style with the same dual pickups etc. Have you seen or played a Jedson, apparently they are the same as the Teisco, Kay and Audition guitars pretty much. I am definitely buying either a Teisco or a Jedson and your video has inspired me even more. Thanks, you are a breath of fresh air and so funny too. Cheers mate. Stay safe! 🙏🏻🎸
Great video. I just picked up an unbranded 70s MIJ Jaguar looking thing. 2 single coil PUPs. I'm inspired about the possibility after watching your video
Oh my! I haven’t seen one of those since I was 14 years old! (I’m 52 now) this was the very first electric guitar I ever got when I started playing. My mother bought it for me. She found it at a garage sale for 50 bucks. They didn’t know what hey had. Neither did I because I eventually sold it to buy a Strat. I sure wish I had it now.
Loved your slide playing Dave. I've got the exact same guitar, it was included in with a Squier guitar I bought. It's an intriguing, unique guitar for sure! Mine has a round 'Top Twenty' logo held on by 2 pins.
Had one as a kid - think more 1973/4 - bought off a Kay’s Catalogue - £78 0ver a year rings a bell 😀😀 loved it and last month bought another - 260 quid 😀- must be 3/4 the size and half the weight of a Strat but couldn’t remember that - think the tremolo arm on yours either much earlier model - later versions? A flatter chrome bar - Enjoy
Nice one..... These style of guitars where in most cash converts in the 90s ...I had one at some point and a Columbus and a hofner and the Italian guitar eko. you got a good one there Dave ,sound very nice. That trem sounds great (Jeff beck style) Cheers mate
I had one of these and sold it for fiscal reasons... very organic and sensitive probably due to the sparsely wrapped and unwaxed coils … a bargain shop joy.. nice one Dave
Awesome playing Dave, got one myself last year in pristine condition. Turn up at practice and other band members are WTF, start playing it and their smile drops. Then it’s really WTF!!!!
Great sounding guitar! Although I suspect you could make a steaming pile of crap of a guitar sound like a bed of roses! Great video, love them, keep them coming!
Super nice. I've owned a lot of similar guitars, Kays, Harmonys, Silvertones. They all have so much more unique and interesting sounding pickups than modern guitars. And I honestly don't know why zero frets aren't on every single guitar ever made. They just make so much sense and I can't think of a single downside to them... :)
Would like to see one of your close-up videos of this guitar. As an old geezer these are what was available to us as teens who were low on funds back in the mid to late Sixties. The rich guys had Fender Mustangs.
I had close to this guitar! (Teisco Silvertone 309-1412) Bought it in 1969 from Simpsons Sears cataloge. $50 Canadian with 15W amp, carrying bag and cord. Played with it in the highschool band. Would love to have one again.
Great video. Picked up a Top Twenty branded one of these off Facebook for just £15. Came with a Park amp and original case as well lol. A clean up and the action lowering a bit and it’s great fun. No Trem arm with it either funnily enough.
Great video, Dave! If you like Teisco... I'm gonna plug a channel I like a lot. Drowning in guitars. All sorts of teisco, lawsuit era, guitars made in places besides USA, UK, and the far east. I've been itching for a Galanti guitar from Italy that has been featured there... ;0) Oh, they have a website with information and history of all these kind of guitars as well.
Dangerous for me to watch Dave's vids. I tried to buy one of these on eBay within five mins of watching. Wouldn't ship to Northern Ireland so some other lucky duck got it! Good job I suppose as couldn't really spare the cash. But this is what happens when I watch sir Simpson!!
Picked up one of these from my local guitar shop in ruins for £25 (mainly cus I’m in a cure tribute and Robert Smith has one on the first album) gonna be a fun little project EDIT: Finished the guitar about a month ago... I am in love with it, might throw in an Epiphone Pickup in the middle for extra tone!
This sludgy, low fidelity tone reminds me so much of the English blues rock records of the the 60s and 70s. Savoy Brown (Kim Simmonds), Ten Years After, pre-pop rock Stevie Nicks & Buckingham Fleetwood Mac, etc. Also the American blues rock of the time, Johnny Winter, early ZZ Top. To me it sounds less Led Zeppelin and more Deram Records. They never paid much to get their stable of artists recorded and the results were often low fidelity, fuzzy, bad ass sounding records. It's amazing how close your tone is to those records. Honestly you blow most of those classic players out of the water. Isn't that amazing? I think people forget while making the "greatest players ever" list that players like yourself have kept the art form evolving. I have always maintained that there's about a thousand dudes nobody has ever heard of out there that can probably beat the breaks off those "10 best guitarists ever" lists. I realize there's many factors to that, such as their social/cultural impact and how many records their respective groups sold, but measure for measure you're right up there with some of the best I've ever heard in my life. I don't mean to worship at your alter TOO much lol, but if your playing is something to behold.
Man, you can get about anything to sound good. I am having one of those days where I can't get a tone out of anything and what I am playing sounds like a big repeat. Best to just put it up and listen to Dave....glad there is only one Monday a week.
Hi. You can buy a logo badge for it on eBay or elsewhere, made of metal. That bridge and neck is identical to the ones on the Zenta, another badge of the same brand.
Dave, found this info regarding Teisco guitars on Reverb- Kawai Kawais are probably most often mistaken for Teiscos because Kawai bought the Teisco brand name in 1967 and continued to make familiar Teisco guitars, while adding new models every year. Though sometimes sharing some similar looks, Kawai guitars tend to be a bit inferior to original Teisco guitars, especially when it comes to the wiring and pickups. There is one good way to distinguish a Kawai (or a Kawai-era Teisco) from an original Teisco: look for a string bar on the headstock. Kawai used this feature on a majority of its solid bodies, while original Teisco guitars never used string bars and instead favoured pitched headstocks.
Dave, this is weird. I had just watched a video by a guy named Gavin Lazarus before I started watching yours, and he had a guitar that if it isn't the one you have it would really be freaky! I just noticed your video is from 5 years ago, his was from 3 years ago, but it is the same model, in great condition, and it's missing the Teisco headstock emblem! I hope you read this if you're not already aware of the situation. I had one of the one single coil models in the Tulip series I got from a membership warehouse store called Gemco in the States around late 70's. I think I paid around $29USD. Peace
DAVE! I've got this exact guitar (at my Dad's). I've worked on it and worked on it and I can't get a low action and I'm afraid I'm going to snap the truss if I tighten it any more. I think I've put 9's on it. It's playable but not amazing. Any advice on that or should it be high? (Edit: Just got to the part about re-fretting. Yeah - it probably needs re-fretting at this point). It does, however, have the original trem-arm on it. Love the trem on this guitar, seriously good.
Love the intro Dave. Great looking and sounding guitar. It would be a good video showing the re-fret of the Teisco Del Ray, is it a job that you would do yourself or do you have a guitar tech ? Loved the “Man of the World” bit, quite haunting. 👍🏻
The tone is so open sounding with these guitars... However I've also found the action can be a problem. Once you get that sorted they're great guitars. I found both of mine for under £20 each, so if you're lucky you can still find these in charity shops, junk shops, antique centers etc.
Tokyo Electric Instrument and Sound Company - TEISCO
Thats really cool. :)
I had no idea
Aw, this old rumor! Sorry bud, that's actually not what it stands for. It doesn't stand for anything!
Ok... That tone has nutritional value!!
The first guitar I ever touched was a single pickup one of these belonging to my old man. I used to pretend it was a battle axe when I was a kid.
Thirty something years later I still have it, still love it, and still play it :)

@Jordy Harlem Definitely, I have been using InstaFlixxer for months myself =)
Oh yeah! Just had my face melted off by Dave Simpson! That was a thing of beauty!
EXACTLY my first electric guitar...1970... JC Penney.... brand new 29.95.
When you misread the title as "Tesco"... Every little helps. ;)
I read Tiesto and we were gonna find out about a trance music tone
This has got to be the best sounding guitar I have ever heard you play
This is phenomenal playing and tone! Thank you for blessing us man! ❤️
Had a lot of fun to watch this. You are a great Guitarist. Respect👍🏻👍🏻
Oh my god, Dave teach us slide playing! Pleeeaaaseeee! This is so badass
Mali Berto shitte man read my mind before I made the same comment
Great playing as always ...have looked at few to these now and after that the Teisco is on the must get list - good stuff

Picked one of these up today. Already in love with it.
awesome jamming there...in 1970 ..i got From Woolworths the Teisco branded one t hink ?..two pickups .cant for the life of me remember the whammy on it though ,hmmm ..yup was £12.99 or there abouts..same sunburst.. so refreshing to here different tones ..we get bombarded with strat and gibson pickups etc .that we forget there are imense tones to be had from lesser brands....but at the end of the day ...you have the gift to make any guitar sound F.A.B .....rock on Dave...peace.

That was some really really cool playing:) i must say you master the slide very well! Keep rocking mr Simpson!

Wowzers! That's good playing!
Beautiful brother dave..
Fantastic, Dave !!!! Just managed to get one of these Top Twenty's today !! Pick it up tomorrow night....🥳🥳🥳

Just got one of these , cleaned and setup , awesome playing Dave
I've been all round my local Teisco and they didn't have one. None in Aldee either.
Chris Shades it’s an old Japanese company that stands for Tokyo Electric Instrument Sound Company
What about Aeisda and Morreissons?
@@homeone4054 at least you got the joke. :-)
Loved your slide playing Dave. I've got the exact same guitar, it was included in with a Squier guitar I bought. It's an intriguing, unique guitar for sure! Mine has a round 'Top Twenty' logo held on by 2 pins.
Oh my Lordy! Fine playin!! #inspired!
Now, THOSE are some good tones!
Mine was a Kingston and had 4 of those lovely singles.
Alrighty Now!! Why the thumbs down?? The best demo of this guitar I've seen. Jam On, Jam On!!
man your mic quality has RISEN since last time i've seen you
Great sounding guitar! Although I suspect you could make a steaming pile of crap of a guitar sound like a bed of roses! Great video, love them, keep them coming!
IT's incredible how utilitarian the design of these old "cheap" (Were expensive by today's standards) guitars were.
That sounds amazing mate!
Getting a marble finish one today-dig your vibes man!
I have a slightly different one Dave. The necks like a bloody propellor now lol. Another fantastic video mate!!
Tu es un grand malade, j'adore !!!
I had a Columbus very much the same but with an offset neck pickup ,great action very light regretfully sold it ..
That was the first guitar I ever owned, bought from a Freemans catalogue, or something else of that nature. Wish I still had it!
Jim Robb they are all over eBay for between 100 and 200
£57 last year on eBay
And, one more time, AWESOME!!!!
Would like to see one of your close-up videos of this guitar. As an old geezer these are what was available to us as teens who were low on funds back in the mid to late Sixties. The rich guys had Fender Mustangs.
Great demo!!!!
£60 man unbelievable, the boy is back !
Loadsa fun, thank-you Dave; but I don't think I'll be looking out for one myself :o)
I had close to this guitar! (Teisco Silvertone 309-1412) Bought it in 1969 from Simpsons Sears cataloge. $50 Canadian with 15W amp, carrying bag and cord. Played with it in the highschool band. Would love to have one again.
you're incredible! i remember seeing you shred a Squier before and it was a surprise seeing you again when searching for the Teisco tone.
Thank you very much. : )
Great video. Picked up a Top Twenty branded one of these off Facebook for just £15. Came with a Park amp and original case as well lol. A clean up and the action lowering a bit and it’s great fun. No Trem arm with it either funnily enough.

That sounds so damn good! My first guitar was a tiesco, but it was in really poor shape. Thinking about picking one up that actually works this time
damn it!, now i want a teisco
That things looks ubercool
That thing seems like a beast, damn.
Happy days eh Dave . 😁
I’v got one similar to it.fun to play.made in the late 60’s
Ha, your Teisco is in such better nick than mine! Still it's hard to argue with how cheap these little vintage noise makers can be found for!
Oo.Mm.Gg!! That intro!!👌🏼👍🏼
i have one, bought it new in 1972 from Kays catalogue
I would die for your review of the Eastwood guitars hi flier
Damn nice demo Dave.
You should really consider putting your intros out for download, that intro jams my mans
Yeah... Cheers Dave, thanks to your videos the prices have gone up like a rocket 🤣
I just scored one for 170 quid!
good sound can come from any equipment, I just got a fuzzface tone from my boss DS1 by running into my bandit while the amp was already at half gain.
canned heat at woodstock vibes, fucking sick playing skills
Nice sound!
Thank you. : )
Fuaaa!! Como suena eso hermano!!!
I think that one is a Teisco Audition. They used to sell them in Woolworths.
In My Time of Dying tone
Noah Woodworth totally!

Hey ,Ho, Teisco , damn Dave careful of gators in that swamp you're in ,ha the opening is greasssyyyy,

Oh, I forgot to mention...awesome playing!
Thank you very much. :)
Cool

First!!! Awesome!!!
Dave, found this info regarding Teisco guitars on Reverb-
Kawai

Thank you for the info. : )
That tone is just killer man.
Thank you very much. : )
You can buy Teisco headstock logos on ebay from EZPZ guitar parts
That guitar has great slide tone I think Ry Cooder use those Teisco pickups in his guitar

You have to check out the Band Handsome Jack... Awesome band with a really really hot Teisco guitar...
Smashing pumpkins too
Love the intro Dave. Great looking and sounding guitar.
It would be a good video showing the re-fret of the Teisco Del Ray, is it a job that you would do yourself or do you have a guitar tech ?
Loved the “Man of the World” bit, quite haunting. 👍🏻
Thank you very much for watching, The regret will be done by a local luthier so sadly i wont be able to film it. Sorry. : (
The tone is so open sounding with these guitars... However I've also found the action can be a problem. Once you get that sorted they're great guitars. I found both of mine for under £20 each, so if you're lucky you can still find these in charity shops, junk shops, antique centers etc.
The action on mine is perfect. No adjustment needed and it's been in a case for 40 some odd years. Fee small problems but still sounds great
Dave Simpson's hands and CR120 could make a turnip sound great.
