Your kid has no idea how lucky he is to have you as a father and to have fishing (and boats) around. My best days as a kid were spent in a lake in Canada (Jack Lake) with my dad in his boat. Props to you Rod.
Rod you are an absolute lad and a bit for handing your rod over to the little fella and although he ended up losing it I’m sure it gave him a good memory and even more inspo to keep fishing! By the way you handled it like a champ for how good of a fish it was
My boy is only 8 months old now. I hope one day I have a massive redfish or speckled trout on the line and I have to suffer the heartbreak of giving the rod to my anxious boy. What a treat.
I love this boat. I have been showing my son (Who is a Doctor) I just love saying that, LOL. He is 34 and married has been looking for a boat since he was in high school. I just feel like this one is so much safer and has so much more to offer. I hate you guys lost the fish but you are making wonderful memories. Keep the videos coming. I love watching your videos.
You're the best dad in the world Rod! Letting Fox take that fish is the stuff memories are made of. That was a way better choice than keeping the fish yourself, even if you had landed it. You da man!
I'm so happy for you Rod, I see this boat brings a lot of joy to you. Good see you out fishing with your son Fox awesome. Got a question, what ever happened to your sailboat? Well you have a blessed day. Aloha from Kansas
Cool knowing you probably had a pb and still handed the rod over. My dad did the same for me with the same result. Every time we fished together afterward it was a long running friendly ribbing. Thanks for the video! 🤙
Definitely go the dc charger, I run one between my lithium house banks and my agm starters, works very well. Will also give you the option if you want just to plug a solar panel or blanket into the dc charger to top up when needed
Your boat is fab. It's got everything you need to be safe and comfortable on your trips to those remote places. Love your videos, and as always, I'm looking forward to seeing your next instalment.
This is one of the best setup small boats everything thats needed but isnt crowded at all ill definetly be using some of these ideas when i get my jetboat project underway, well done
I've seen lots of problems with auto-deploy Minn-Kota units and read about many more. I ordered a manual deploy when I had my boat built and it's been awesome. Simple is best sometimes!
I hope you stay in a smaller boat. They are so much more fun and in tune with nature so to speak. I have owned 12 to 17 foot boats since I was 9 starting with my first 12' jon boat in the mid 80s. Almost 40 years. It makes your adventures so much better and also relatable at least to me.
Good job dad. Kids learning good. The excitement in his voice brings this dad of kids that aren’t so you a big smile. I miss those days. Love your videos brother.
I absolutely love your Stabi 👍 I have a high end brand aluminum fishing boat for my area in the US and I constantly see things on your Stabi and think man that's nice. I'd swap for the same boat you have any day 😀
That was so interesting. I really enjoyed all the info. Loved the way Fox wasn't exaggerated just how big that fish was a typical fisherman 😅. Great video, thank you.
Wow you’re so cool 😎 to hang out with your son mate to see the joy on his face with that flathead he was dragging in but even though it got away he was still excited and a story to tell about the one that got away cheers 🍻 buddy always great to watch tight lines 🎣🤠🤩
Thanks for the video, don't get an auto deploy Minn Kota. They fail by stripping the deploy gear case when the motor hits bottom in swell or passing boat chop. I doubt you would last a couple of trips without doing damage. Secondly, thanks to you and other people I think a 1450 Stabi Explorer is in my future.😅
Wow. I have been watching your channel for years now. Crazy to see how big your son has gotten haha. Feels the same with my boys. They grow up quick! Might need to take a boat trip this weekend as well.
That was pretty awesome. It was this big. Oh well that's fishing. Losing fish at the boat is part and parcel. He definitely wasn't disappointed that was great
Its days like this that Fox will look back at and remember with love in his heart. "Remember that day I nearly caught a state record fish and then we found that rubber ring? BEST DAY EVER"
Hi Rod, I have a 1450 Stabi Profish and have the Minn Kota with the same lithium battery as you. I have set the battery up with an Anderson Plug and have a 200W Kings solar blanket and an Allspark DC 2 DC controller. On a sunny day I can top my battery up from 80% to 98% in 90minutes!!
The self deployed one is the ulterra, i had one on my Quintrex but went back to theTerrova because it was spending too much time at BLA instead at the bow of my boat. Reliability won over convinience in the end.
I love this channel. You are so patient. Yeah, that flathead would’ve been an awesome catch, and probably my PB but, hey, things happen 🙄😡😁🩷 Love, love, love watching your love and tolerance hahaha
Great set up mate. I just got my Polycraft center consul all set up the way I wanted it years ago and I got crook and couldn't use it anymore, but it was fun setting it up. Would of been epic if young Fox landed the big flatty but ah well, thats fishing...great vid as usual.
iPilot link was a game changer, my boat was already rigged with humminbird, also the self deploy isn't worth the cost because we had it fail on the water and could not stow the motor with the tools we had and it ended our trip early.
It was a lovely moment there with your kid, I felt the disappointment in losing the fish (let alone seeing it even😂😂) but so much informative video. Just wanted to check, did u ever think of having a sun roof on the boat when it's blazing down on a long ride??? Lovely entertaining video thanks buddy😊
When you’re out with the kids, might I suggest getting them a couple of ice fishing rods with some stiff backbone for them to use. I know they’re capable of using regular rods, but I find a sturdy ice fishing rod makes for better control for kids. Much more in proportion to their size but still really strong. Caught some good sized(10lbs+) lake trout on a 3-4ft heavy ice rod….
Hey Rod, just a thought: to get some extra range, if youre looking for a justifiable engine upgrade, maybe you could look into something like a diesel outboard? Extra torque and range could be a good upgrade if you ever feel like upgrading. Just a thought. :) Great video, Fox (Fawx? Fawks?) Is definitely gonna remember these days and look back on them fondly.
Hey man, it's your content and if some don't like it they can go. If y'all don't have anything positive to say and this mate is wayyy positive, then don't say anything! I'm sitting here having my morning coffee with my 3 year old grandson watching your son and you fish. My grandson is learning fishing from your grabbin the rod son, Rod and we freakin LOVE IT!!! Keep doin what you're doin mate...
The people telling you to talk less should follow their own advice. 🤣 Awesome video, Rod. Great to see you and Fox having good (and some not as good) times!
Ouch! I think all fishing dads can relate to that. Want to encourage the child, but don't want to lose the fish. Don't think I've ever seen you catch a big flathead on your videos 😂
When I was a little boy of 5 years old in 1970, all my Dad had was a 12 foot canoe and a 3 horse putt putt motor to go fishing. So ya, you are doing alright.
Nice one cheers, fyi though 60hp would be over the max rating so you will have issues with insurance, also the self deploying Ulterra has massive issues, would not recommend that one, thanks for the vid mate.
Hey Rod ill be interested to see how your Bait Board works out. I fitted one but it leans too far inwards and all your fish juice and guts runs inwards and dribble inside the boat. Works better if you turn it around with the outlet drain inwards and fit a bit of hose on it out over the side. Bit of a design fault really.
Jesus. How long I’ve suffered with the sticky end of tefgel. Not once did I think to wrap it up like that. Minds blown. Soo good. Very nasty stuff on the skin btw. 🤙🤙👍👍
After seeing this boat, it looks like it could be great fit for the fishing I do. Would you know how much the boat drafts? Can’t seem to find the specification on manufacturers website. Just trying to see how shallow of water this will float in since the bays in my area of USA can get shallow and that’s where the fish are.
How covenient is the railblaza products I also use those starports myslf so easy to apply. Nice to see you are schooling fox at the art of soft plastics. It great to see the flathead are breeding well 👍🏻 You definitely are an inspiration!! Love your work mate take care🤙
Presumably you would want to use the DC to DC charger to top up the Minkota battery with the alternator. Can you point me to a website which explains how to wire this? I used to charge the house battery just with a charging relay in my previous boat but trying to work out pros and cons and how to use DC2DC option.
If i ever get frustrated when my wife or kids lose a fish all i have to do is remind myself of how many amazing fish ive lost lol way more than i could count
We felt your pain (and love for your lad) as you handed the rod over, no matter the outcome ... a beautiful moment indeed. Thank you!
Ay mate! Made me love this guy and his channel even more! Love from America to everyone!
Such a beautiful moment rod, love how excited he was!
Your kid has no idea how lucky he is to have you as a father and to have fishing (and boats) around. My best days as a kid were spent in a lake in Canada (Jack Lake) with my dad in his boat. Props to you Rod.
Thanks mate, yea I definitely say some of my closest and most memorable moments with my dad growing up would be out on the water as well👍
When you started talking about the mods you’ve done you see this big pink donut in the background😅😅 one of the best videos yet!
@@rokkitkitthe future of the world is in good hands with that young dude

you truly inspire me to keep my life and financials in order with the goal of being able to really enjoy the hobbies that make me happy.

Onya mate, i love telling people my sons a pilot lol
My son is in jail 10- 15 years 😂😂😂
What a catch! I'm not talking about the fish either. The memories that you two made are priceless. You didn't lose anything but a fish.
I am very curious how you got the live tank to fill up when you are just driving along? do you have a more indepth video on that setup?
You're the best dad in the world Rod! Letting Fox take that fish is the stuff memories are made of. That was a way better choice than keeping the fish yourself, even if you had landed it. You da man!

You are such a patient communicator with Fox. Love the boat.

love it - great walk through ...that flathead clearly didn't want to be the first sacrifice on the new fillet table!
Good job dad. Kids learning good. The excitement in his voice brings this dad of kids that aren’t so you a big smile. I miss those days. Love your videos brother.
You brought back some great memories that I forgot about when I was a kid.
I miss those times.
Enjoy the upgrades, enjoyed the young bloke doing his best with the monster flatty! Pity it wasn't landed, but would have been a release anyway.
8:40 I like how your son has an opinion, that's a good parenting.
good dad you,ve made him a memory that,ll last forever . fox is the best . love hearin what he has to say kids perspective takes me back
Rod that was the most wholesome experience on all of UA-cam. You're a legend
I absolutely love your Stabi 👍 I have a high end brand aluminum fishing boat for my area in the US and I constantly see things on your Stabi and think man that's nice. I'd swap for the same boat you have any day 😀
I wish we'd get some dealers in the Midwest and East Coast.

Can’t wait to see you use that cutting board on the boat! It’s amazing how some small changes can make a world of difference.

Making memories mate. Good to see the Aussie cast. Right hand cast and reeling. Also flatty best fish fingers in the world.
Its days like this that Fox will look back at and remember with love in his heart. "Remember that day I nearly caught a state record fish and then we found that rubber ring? BEST DAY EVER"
Great video mate , truly , I enjoyed the part with your kid plus the upgrades on your boat.

I love you teaching the young lad even if it got away ❤
The self deployed one is the ulterra, i had one on my Quintrex but went back to theTerrova because it was spending too much time at BLA instead at the bow of my boat. Reliability won over convinience in the end.
That was a great moment you caught on camera there. Even though it was so painful at the same time
Its nice being able to watch these are they are released now that Im in the same timezone as you!
I love this channel. You are so patient. Yeah, that flathead would’ve been an awesome catch, and probably my PB but, hey, things happen 🙄😡😁🩷 Love, love, love watching your love and tolerance hahaha

Big flatty - Ouch.
Love your boat mods. If I'm ever in the market to upgrade from a kayak, your boat will be my template.
iPilot link was a game changer, my boat was already rigged with humminbird, also the self deploy isn't worth the cost because we had it fail on the water and could not stow the motor with the tools we had and it ended our trip early.
It's ok bro he is in learning process.😊 you did amazing by giving him chance to have this experience
Great little rig and great to see you don’t need a $200k set up to get amongst it!
Awesome team work boat setup is spot on.👍🎣

Is that your youngest????? Boy has he grown since I saw him last. Such a handsome little guy!! Love when you do videos with the family XOXOX

How sweet the motor sounds.
There is no greater joy than fishing with your kids.
Sweet. At least you two can share the story of the one that got away 😆
Dude.
Lucky we love our kids.
HeMll remember that for the rest of his life mate:
Good dad skills right there.
One heck of a fish little man 👍👍👍👍🙏. Love seeing the kids out doing fun things.
This is the best video you've done. This is beyond amazing.
these moments are golden memories, it'll pass by quickly.

Good on you for letting the young fulla have a go on the big one that got away!! haha Nice!
The DIY bait well is pretty awesome
Awww… better luck next time Foxy! Just keep on fishin’! 😺
Valuable info. One of the best on youtube!
Dad of the Year for passing the Loaded rod over to the kid 👌 👌 👌
We know it was 80+cm and it was going back anyhow. Never mind.
Nice setup. You did a good job covering ant questions i wondered about. I dont comment much but i do look forward to your videos.

You should get a plastic board you can put over the chopping board so you don’t scratch it up.
Nice drone footage 😊
Great vid as usual. Would love to see a colas with Sammy hitzke and you

Thank you Fox! I have been wondering about that net!
