Eagle eyes you have there! That seems to be where the shoe creases/folds when I run. I don't notice it, and it doesn't bother my toes at all while running. Can't say it's normal, but I haven't seen it ever happen to other shoes...
I wear a us10 converse/vans. You mentioned you took a 10 in the escalante3. I think our foot is the same size. Would you recommend a 10.5 (upsize half)or should i stick with 10. Im going for escalante 2.5 or 3
Hey, my Converses are actually only an 8.5, but I wear my running shoes large. It is always advised to wear bigger shoes for running, to prevent black toenails. So if you're wearing them for running, I'd definitely recommend going a full size up.
@@TDMiller thats my casual shoe size. Ok so you are actually half a size smaller than me. I think i will go do a fit for the altras at a shop since i dont know altra sizing with the large toe box. Only know asics running shoes.
Right now I have Torin5, Escalante3 and Superior4,5. Escalantes are no good for me. I feel a little kneepain after I have been running in them. The Torins are good but torn and I’m thinking about replacing them both with Outroads now that the winter is coming (GoT). How are the Vanish Tempo in the wet weather?
How wet are we talking about? I once went out for a tempo run in them and got completely soaked when the heavens opened up. Nothing was left dry. They offer virtually no protection from the weather, but do dry up easily afterwards. The outsole is very minimal, but does provide sufficient traction on most surfaces imo.
Great question! Sounds like a awesome journey. Where will you be going? The Altra Olympus is the first one that comes to mind. Very cushioned, excellent grip, provides protection. The Olympus 5 comes in several varieties. Regular, waterproof, or waterproof hiking boot. Here it depends on your preference. As I'm a runner, I'd go for the regular, but you may want the hiking boot instead? As for sizing, my guess is that size 10.5US/44.5EU (or half a size up) is good for you.
@@TDMiller Thanks for answering. I will go to Camino Santiago of Norte. More than 800km. I have this boot Salewa Ultra Flex 2 Mid Goretex, and maybe I will go with, but I need another pair, and I prefer shoe. Sincerely I was thinking in Lone Peak or Timp, what do you think?
@@antonioleal1676 both are great shoes! Timp offers slightly more cushion, so is probably more comfortable for longer distances 👍 but you can't go wrong with either, in my opinion 😊
@@antonioleal1676 Salewa shoes are the typical/traditional pointy toebox design. That's horrible on long walks (blisters!). Don't support bad shoe design.
@@weuek i walk 13 days with salewa, and in the day 8 the foot need more room. But there so few options in the market, i have a issue with Altra because of premature wear.
Wet pavement is absolutely fine. Just need to be aware of the occasional manhole cover. They can be slippery when wet, but I doubt many shoes can handle wet metal 😅
Great clip Timothy, those Altra Escalante 3 looks so good! Very good review mate! Best wishes!
I think the Altra Escalante 3 might be my next shoe, they sound pretty decent actually.
Very nice review. I noticed that in one shoe (I think right) there is a small bump close to the big toe. Is that normal?

Might have to get some E3s… do like the look of them. I too am guilty of an aggressive method of shoe removal !

The Escalante 2.5 had very poor grip in wet conditions on pavement, I remember that well.

@@TDMiller were talking Swedish autumn - really wet! 😅
Actually I was asking about the traction mostly but you answered that too. 😊👍
Lone Peak all weather for wet weather. Very comfortable too.
I find new altras sizing bigger in running shoes I’ve gone down half a size
Hi, what Altra do you think is nice to hike, 65% Road, 35%Mountain. For a Journey 30 days?? I have 27,2 cm of Length of foot? Thank you

how are the outroad maxtrac grip on wet granite/stone pavement

Are there any other altras that have the same midsole as the Rivera 2?
Currently the Escalante, Rivera, Lone Peak and Outroad all have the Ego Midsole.
