  • The First night in Hospital dealing with overwhelm & the uncertainty. Whilst feeling ok there were tests after tests. More concerns following the test results. Waiting for an MRI scan and waiting for the results. Feeling reflective and grateful for everything that I’ve experienced so far.
After the MRI scan I heard the words for the first time. Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. I didn’t really understand what it meant.
The heart is thicker than the normal heart should be. The heart can’t pump as effectively as it should. It’s like a coconut skin instead of a banana skin. Understanding how it all works and why you might have water on your lungs.
It’s one of the conditions that causes Footballers and Marathon runners to collapse and die. Many people don’t know they have it.
The one good thing is I know I’ve got it. Heading home after 3 days feeling grateful for the absolutely amazing NHS and friends and family supporting me.
Reflections on appreciating life so far. The realisation that it was life changing but not life defining.
