    Gear I use:
    Guitar: changes by the video. i use a lot of fender, and gibson. but feel free to ask specifics.
    Pickups: all of my guitars use different pickups depending on what suits them but i will say Bare Knuckle Pickups are my favorite and preferred brand. feel free to ask specifics
    Amps: Fractal AxeFX 2 for the guitar tone on my covers, lessons, and original music . i almost always use Soldano SLO100 presets but sometimes some Friedman, Orange and others sneak in.. i dont typically use real amps anymore. certainly not in my videos just for convenience.
    Strings: 9-46 are my main string gauge for fenders. i'll use 10-52 on Gibsons typically. i tend to flip flop between Ernie Ball and D'addario.
    Picks: i tend to use .88mm Tortex but i'll use .60mm for faster strumming songs or for Bass guitar.
    DAW: Reaper for all my recording software.

    Blink has gotta be one of the first bands to go “live” on the internet. I remember watching the live streams of them in the studio while recording the self titled album around 2002-03 and loving it. It’s funny looking back at how things were 20 years ago compared to now lol.

    I'd bet that if there's neck Invaders in some TD Strats, the cause could be that Fender bought a bunch of matched sets from Seymour Duncan, and didn't have a use for the neck Invaders in anything else, so they just threw them in the TD Strats anyways

      In the MTV 2003 album launch his first 333 was like a dark brown or black with a orange stripe through the center and it had an orange headstock, I honestly liked that one more than the olive and cream colored one or whatever you'd call those colors.. Sometimes it looks gray and other times it looks almost brown or Olive green.. Maybe a shade or two lighter

      Also, I would like to add something because no matter what blink or Tom subject I reply on I always see the same comment about how "Matt skiba is ruining blink 182" so let me kinda set the record straight here. Tom Delonge seemed to progress and advance musically or in the very least songwriting wise faster than mark. Given all his non music related endeavors though he just has to much going on In his head and wanted to further broaden his horizon with his alien or ufo research. It was wrong how he went about leaving the band but what do u expect from a guy that's done it once before? Angels and airwaves is musically more advanced and complex than anything blink has done (aside from self titled and some of neighborhoods and the dogs eating dogs ep) Travis Barker's is literally the glue that holds blink 182 together. He's a far more advanced and better musician than anyone in any of those blink related bands. Matt skiba is one great song writer, decent guitar player and over all he's a great fit for the band...however..I think with Matt, mark and Travis they should just consider blink 182 dead in the water and move on with renaming the band or have a reunion with Matt, mark, Tom and Travis. They should go on one last tour with everyone, play all the songs we wanna hear and put out one last record and just consider it done. Mark is using blink as a cash grab and running the band into the ground, not Matt. All Matt did was join the band to take Tom's place. He didn't want to kick Tom out and take his spot and replace him and be that guy that's like the new stepdad. Given all the circumstances Matt is just doing what he loves and he's been friends with mark, Tom and Travis for ages. Tom and the guys actually toured with Matt and alkaline trio on warped years ago and there's interviews where they really back skiba up saying what a great song writer he is. Tom says " it's weird seeing Matt and alkaline trio play out here in the sun and heat because they're like a band you'd wanna see at night on Halloween" Matt is the best fit for blink 182 so stop hating on the guy. Marks musical creativity was stripped from him when John Feldman started taking over on the California album which is so sad to me. Goldfinger is one of the most important punk bands of the generation. Ska punk couldn't be mentioned without hearing about goldfinger. Now if you look at them they're a shitty pop punk band that Waters down their content with abunch of "na na nas" and there's no creative songwriting anymore. Travis Barker went on tour with them and did a lot of recording for goldfingers latest album. Blame John Feldman and Mark for this bullshit, not Matt. If you're a true fan you'll obviously figure it out

      Logan Light His ES 333 is not Olive color Tom said himself that when he got his own model it was a chocolate brown color with the cream racing stripe. I don’t know why people think it’s olive color, maybe the lighting in the picture?

    • @loganlight7758
      @loganlight7758 4 роки тому

      @@alexzemaitis1207 well that's basically what I said. I said idk but sometimes it looks brown or like an olive drab green and other times I've seen it the guitar looked almost like a greyish color. I think its just the lighting and probably different filters or exposure on different photo shoots and stuff which would make the most logical sense. Most live videos I've watched it looks brown and not like a drab olive color so that kind of backs up the lighting or different photo filters theory.

    Revisiting this video to say that I have some stuff coming in the mail for a build I’m doing. Strings included. Once I have the strings I will restring and setup my 2001 TD strat and check under the hood for which version is in it. It’s all stock and aside from string changes and set ups I’ve never checked. Thanks for the content, as always.
    EDIT: so I finally got under the hood of my TD strat. By the serial number it was made in 2001, it’s a daphne blue model that is entirely stock. Never gotten under the hood, plastic on the guard still. The pickup has a small white sticker with a “B” on it. Seemingly, it is a bridge invader. However, I took some photos of it next to a brand new invader. The sticker on the new invader has the model number and says “BRG” as well. Found this all very interesting. I can send the pics on Instagram or something if you want. Thanks again!

I’m surprised you didn’t ask about the original prototype strat, guitars with trem bridges, the ‘obvious’ guitar, or any of the previously unseen guitars he sold via the reissue and legacy sale. • @littleredguitars2

      fender also made telecaster subsonics which this mightve been. that guitar was originally red. and he painted it blue. the guitar tom painted white was the original orange subcaster. and the guitar he painted orange with the zebra pickup was just a production model subsonic strat from the looks of it with the single humbucker since subsonics came in the lake placid blue color that it was originally. i dont feel like i really need any info on tom's obvious jazzmaster and i asked about the red cyclone but i didnt get a response on that one.

I recently put new black hardware and fenders black locking tuners on it. It has the maple neck and I've stripped the lacquer off the back for a much smoother feel. I absolutely love it and ill probably have to be buried with it one day lol

    CS Guitars and Bass orders can be done to the exact specs of an artist model that isn't "officially" offered by the custom shop. The caveat is that on the paper work you can't have them say for example "(my favorite musicians name) style neck" but you can give them the dimensions and radius of the neck etc and they'll be happy to make it happen. It's a copy right and licensing thing. Those are reserved for limited runs like the Custom Shop Geddy Lee Number 1 Bass. However you could say " make my neck like that" They'll say sure give us the dimensions but we aren't calling it Geddy Lees neck on your shop traveler paperwork.

    Maybe a bit late but I asked some years ago for a Custom Shop Tom Delonge with a few changes like 12" radius, 10/56 neck shape, maple fretboard instead of rosewood and got the reply from Fender that it may not be possible to make this guitar due to copyright. Gave it a try and what I got was a Strat with a 4,000 Euros price tag, my desired Tom Delonge specs but with an eggshell pickguard instead of the moto and a single volume knob in an off-position and not as it should be directly centered under the Invader. So I had to refuse the guitar and got my money back because it was not as ordered. Was a huge pain in the axx the whole story which took about 9 months from placing the order since delivery. Got some pictures of it if you like to see the result. Since then I'm not the biggest Fender fan anymore.

Thanks so much for this it was awesome to clear some of this up.

    Hey @littleredguitars2 - I own one of the custom fender strats they put out (seafoam green), however, its missing some hardware and I was hoping you could help me find what I need to buy to restore it. Its mising the volume knob and one of the humbucker screws. Any idea what I need to buy to get this bad boy fixed?

    i built my own delonge strat using a shitty diy build kit off ebay and a legit bridge invader, it sucked, still got the pickguard with invader and single coil tap switch, the pickguard has been signed by Mark Tremonti, can i get anymore off target from the delonge strat?

    Do you know much about the TD strats with the maple fretboard? I’ve seen images from the ‘Mark, Tom and Travis show’ tour where Tom has a graffiti yellow strat, one with a rosewood fretboard, one maple.
    Do you know, was this the only model with the maple? Was this just a prototype?
    I’ve not seen another model with the maple, but I’m no expert.
    Many thanks.

      The maple neck was a subsonic neck. Baritone scale. He sold it during his delegacy sale a few years ago

    Sorry for the super late comment, but if you get a chance I’d love to get info from this guy about whether or not Tom used his custom strats on Enema of the State, Take Off, and BCR. It sounds like it, but Mark and Tom have remarked in interviews before about how they were always able to make selections out of Jerry Finn’s collection of guitars when recording those albums, so we don’t know for sure.

      There’s footage of Tom using a honeyburst or gold top les paul (can’t remember) recording “feeling this” so that’s probably a good indicator they used a few different guitars through those albums :) but I think that occasionally Tom would use the strat but I read somewhere Jerry wasn’t a fan of it in the studio, so idk 🤷 probably used a few like most producers and artists do for certain song sections etc

    Really interesting, thanks for sharing! I’m a current 2001 surf green owner and can confirm it has an invader bridge humbucker. My additional question to him would be what brand and value of volume pot and capacitor were used in Tom’s models?

    • @littleredguitars2

    • @rogerconnick

      littleredguitars2 I’ve just had a look under the hood...mines got a CGE 500k volume pot (don’t think CGE exist anymore). Weirdly it has a treble-bleed resistor, but no capacitor at all!

    • @jarredbaca8112
      @jarredbaca8112 2 роки тому

      The treble bleed specs are a .68 ceramic capacitor and a 220kohm resistor wired in parallel, (production models only) customs didn’t have the bleed circuit 🩸

    Cool video man. Fantastic in fact. Lots of really good answers to questions I didn’t realise existed!!
    My favourite Tom DeLonge strat was always the black one he played on the MTV EMA awards - the night when his guitar / wireless system let him down. Think it’s the same one he played carousel on on those Chicago videos in 2000/2001.
    Do you have any information on that? Was it just a ‘standard’ tom DeLonge strat painted black. Maybe one of his all white ones painted all black. It just looked so simple and beautiful!

      @littleredguitars2  5 років тому +1

      littleredguitars2 I managed to get a screenshot from the video from the MTV awards and it had a very cold heart logo on the body. Shame he smashed it!! Maybe he only had one and that’s why we never saw it again. He used it on the letterman shows as well to play rock show. You can’t see very well but it doesn’t look like it had a pick guard. Maybe a transparent one. Just looked all black. Beautiful thing.

I’ve swapped out the pickguard because i play the guitar all the time and wanted some different tones.
