- We went for a stroll down to Burry Port Harbour, and these views clearly show Carmarthen Bay Power Station overlooking the area in 1989, some 25 years ago now....A nostalgic look back to how it was.

Isn't it great that old movies like this can still be captivating. I'm sure much has changed since you made the piece but it has a magical quality now. Maybe being shot as a silent film had something to do with it. Whatever, this is a smashing record of the past and worth preserving.
Thanks Rob, this was shot on 8mm video, transferred to VHS, then on to DVD and finally to here. There was a sound track, but the wind was too prominent to keep it on here....Regards...Bob
we take the campervan and park on the long car park overlooking the beach, it is beautiful there. Its become one of our favourite places to visit. This film is a revelation to us, we have chatted with many of the locals about this, what an excellent piece of film Rob! The people of Bury Port are some of the best you will ever meet.
I'm delighted that you love my home area so much, it's always been a hidden Gem of the Carmarthenshire Coast, and there are plans afoot to make it even better....You may want to see much more of the area through my Facebook Page....facebook.com/groups/1813673572201808/ Regards...Bob
Interesting to see The old Power Station Bob....Things have certainly changed in 25 years...I was surprised how many people were at the Harbour walking around, i wonder if it's like that these days? Great to see this video...imagine if you had your X920 back then !! best wishes ..Steve.
Thanks Steve, this was taken on 8mm video transferred to VHS, then on to DVD before processing onto here...so the quality has suffered. The crowds were there to see the fishing competition, but on fine Summer evenings, there are still quite a few to be seen down there...Best wishes...Bob
Superb Bob. That brings back memories to a lot of people. That power station we remember from holiday trip when visiting the Mumbles. How the harbour has changed. but some of the old land marks are still around. (C&A)
I hope so C&A, there are many subtle changes since then....Thanks as always...Bob
Thanks Robert,my gran lived in burry port have many fond memories of school holidays down there!
I remember the power station before it was knocked down and the coal trucks,
Used to swim in the harbour with a local burry port mate fun times!
I also remember the"slag"beach been trying to find any photos or old film.
The harbour also had a marine shop,i bought a inflatable dinghy and rowed out to gower in it! lots of diving gear i bought for snorkeling on the beach between the old and new harbuor, had to watch the current very strong, spearfishing on the mud flats low tide on old harbour beach was fun many a flat fish caught, fun times.
thanks for film.
Rob Parsons.
Hello Rob, it's so rewarding to know that my work evokes such happy memories for you.....There is a great deal of images on a Facebook site called "Memories of Burry Port" that you may be interested in......Best wishes....Bob
yes passed by burry port last weekend for 50th birthday,we took a train trip from Newport to tenby passing through Burry Port,I still miss the droning sound of power station long gone,I also forgot back in 89 CB radio played a big part of Burry Port fun, listen to boats carry them onboard and talking to them on Tenby runs from Burry Port Harbour. My Gran even had a cb radio in Tan Yr Bryn house and I had a cb on bike to stay in touch, mobiles phones were reserved for Big Corporate people back then lol.
Just rewatched this video again,I can see me moving back to Burry Port one day even though my grans passed away years ago, just love the place and people.
Take it easy Rob,Bob :)
am right back there now , great video
Delighted you've enjoyed this, it's old footage, but a record of how things were.....Bob
Great video.i grew up down the gors estate (heol y llan) miss living in burry.great memories
Thanks Dylan, are you Jennifer and Chris's Son?. My parents lived in No7 at the bottom of Heol Y Llan.
@@robmasterman yes that's right. I knew Mr and Mrs Masterman really well...lovely people
@@dylanjames5502 Thanks Dylan, that's kind of you to say so.
Even had a windmill there back in 89 , looks like some big fish caught there , I take it the Power Station has gone now , nice bay for boating
It was the first windmill in the UK Dave, the power station was finally demolished in 1992, and it's still a great area for fishing...Bob
Great clip, nostalgic as you say Bob. I don't think I have seen the 3 chimney power station since back in the day, when I may have passed by train. If I remember correctly it underwent demolition in 1991
They finished the demolition in 1992 Justin....Thanks again for taking the trouble to watch...Bob
A lovely nostalgic film Bob. I thought the quality was excellent for 8mm. The power station looked a very impressive structure
Thanks Austin, this has gone from 8mm video to HVS Tape,to DVD to computer...lucky there's any image left to see....Best wishes...Bob
Robert Masterman This shows how good you really are behind the camera Bob...25 years ago you knew then exactly what you were doing and how it should be done, great stuff... Regards John
It was interesting to see the activity going on in the harbour. Sad that it is going downhill due to neglect of the harbour by the authorities. Still a n ice walk along the waterfront though.
The biggest mistake was putting the lock gates at the Harbour mouth Paul, as years ago, the twice daily tide washed out the debris, and vessels could enter or leave the Harbour when the tides were high enough. The whole Town is much worse than it was a few years ago, with the wonderful floral displays. Thanks for your comments.
very nice Bob,I remember the old power station there, is it still standing?
No David it was pulled down in 1992 .... such an iconic building in the Town...Bob
yesit was good to watch
Thank you Jon, content over quality on this one...Bob
Very nice Bob - I can feel that sea breeze, it did look a bit fresh - I wonder if they still catch fish that big now.
Cheers, Bob.
Not the best quality Bob, but of interest I hope....there has always been good catches of fish around this coast...Bob
@@robmasterman that depends on the time of the year, so far Pwll is the current hot spot
brings back a lot of memories, it's a shame that the harbour is in the crap state it's in now
I totally agree, and hopefully, the Harbour will be cleaned up in the near future.
Beautiful harbour back in the day. Now it's an absolute mess.
Totally agree with you, it's such a shame, as this was once the pride of Burry Port. Thanks for your comment.
@@robmasterman have you got any footage of the power station being demolished mate?
This is how the harbour should be full of boats , Not like now frickin shit 👎
We need a time machine Kevin, this was when it was at its best.
