A couple of years ago, I heard Victrola and Crosley were pivoting to market to audiophiles. That explains the improvements on their turntable within the last few years.

Just got this the other day, my first ever turntable and it’s great. I’ve read a lot of bad things about this brand but this table specifically is great for what I wanted out of it. Only complaint is the dust guard is a fingerprint magnet lol

Thanks for this review! My super cheap entry level turntable finally kicked the bucket & I'm looking to upgrade for my next one. Still can't afford a mid-level, but this seemed like a viable option within my price range! Appreciate how thorough you were, it definitely helped me better assess this turntable!

Friendly reminder to all - anti- skate will not work correctly if the turntable is NOT COMPLETELY LEVEL in the first place, especially on anything 2-4 grams. So this result may not be accurate. Level surface first! Cheers, great vid !!

Speaking of fully automatic turntables i recently got a sharp stereo system with an fully automatic liner tracking auto reverse turntable. So it will play side one of a record and then automatically play side 2. Its currently broken as its 40 years old but i have confidence i can get the old sharp working again.

Honestly, I'm pretty impressed! Yeah, plastic plinth isn't ideal probably, and the lack of anti-skate ain't great... but it sounded great when you were playing the direct feed, functions all worked well... This is one I might consider if I were in the market!

I have the LP 60. I enjoy it. It's convenient because it will return the the tonearm and shut off after the record is done playing automatically. I usually place the tonearm on the record by hand. But not always. I've been playing vinyl since the late 1960's.

The LP60, great turntable. I have the X Bluetooth version. Have you ever upgraded the conical stylus to an elliptical? It's a good change to make on the 60, and also swapping out the felt mat for an acrylic takes things up a few notches too.

Does anyone remember Fisher? In the early 80’s I had an M21 linear tracking system, I loved that little system. At one point they had a great reputation, and by the late 80’s they were cheap crap. They tried to reinvent themselves like Victrola and Crosley are now. But they waited too long and by the 90’s they were gone. Victrola and Crosley seem to have their ear to the ground, and when ever there’s an untapped market they jump on it. It seems to be working well for them.

Seems alright. They cheapened out with no antiskating, but really, how would the average beginner even know? The fully electronic auto return and lift system is a neat feature. We need more semi-autos/auto turntables, especially in the mid-fi or higher end of the market.

Pretty impressed with the sound quality and for the price tough to beat .. as far as Victrola going upmarket, i hope they do well, it's hard to go up market vs a company producing down Market products. The "audiophile"crowd will take a lot of convincing, since they'll always think of Victrola and Crosley as the suitcase companies.... But Victrola played it smart imho they went after the Sonos Crowd.. good luck to them. Great video as always and Merry Christmas.

Yeah, nice new turntable. It's got Record-ology's approval so all's good there. Is this a substitute for say, the LP60X for example? I don't really think so, personally, but this is still OK. Pretty good in fact. I wouldn't replace the LP60X for this, but this would still be substantial enough to go alongside it perhaps as a secondary turntable at home.

I can't decide between the three automatic turntables which one I want. But I do like the feature on the victrola the repeat button is interesting so when it gets to the end of the record it will pick the needle up and play the record again which I don't know why you'd want something like that. I guess for a party like a Christmas time or something.

I just bought this model! I’m new to vinyl and I am a bit concerned about how this player is going to treat my records over multiple plays. Is this concern warranted? I have a couple of pricey records and I don’t want them to get scuffed after a couple of plays.

    • @subjectdelta44
      @subjectdelta44 7 днів тому

I'm by no means an expert, but to my understanding, nothing specific to this turntable should be damaging your records. What you need to worry about the most is dust/debris on your record and how frequently you play it. Other factors that are frequently cited as causing damage - stylus, tracking force, anti-skate, etc.) are far less important/worrisome when it comes to damage protection.
Since this turntable does have a lid that will completely cover the record, simply keeping the lid closed while playing immediately protects your record from the largest danger to it - debris. You will hear a lot of audiophiles arguing that you need to keep the lid open or take the lid off to prevent the sound reverberating if shut... this effect doesn't seem to really exist, and if you test for it, leaving the lid open actually has the worst effect on sound, so do with that what you will. But protecting it from dust/debris is crucial, so the lid is probably your friend. That's actually a huge reason why I got interested in this turntable specifically - a lot of Victrola's newer high-end entry turntables have lids, but they aren't large enough to cover the entire record, and a few slices of it will still be rotating in open air. I have a cat. I don't need the airborne cat fur to inevitably land on those small exposed slits!
When it comes to the frequency of playing a record, you should really only play it once per day and then give it to the next day to let the vinyl relax. Playing it back-to-back without giving it time off is actually far more damaging to it than your choice of stylus (another thing audiophiles might protest, but again, their claims don't hold up when tested). While played, the vinyl does get physically stressed. The effect is infinitesimal under once a day use, but repeat plays without a rest will escalate the stress on the material and lead to more damage. Mind you, it's not necessarily fatal for your record, but best to baby it and give it a break instead of using the repeat function on this machine (which would be the one small exception to my claim that "nothing specific about this turntable should damage your record". That's true as long as you don't use the repeat button, or at least only rarely use it. Going crazy with the repeat button could do some harm).
The other factors are all much less significant in terms of damage, but this turntable still checks most of those boxes anyways. What you'll find everywhere online is that the red ceramic styli that come with most entry level turntables (think the cheap suitcase players) is horrible for your records, and you should avoid it at all cost. This turntable already comes equipped with a much better one, so you don't even need to worry about it - but it's also worth noting that playing a record with dust/debris on it or repeatedly playing the same one back to back, with a GOOD stylus like this one, will still do much more damage than the red ceramic could possibly do to a clean record only played once that day. To be honest, the red ceramics are unlikely to cause any noticeable harm to your record in a "lifetime" (approx. 50 plays) use, assuming that you follow the above recommendations and make sure there's no debris and you give the record time off. But it's still nice to have a better stylus, even if it's not necessarily much safer, as it will sound much better :) The tracking force can be important - too heavy and it will add extra stress to the vinyl as it's being played, which could damage it (too light will cause skipping as it plays). The 3.11 he measured here should be totally fine, that's not that heavy compared to most other entry level machines. And the anti-skate, as he mentioned in the video, can also play a role - if there's no anti-skate and the stylus tries to drift inwards, it won't lie directly in the center of the groove, which could impair sound quality and/or cause some damage. However, unless I'm mistaken, this is closely tied into the tracking force. Here, since it's not got that much downward pressure, even no anti-skate is likely to be fine/safe for your records. It's also worth noting that another commenter on this video mentioned that you cannot test anti-skate until you make sure that the entire turntable/platter/record is totally flat. If it's not on an even surface, anti-skate won't work properly, even on machines that have it. I checked the product info for this turntable, and it _is_ built to have anti-skate, so I suspect the turntable wasn't quite level when this review was filmed. Either way, nothing to really worry about here anyways!
Hope this helped some! If you want to know more information or watch someone actually test the claims like "ceramic cartridges will ruin your records" or "playing with the dust cover/lid down will make the sound quality worse" etc. I highly recommend VWestlife on UA-cam. He did a great test of different styli and convinced me that my own paranoia about ceramic cartridges was ultimately unfounded! Which was nice, because I've been using a cheap player with a ceramic stylus for the last 3 years (it's all I could afford 😭) and have been getting increasingly more paranoid about the "damage" I was supposedly doing to my records in that time frame. Nice to know those fears were overblown! :) & I hope you're enjoying the turntable! I think I'll spring for this model myself once I've saved up a little more (my cheap one finally broke. to be frank I was so worried about it damaging my records & annoyed by how awful it sounded that I'm relieved I have an excuse to upgrade now)

Thank you to Record-o-logy for making my weekend fun with starting a review, first I like the way this TT looks it reminds me of the sony automatic turntable the tone arm knid of reminds me of it ,at first since the box looked smaller than the crosley brand I thought it was going to be a small cheapy TT but It looks great to me the price is a good deal to me like I said with the crosley model the tone arm works just like my onkyo cp-1055f2 tt from 1985 ,its great to know that even though audiofools do not like the automatic TT cause they say it takes away the record player experience what world do they live in you go up to TT open dust cover place record onto platter you can cue it yourself or use the auto function ,I mean what more do you want your playing arecord to hear music not getting jollies from handling the tone arm thats weird ,to me there is nothing wrong with using an automatic turntable it places tonearm correctly every time no chance of messing up stylus so thanks again to recordology this channel is my number 1 channel to watch and start my weekend looking forward to the next vid JRo
