- Watch as we sell 3 proper antiques in auction. Can you predict their selling price? See if your valuations match the actual auction sale price! Anything can happen in auction and here’s the proof!
We’ll show you lot number 1 which is a WWII collection of medals, including photographs and letters from Buckingham Palace. Auction estimate £1000 - £2000
Lot number 2 is a large collection of stamps from 1840 with the Penny Black (The worlds first stamp) to 1921 and covers the whole world, including the Cape Triangle stamps.
From a collector who does on the 1950’s, so this is the first time this stamp collection has been on the market. Auction estimate £750 - £1000
Lot number 3 is an 19th century Chinese plate, painted in the western style, with an estimate of £300 - £400
Take a good look at each antique, hear the auction estimate and then watch as the items are sold live in the auction…the results may surprise you!
I’m David Harper and with my colleague David Elstob, we’ll introduce you to the real world of antiques auctions - Let us know how close your valuations were to the final auction hammer prices!
If you have an interesting antique for me to feature on my channel, or you’d like us to sell your antiques in auction (and of course film it) get in touch!

Dear David and David, wow cool stuff. Thanks for letting us hang out with you cats at Elstob and Elstob! One of these days I'm swimming over to visit. Much luv from Colorado
brilliant you learn every day🥰🥰🥰
Excellent vid there David 👍
Great video, David! I enjoyed the information about the items and the bidding... Thought the medals would have got a bit more.
Enjoyed the video David. I was off on the third one.
Those medals were lovely, full information with them and all. It's a crying shame that the family was either gone or didn't want them. Not sure where they'd go here, but 1200 seems cheap considering what was paid for them originally. Stamps other than rarities here are dead in the water, or were. These ought to beat their estimate by a fair bit...which they did. (bet in the 80s they'd have gone double the sale price in the episode!) The album itself has to be 50 quid empty. The plate... 325 or so, but... high end of the estimate instead. Oh well.
Lucky guess and was only £50 over with my estimate for the stamp album.
I remember buying stamps when I was younger, I didn't really have a clue which were worth anything
Great video I have some stamps which I would like to have some advise on ,,,what can I do David ,thank you 😀 😉 😊
If you send info to Trevor at Elstob & Elstob (contact in description)
Surprised David E is not wearing gloves as he is pawing over the photos! Shocking really.
I've never been to an auction so I can only take a guess
£800 out, but I didn't put the commissary on
Out by a £100, not too bad if I include the buyers premium
Wow £2600
£500 for the plate
Auction fees vary from room to room, plus how much is the VAT, it's a bit confusing
Auction fees vary 15 - 20 % is normal plus vat at 20% on the fee. Some auctions however are well into the 30’s % !
@@DavidHarperAntiquesTV I wasn't sure about the rate of VAT, on Dickinsons real deal he would tell you how much commission and vat but they never told you on Flog it, thanks for the info
Medals, they will sell for 2300£
Very cheap.
I like how David Elstob stransforms into David while sitting down to talk about stamps 😁
Are David Elstobs trousers timberland? I have some timberlands in that coral colour.
You revealed the stamps price before I was ready, I'd have said about 1500£
I'd be surprised if that plate doesn't make 600£
£2000
Gross that medals can be sold.
