    Have you heard the tales about how the maker purposely puts a mistake in their work…I always say it’s to let the fairies out, but it’s in cultures all over the world! That’s all that’s going on in your cozy memories blanket. It’s full of love and joy and that’s all that matters. My almost 2 year old was listening and keeps saying bug bug bug after hearing your story about your son haha love it!

    The Dartmoor is beautiful :). Thanks for showing the close up details. Your knitting is beautiful :) And, the color looks awesome on you! I haven't made a cozy memories blanket, but I'm planning to knit your Sweet Shoppe blanket! What a great idea to include yarn from places you have visited in addition to projects you've made. LOVE this inspiration although I've not yet ever collected any yarn from my travels. I've been to Bath once and it was LOVELY :).... How I'd love to go back, but there are so many places to visit so I don't know if I'll make it back there or not, but I loved my time there!

    There is a spa near me in the Carmel Valley called the Retreat. The best thing is- no talking. Bring your knitting or a book and hang out by the pool. I did an entire boucle sweater (Pierrot) this summer with vintage yarn. It was very hard to get even ribbing, but the rest of the plain knit was nice and not too difficult to get an even tension.

    I heard you got some crap for talking about dentistry stuff on here, but I'm really grateful that you did! I genuinely would have put off booking a dentist appointment for life if you hadn't mentioned it, but I thought - if Laura can do it, I can do it. Much gratitude 😅

      I 100% feel you! My teeth have been a problem for me for so long, and I felt a lot of shame about them too but being able to talk about it and share that I even have a filling in the first place is a huge thing for me! Go see that dentist, it is ALWAYS worth it, and let them know how you feel too. My hygienist was so calm and gentle with me, I have zero anxiety about doin back again! X

    Since the time I have seen the clue one, the Dilophosaurus scene is all I could think of. You are the only other person I have heard put it out there. It looks stunning but that Jurassic vibe is unmistakable for a 90s kid. By the way, your pullover looks stunning. You look radiant in your exquisite craftsmanship. I loved the blanket stories. Keep such emotions coming. I wish you and your family a very best Deepavali greetings, may this joyous time bring you bounties of good fortune. Cheers. 😊

    Laura thank you for keeping me company whilst I finish knitting a little ghost stuffed toy for my gorgeous three year old grandson.You getting emotional about your knitted blanket made me laugh and cry. I remember so well snuggling under one of my crochet blankets with my two young teenage kids.We would have the popcorn ready (popped in the pan on the stove) and be ready to settle down for the latest "Friends" episode we watched them all more or less together. Such wonderful memories that I treasure. Now my little grandson snuggles with me as I read to him, or we watch Paw Patrol orAndys dinosaur adventures.:)

Two favorites are your blanket (the yarn choice and the story behind it) and your Twists & Turns shawl. Yours is the prettiest I’ve seen so far. AND you look especially beautiful today (inside & out)….your effervescence, Hair, make up, as well as how great the color of that sweater is on you. Ooooh loved the setting for this podcast episode Laura! So cozy and yarny 😍 I’m also a huge fan of mushroom brown and your Dartmoor Sweater reminds me that I have the very early beginnings of a Jiji Cardi in the same colour that I should get back to soon! 😅 I’m not an MKAL person, but yours looks lovely - the low contrast is really nice to the eye compared to the really shockingly contrasted ones I’ve seen so far. Personally, the gold speaks to me as the accent colour, but you choose whatever you like best! ❤

    Incredible episode, your sweater is stunning and I loved seeing your progress on the MKAL. I bought a kit for the MKAL but it arrived a week after the MKAL had started so I decided rather than trying to play catchup Im going to wait and see how I feel about the finished piece since I was worried itd be too wild and crazy for me 😆. I love your colors tho and my kit is more subtle so it could look more like yours, which I love. Thanks also for sharing your thoughts about the Zara collab and the difficulty of talking about social issues, politics, etc. I relate to how stressful that is - I think its part of my autism that it can feel almost like those conversations are so stressful that they trigger some of my CPSTD. At the same time when it comes to things that can affect justice I often feel like not learning how to have healthy respectful conversations about tough issues by default tends to uphold the status quo and its unjust practices. So its also extremely stressful to me when I avoid engaging in something I care about. But I need to be extra careful about advocating/speaking into the issue in a way that is careful of my unique mental health needs. I think you modeled beautifully speaking about a complex, tough issue while caring for yourself. I resonate with what youre saying. I feel like the collab and their lack of self awareness/acknowledgment of any issues working with a company with unjust practices or really interacting at all with those hurt by their decision just made me lose faith in the company and question whether their supposed commitment to fair labor practices was just a marketing strategy. But I agree entirely that times are tough and its almost impossible to afford only products from entirely ethical companies. Thanks again for your thoughtful and nuanced reflection.

      Thank you for your lovely comment! I was so nervous to talk about it but I’m glad I did, and glad I waited until I had ordered my own thoughts on it because that can take a really long time! Thank you for sharing your feeling and experience too! Xxx

    Rowan Alpaca Classic goes a long way. A fitted stocking stitch sweater uses about 10 balls. Have you heard of Colourway, they offer 20% off Rowan yarns all year round - £5.24 per ball for alpaca classic

    A lovely episode again. I am curious and maybe you have said this somewhere in your knitting vlogs, but you do like to add a mohair or similar alongside your main yarn and I am intrigued as to what your reasons are? I like the idea so would like to try this. If it’s an Aran pattern, would you still use an Aran weight then a fingering mohair?

    • @_laurapenrose_
      @_laurapenrose_  Рік тому +1

      I add mohair because I like the softness and fluffiness it can bring to a garment. It can also change the colour of the garment which can be really fun to experiment with. If it was an aran pattern you’d likely want to use a dk or worsted with a mohair, most of which are lace weight but you can get heavier ones so read your labels. Not all yarns are created equal though so always swatch, and specially if holding multiple strands as you never really know what you’re going to get! X

    Hi Laura, love your memory blanket, I have tried it with sock yarn, but did not like it so much, but I love yours, you said cast on 18 stitches on each side, I get that but can you tell me how you did the decreases, I like the look of yours, thanks, love your podcast as usual

      Just place a stitch maker between the two sides, so 18 stitches either side then every right ride row knit to 2 sts before the M, k2tog, slip marker, SSK, knit to end then just knit the wrong side! Xx

    Good for you not talking about politics publicly and not supporting cancel culture. I miss the time when this was the norm. I'm not certain that every controversy is actually politics but I miss this time when people in general did not soeak about politics, religion, and sex in public and controversy was kept to appropriate settings. I work as a job coach and I still to this day teach my clients that these topics don't belong at work. We are here to work.

    Hi Quick query! Just found your podcast and love it. But it’s raised a question with a knit I’m about to do.
    So I’ve got rowan cotton glace and i have heard mentioned that you can add a strand of rowan kidsilk for softness and do the same pattern that it won’t change the yarn make up cos it’s so fine.
    But in your podcast you say adding this will change fingering up to dk. So I’m in a quandry now. Do I do my original cotton gglace pattern or do I change to a 4mm dk knit. And by the way I’ve purchased drops kidsilk to use cos it’s cheaper.
    Would appreciate your thoughts. Ta x💕

      @_laurapenrose_  Рік тому +1

      So fingering plus mohair doesn’t always make a dk, as it completely depends on the yarn and the knitter. The only way you can be sure your combination will work is to knit a swatch! X

    Be very careful of putting your emotional attachment to a project onto the expectations of how others will feel about it. My mother passed away two years ago and one thing my brothers and I have discovered in going through her things is that we each have our own ties to certain objects. It isn’t always rational and it is different for all of us and doesn’t necessarily align with what my mom wanted us to feel. When she was alive she would tell us that something was important and we should cherish it from our childhood. We cherished things, but not always what she thought. I have fond memories of my kids when they were growing up and quite often it means nothing to them but something else that I thought was trivial meant everything to them.
