Great review. The fit is better, but Unique Melody also changed the bone conduction driver. The MKII has a new double-sided driver with full frequency response, as compared to the 1st generation which had a single-sided driver with partial frequency response.
I've pretty much have bought three endgame products that I am very quite happy with; Focal Clear, KLH Model 5 speakers, and soon the Unique Melody Mest MKII. But I still need to get a pair of planar cans.

Just got these from Musiktek yesterday based primarily on this review, and they are AMAZING. My current IEMs (what I am coming from) are Fiio FH7s, Roxannes, UE18s, UERMs, Tin P1s, a few KXs, Blon-bl-03 primarily. I haven't A/Bed yet, but my favs were previously FH7s and P1s. Running from ADI-2 DAC FS, also balanced from Fiio M11+ LTD, same taste in music. Most reviewers don't make this decision as clear (some say BUY EVERYTHING, ALL AWESOME, others less aggressive but still very hesitant to say "this set is GOAT", but this channel... my OCD LOVES this tier chart, and the very clear guidance just for this pair of IEMs, saved me months of analysis paralysis. I agreed with the rankings of others that I have experience with, good enough for me to trust in "the list".
Since I got into this hobby almost 15 years ago, UM has always been one of those universally lauded brands. I haven't owned one before, but I definitely plan to get myself one.
@BGGAR think I asked this in a reply. What do you rec for a portable USB-C DAC amp for android? Obviously the MESTs are super sensitive, so have you found a portable one great for low impedance?
Oh man, I bet these sound amazing time to save up. Glad you're keeping both sides going with the earphones and bringing in the headphones. I hope you get a chance to try some Modhouse Argons, and some of the vintage Denon AH-D series. I think everyone was confused on MEST 1 because they loved the mids and treble, but didn’t see it come up in the spectrogram well.

I realize you may still be on the euphoria of this new mest mk2, but once ready, Please try a comparison with the "Rhapsodio Infinity MK2", which I found to be larger in depth than the first mest you recommended. I found it to be closest to my hd800. And thanks for the review, your really the best reviewer I seen for iems.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviewsyes at first listen I was fooled into thinking they used Electrostatic drivers, as most of the expensive IEMs do. My friend showed them to me, without me knowing what they were. A sort of blind test of lol. But later looking them up online I was surprised of the multiple driver implementation. I still don't understand how so many iems use so many multiple drivers, even the mest bone conduction, but whatever works.
Man I got a set of these and so far they suck! I'm only playing them off my phone until my dap comes in but compared to the Variations on the same phone, the Variations smokes it. Way more slam, soundstage, clarity, imaging, etc. The only thing better on the mest is how smooth it is. Maybe the MEST needs more power? I dunno but this is the worst 1500 I've ever spent on iems so far. Still have some testing to do but it ain't looking good right now. 😉 Everyone's tastes are different. Anywho thanks for everything you do HBB. For real 👍
So did I, received it yesterday. Don’t fret, the MKi is still awesome value for the money and gives you a good understanding of what MESTs are capable of. Ill gather experience with my MKi universal (sources, tips, music) and will get the MKii custom as my final endgame in 6 months.
Same. And I love it. But fit has been tricky and that's one thing they address with the II. Would definitely have held off to at least compare the two. But I doubt there's THAT much difference between the two and if you're happy with the 1, it's a hell of a good IEM. What tips you on? I'm using the exelastec.
These jewels are stunning, I can’t believe how Mest Mk2 sounds after 10hours paired with my Shanling M8, I can say they are cheap for what they do, I’m really impressed 🤩🤩🤩 Did you hear something can compete with Mest MK2 under 2500$?
Thank you so much for the review, finally, after trying this set on event PAPI Jakarta, I got this beautifully designed and best-sounding IEM I ever buy. Maybe if I got more money in the future I will make this for custom.
„MEST block out the world“ - so true, wouldve said the same. I like how you structure experience into concepts. Atl for me, they are instantly recognizable. Same with „weight to the note“ - its a genius concept, encompassing a lot of what makes sound enjoyable (again atl for me).
Hello again Amazing Audio Amigo, To refresh your memory, I am the individual that went and bought the original MEST Soley on your great recommendation of them and I never regretted it. I just went and purchased the MEST mkii and I did a minimal 50-hour break in. I can't get any strong bass and I know there is a Dynamic Driver in there. Have you ever heard of anybody with the MEST or MEST mkii that this no bass issue has occurred? My buddy over at Musicteck is going to have a hard time believing this one. I'm also had the same debate between the two on HIFIguides, but I've decided to go with MKll. Thanks nymz and Resolution. Ask yourself, Do you want an all rounder or something that does something special? All arounder, I'd pick the MKll. Something special, go for the Xenns. Both are very well tuned. For my library, I want something that help me enjoy the vocals and instruments carried out in the mids. Resolution and nymz gave me great information on both. Xenns has fun bass that may or may not bleed into the mids, but do have something special about them. Hope this helps.
@@GuavaJuiceBane thanks man. I have already bought the Empire Ears Valkyrie MKII they are incoming... And I will buy the MEST MKII as my arounder thanks :)
I just bought the international version MK1 15 days ago and wasn't aware of the new ones - although I got it for 15% discount but feel been wronged for not having a choice. I can still return these or try to sell these. Would you say the new ones with better bass, mids and fit are big enough of a difference to go through with this hectic process and possibly loss of a couple $100?? Thank you in advance. I think this will help many people like me in the same boat!
If it's the Intl version and the hit/loss is $100 I'd switch. If it's the JP version I would still switch but that's a much more cautious rec. This is close to JP with special mids. I honestly never got a decent fit with the standard international version
I run my Mest Mk1 from iBasso DX220. EDM is amazing. Great bass presence and slam without being bloated. Wonderfully spacious and layered. I've enjoyed trance, dnb, mainstream dance music, techno, ambient/chillout - all have sounded fantastic. Tip rolling is the key to the Mest.
Awesome with EDM, Hip Hop, Electronic but also on voices and ti be honest I didn’t find something wrong on MK2. Really love them also about of the box😍
I have always wondered if earphones sound better than headphones. What is your take on how the MEST stack up to your big name headphones? Do suffer in any areas you can identify or are they better?
I am also interested how the MEST compares to headphones in the same prince range! Would be an amazing video. Are there any good closed back headphones that are not significantly worse then the open back ones?
I have the Sennheiser ie 600, is it worth upgrading to mest mk2? i like the Sennheiser with swapped tips. but im wondering how much of a difference will be there in terms of soundstage and imaging between the 2?
Would be great to compare Lokahi, Softears RSV RS5 and this. Different price range but all very good sets. I would really like to see review of the softears.
If you can hanlde some brightness then Arya wins. If you are too sensitive to that upper region and require more smoothness and no sibilance then go for the Mest
I’ve been using the azla tips on my Mest MK2, absolutely love their fit. However I noticed after about 5 months the center nozzle gets stretched out of shape and easily falls off. I’m onto my second pair now. Any tips to keep them holding their shape? I tried submerging in hot water and no luck

Man, I love Unique Melody. I A/B'ed their Mentor V3 against the Anole VX about two years ago and was hallucinating on the Mentors - they were that good. The Anole... not so much. Both are "take your breath away" IEMs but the Mentor was moreso. Even against the Z1R, I still prefered the Mentors, and thought of them as an end game once I got around to them. The big issue is that they're big, they're expensive, and they use a proprietary cable. But it's looking like the MEST MkII might be right up my alley! Gotta wait a month or two for them to be available in China.
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews I bit the bullet and purchased from Music Teck, thanks for the recommendation he is amazing to deal with. They arrive in a couple of days!
I am in the same exact boat and been using FH7 for over 18 months and now looking to the next level up. I am torn between MEST MK II, Clairvoyance and Andromeda 2020.
@@mrulesoul I have FH7 for less than a year and decided to enjoy them a while longer and took another path, bought a better cable from Fiio LC-RE which gave some details which I was missing sometimes and now I am pretty satisfied, going to invest in a better DAP first. Of course there are better IEMs but if you didn't hear them or use them and pretty much happy with what you got at the moment then you can have some peace time and save yourself some money. Sometimes what other experience and say can be completely different to you. One guy bought original Mest and declared that FH7 is better to him because of better dynamics, better bass, Mest was less engaging and more neutral he said. Of course it is just his opinion but you see there is a possibility that "better" stuff might not necessary suit you. Just ensure that you have an opportunity to test those other IEMs.
Excellent points. I am yet to find major issues with FH7 to move to the next set. I recently auditioned all of the Noble iem line in contrast to FH7, there are a few things that Khan and zephyr did better but in the end they did not convince me enough to give up FH7. Thanks for the LC-RE recommendation. I will give it a try. I currently use the 2.5 balanced fiio cable.

Alright, it's been 3 weeks, and they're absolutely amazing.
How does Rock sound? Disturbed, Tool, Rammstein, etc?
@@Spyplane2005 fucking awesome- especially guitars. i absolutely love how lifelike the distortion is
@@Spyplane2005 I listen to Radiohead, Zeppelin, Beatles, Pink Floyd and whole variety of other rock bands, and I can safely say they sound absolutely stellar on the Mest MKII. Listening to all Floyd's albums was like listening to them for the time ever. And I've legit never had that sorta experience before with any headphones or IEMs.
Thanks for your great reviews! I currently own the Uni. Odin & have the custom Mest MKII & A12t being made as I write this. I will put them all through your test tracks to see why the Mest MKII is your favorite. I will come back and tell you which one I prefer to use the most but I am excited about this bone conduction tech of the Best MKII. I have always been curious what program you are using for your music library. I looks like it is on a Mac as well?
How did you go with them? Did you enjoy them?
How did the testing go?
Lol. Its so interesting to see how things have changed for you and how you do your reviews. So cool.
Would you Rec your specific kinda lava set above or below mest mk 2 stock? I know there were issues with other kinds lavas but the one that was tuned to your preference- which is the better set?
Hope you get you hands on a pair of TRI Starlight 4 soon because I'm interested in then or the Dunu EST112. £355 vs £575 and 2EST vs 4EST +1 Carbon nano tube. I'd love a pair of Mest MKII but way beyond my pay grade at $1500+shipping +UK vat and import taxes.
I realize you may still be on the euphoria of this new mest mk2, but once ready,
Please try a comparison with the "Rhapsodio Infinity MK2", which I found to be larger in depth than the first mest you recommended. I found it to be closest to my hd800.
And thanks for the review, your really the best reviewer I seen for iems.
6BA for $3,300...I'll take a look.
Yet I see its obvious that for half the price, this " mest mkii " may be the best choice in that price range.
For real 👍
I literally just got the Unique Melody MEST mk1 :/
So did I, received it yesterday. Don’t fret, the MKi is still awesome value for the money and gives you a good understanding of what MESTs are capable of.
Ill gather experience with my MKi universal (sources, tips, music) and will get the MKii custom as my final endgame in 6 months.
Same. And I love it. But fit has been tricky and that's one thing they address with the II. Would definitely have held off to at least compare the two. But I doubt there's THAT much difference between the two and if you're happy with the 1, it's a hell of a good IEM. What tips you on? I'm using the exelastec.
You are killing me! I just got the original........
Enjoy. I am a fan of the UM quad brid sound. The MEST have 2 spots in my personal top ranking.

I even applied the ifi X-Bass to the mkii and received poor results. I have not heard of that issue. It has good bass (plenty of) just not basshead. Should do bass guitar and drum kits very well
can you pls do a review of the 1more triple driver and let us know how it stacks up against iems in the price below and above it
ive seen a lot of good reviews of it on youtube but it isnt the same case on the forums and subreddits i saw of people talking about it
Saw your post about reversing the mkii in your ears, having it make more contact. Can you expand on that?
Hi 👋
Best set between MKII and Xenns for EDM and for big sub bass and bass impact :)?
I must pick up one
Thanks in advance !

Yes, that was the intro
Any MEST owners? How does this do with EDM?
I'd also be using these partly with EDM and I'm sure it'd be more than fine
I run my Mest Mk1 from iBasso DX220. EDM is amazing. Great bass presence and slam without being bloated. Wonderfully spacious and layered. I've enjoyed trance, dnb, mainstream dance music, techno, ambient/chillout - all have sounded fantastic. Tip rolling is the key to the Mest.
Awesome with EDM, Hip Hop, Electronic but also on voices and ti be honest I didn’t find something wrong on MK2. Really love them also about of the box😍

The MEST are the only IEM I would even compare to headphones. It's a good idea to compare the + and the -
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews In the same price range what Headphone/Earphone would you go with?

what ear tip did you use?
Man, I love Unique Melody. I A/B'ed their Mentor V3 against the Anole VX about two years ago and was hallucinating on the Mentors - they were that good. The Anole... not so much. Both are "take your breath away" IEMs but the Mentor was moreso. Even against the Z1R, I still prefered the Mentors, and thought of them as an end game once I got around to them. The big issue is that they're big, they're expensive, and they use a proprietary cable.
But it's looking like the MEST MkII might be right up my alley! Gotta wait a month or two for them to be available in China.
The BC drivers in the quad brid are nailing my personal preference. Just amazing SQ. njoy my music a lot with em

I consider this to be a signifigant step up from FiiO's FH7
@@BadGuyGoodAudioReviews Thanks, keep up a good work!
Can't wait for the MKIII in a few months
