@jaime del salto Hi, thank you for watching! The hot tub is doing great. No major issues or movement. @@Red.Scapes thanks its impressive also i have winter here NJ. But how you handle water or pipe frezze i cant still figure it out. Caulk issue probably bc of chlorine in the water.. maybe change filter system
I agree. Chlorine is probably the culprit for the caulk failures. As far as pipes freezing, we keep the water level in the tub lower then the pipes so as to not have them full of water over the winter but still keep enough water in the tub to be over the ground level to help with the walls not pushing in from the freezing ground pressure.

The pool/spa, whatever you call it is amazing. You added all the right touches with the beautiful wood to the lighting. Hands down one of my favorite builds I've seen. It's perfection, and I'm so jealous of you all. Enjoy it because you deserve to. You all are so blessed. 🙂
Looks great! Interesting technique framing it in and using cement board. Curious to see how it holds up over time. Great project with the kids, teaching them work ethic is fantastic!
Nothing builds character like digging up this amount of dirt. Would love a discussion video where you explain the process. Maybe some info on what you used to heat the pool.
I admire the effort you put in on this project. A couple of things that will be helpful in the future: Before putting up the tile, do mesh and a layer of mud to make all the surfaces perfectly flat. You need 100% bonding of the tile and thin set for constant submersion. It’s pretty much impossible to get that without doing a aforementioned step. The only other thing I would have added would be a floor drain. Things settle, switching the filter to pull from the bottom from time to time makes life easy. Nice work!

Absolutely killer project for sure. Super jealous in all kinds of ways related to your space. I keep my kiddos involved as well. It’s a whole job unto itself. 😂 It must cost a fortune to keep that up to temp. We’ve got a tiny inflatable tub, which seems to cost 50-100 a month the keep warm. If I was you, I’d look for some used hot water solar collectors. People are going solar electricity only and stripping roofs of hot water collectors. You’d likely get them for free and it would save you a ton of money on electricity. You could even use them as a roof for your robes, etc...they’re traditionally 5’ x 10’. Might be able to source a smaller size as well...Congrats on getting those soaks in!
Thank you and thanks for the tip! I'll look into it for sure. We don't keep the water hot all the time though. It would cost a fortune, you're right. But I do need to harvest that sun energy, especially in the summer. Thanks for watching!

I'm looking at building some Airbnb cabins soon, and one of these will be the ultimate luxury finishing touch! thanks for all the info regarding parts, this is invaluable!!!!
With time anything can be DIY, good job taking that and running with it. Makes me happy to see someone's enjoying doing this kinda stuff with the drive and determination to follow it through all whilst saving money doing it. Even though I live in the middle of no where the county still requires licensed plumber, electrician, and contractor as well as a "reasonable time frame" and plans for a permit to even break ground for the project. So I just sit and live vicariously through others by watching then DIY thus stuff while I save up more money than need be necessary for my pool, hot tub, and garage.
The laborer is worthy of the reward and to do it with your boys is awesome. I pray that this hot tub will hold up until He returns in Jesus name amen! So inspirational brother thanks!!!
I think I would have rented a small backhoe for a few hours, but otherwise this is amazing. Amazing result, amazing lessons learned doing it DIY and working with the family to do it. If I didn't have a limestone slab 12 inches below the soil in my yard, I'd totally try this.
Not only was it worth watching 17:40 to see the finished product - it’s crazy beautiful and I LOVE the cover too - but the time FLEW BY and was interesting! Love seeing kids with work ethic. That is hard to find and they do a good job! What a cool family!
Not only are you building things but most importantly you're teaching your kids to not be lazy and be productive in life....is a win win for all !!by the way it came up amazing 👏🤝
I must say, your scientific method for projects is a lot like mine. Half the time I just go with number 5. You seem to actually finish projects though. If I told my wife we were building our own hot tub, she'd strangle me and show me the 4 other projects I've started and not completed. Well done sir.
I bet you can sure frost a cake after all that! Also, do one heck of a nice plaster job on a wall. This was so awesome to see. I had to slow it down! :)
Nice job, respect. I did something similar but bigger and simpler (since 2018). Round wooden fence and sandy bottom like a big barrel (5.5m diameter and 1.3-1.5m deep, half underground). And a PVC bowl from a standard Chinese frame pool is added inside. 30 cubic meters swimming space. Budget less than $1000 (including filter pump, lighting and wooden patio around the pool). Looks like yours, but round. Russian bombing was nearby, but the house and my pool were not hit, I'm happy. Hi from Kharkov, Ukraine.
Well done. Word of caution using your tile saw to make those “circle cuts”. Buy a diamond circle cutter or use an angle grinder. The lateral pressure on your arbor DESTROYS the main and slave bearing in the armature.
This is gorgeous. I have a spot where I'm planning a wood gassifier heated "desert hot spring" but current have all my funds and time tied up in debt repayment. 2 more years!
I was shaking my head so hard when I saw you put the wood construction into the deepest part of the pool with just that thin tarp, thinking about rot and leaks and all that. Until I saw that there are actually Cement boards - until now I have never known those things exist (I guess they're not that common here in Germany)! Suddenly everything made sense! Great build!
Great work! Although my favorite part of the video may have been playing "Name That Tune" with all the music you were playing while building this! Great taste in music!
@@davidvalens3337 don't know about forever but it will definitely be a very long time before anything happens. But I'm going based off what I know, I don't know about it being submerged in water and what the long term effects will be.
Great...until the ground shifts or heaves with frost. Hopefully you live where it doesn't freeze. Also your wood framing under the durrock will expand from moisture in the ground- and push up and crack all that tile over time...Great video. Excellent use of family in this project. Kudos!
Survived the first winter just fine (an it was empty most of the time). We're in zone 5b so very cold during winter time. Planning to keep the water warm/hot inside the tub at all times so that might help with the frost. Time will tell how well it will hold but my hunch is we won't have major issues. Just stumbled on your channel and we might be the same person. Video guy here but after my contractor bailed on me in the middle of a project on my first house ever I decided to learn myself. As spring has just started, I'm gearing up to tear the yard apart and landscape for the first time in what seems like years for this house. Probably won't be getting around to making a hottub YET but thanks to your video, I know now its not impossible for someone like me! I think I've been watching too much Thermae Romae Novae ;)
@@Red.Scapes Yeah! Theres tens of us! :p I actually am getting so excited for this project that I might just build one above water as a test with a shell for ponds as a temporary fixture to make sure I have the knowledge to fill it up, keep it hot, circulation, and draining. I really love that camplux set up. and I'm thinking if I get the big boy one (4.6 gpm) and maybe a refurbished little one (120 bucks!) to constantly circulate the water in and out to keep it hot. I recently got off a show called therme rome nova on netflix (an anime) and it put me into hyperdrive. Its about a roman bath designer, who slips or falls in water and comes out in modern japan. He freaks out about all the technology, but mostly about their bathing culture and how advanced it is. Its a fun lil show about how societies really love their bath culture and honestly, I wanna bring it to my yard! BTW, I think you have the best video out here since I've been looking for other videos too just to see how people are making them. One of your links to your smart plugs you used is 404 btw! Absolutely killer project for sure. Super jealous in all kinds of ways related to your space. I keep my kiddos involved as well. It’s a whole job unto itself. 😂
It must cost a fortune to keep that up to temp.
This is the way to live - cheerfully, positively, enjoying life, nature and native people.
Man, with some good DC Talk going in the background you're killing it.
I cant see how anyone can not be inspired by the video. I describe it as s fantastic idea turned into an amazing masterpiece. Im in Australia n inspired
Thank you for the kind words!
I felt obliged to comment. Im building tourist accommodation with a natural pool dam n watched a lot from the pond guy n never left a comment. Your design n construction n presentation was flawless.
Thank you, Matthew! I really appreciate it!
I'm super impressed that your boys helped as much as they did ... uncommon nowadays, great job parenting!!! I'm sure you are proud of them ❤
Thank you!
Yes, they are amazing kids! We are both very proud of them!
when i was a kid i had to get my dad to help me . lazy old man asked me to do everything . but he worked hard to bring home money .
My dad taught me a lot but nothing on this level at that age. Well played sir, well played :)
@@london_james thank you James!

I'm looking at building some Airbnb cabins soon, and one of these will be the ultimate luxury finishing touch! thanks for all the info regarding parts, this is invaluable!!!!
Perfect job. Obviously knows what he’s doing and takes time to do it right.
Great Job!!! Great Music in the beginning too!!! Nice to see families listening to Christian music these days!!!! A+++++
I agree with others... not only is your work top notch, i LOVE how you involved the kids!
Thanks for watching!
if you live in the middle of no where ...SCREW THE COUNTY AND THEIR GAMES
The laborer is worthy of the reward and to do it with your boys is awesome. I pray that this hot tub will hold up until He returns in Jesus name amen! So inspirational brother thanks!!!
amazing work.amazing garden. so much work. good parenting. well done!
Thank you for the nice words, and thanks for watching!
Thank you for the kind words!
1st time I've heard DC Talk in a diy video 😂. Great job btw
You recognized DC Talk. 👊 Made my day! 😉
My favorite band of all time, that's for sure!
Thanks for watching!
That's exactly what blew my mind as well!!!! Hahahhahaa and of course great job bud!!!
That funyard is great! ( there is nothing "back" about it). You guys know how to have a good time!
Thank you for watching!
When I see this I miss my family you are blessed thank you
Great build stood in the pond to eat his dinner what a guy! Grafter !!!!
Your kids are great workers.awesome to see
Glad to see your boys being a part of it with you. I wasn’t as close to my son. Regret it all the time
very cool! Your whole backyard is an Oasis!!! You just added another thing to my bucket list!!!
Thank you!
This is where family starts. Well done.
Nice job! Nothing better than a family project!
You’re the king, living the dream! Nothing better then building it with boys. Great backyard fellas
Loving the DC Talk in the background. Was my jam in 5th grade
Not only are you building things but most importantly you're teaching your kids to not be lazy and be productive in life....is a win win for all !!by the way it came up amazing 👏🤝
Who would give thumbs down to this 🤔This is very cool good job 👏🏻
Thank you!
@@Red.Scapes gud gob
I must say, your scientific method for projects is a lot like mine. Half the time I just go with number 5. You seem to actually finish projects though. If I told my wife we were building our own hot tub, she'd strangle me and show me the 4 other projects I've started and not completed. Well done sir.
Haha, let's not talk abou the ones I didn't finish 😅
Thanks for watching!
Love the music y’all had playing while you worked.

Awesome! 👊
Thanks for watching!
I bet you can sure frost a cake after all that! Also, do one heck of a nice plaster job on a wall. This was so awesome to see. I had to slow it down! :)
i love how your backyard just becomes forest
Thank you, Jonathan! We love that too!
Hi, that's cool! Thank you for watching! Praying for you all and hoping all that war nonsense ends sooner then later. God bless!
Thank you fpr watching! I'm sure one day you'll get to build that and enjoy it!
Thank you!
Great work! Although my favorite part of the video may have been playing "Name That Tune" with all the music you were playing while building this! Great taste in music!
Thank you for watching!
Now this an Oasis backyard! Great Job!
What a great Dad!! And creative at that!!
Awesome family /qualify time project .
Your creativity is awesome, beautiful back yard and great family as well...you are truly blessed.
Thank you for watching!
I was concerned that the cement board being wet all the time would fail but then I saw you put the waterproofing green gunk...well done!
So the waterproofing green gunk will keep all the water out forever?
Thanks for watching!
@@Red.Scapes I live in northern Canada, so we get -40C. I suspect that because you dug down about 4 feet (frost level) and you will keep warm water in it, that it will not heave. Good work!
I'm just in awe you got those boys to work like that. I have to force my 15 yo stepson outside to _play_ .
My teenage boys haven't gone outside in months!!
Love the music in the background God bless you and your family greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪
Be blessed!
Thank you for watching!
now a copper coil in the fire to heat the hot tub. amazing work
Love the DC Talk in the background
Great job! It was neat to see the family working together. Best hot tub I've seen.
Thank you!
Just stumbled on your channel and we might be the same person. Video guy here but after my contractor bailed on me in the middle of a project on my first house ever I decided to learn myself. Its just nice to get off the computer too and utilize your hands for some building! Not only that, but we share the motto of "more than one right way" and also just doing it yourself even if you arent a pro. You'll enjoy your product much more if you made it yourself!
Haha, glad you enjoyed the video and happy to hear there are more of myself out there ;)
@@Red.Scapes Yeah! OH and follow up question thats actually important... Do .... Do I need a permit for this kind of thing? I generally don't know where people fall on permits for a lil hot tub!
@@grahamulax good to hear :) Thanks for watching and good luck with yours! (as far as the permits go I cant advise. depends on your jurisdiction)
@@Red.Scapes thats the safe answer ;) (I totally get it) haha I appreciate the help and your comments and thank you!
@@grahamulax most jurisdictions have a "site disturbance permit" that is required if you're moving "x" amount (yards) of material.
Can you make a little video of the circulating system and lights, you did a fantastic job!
