Being a sports car guy I never thought I'd say I liked a hybrid so much, but this Sonata looks absolutely amazing. The customized gauges, running lights, ventilated seats; even the taillights. Pretty awesome for a hybrid.
Just bought a 2022 Sonata Hybrid Limited today. I was actually looking at the non-hybrid when I saw there was a hybrid on the lot. Gave it a test drive and instantly fell in love with it. The ride is a little smoother and "heavier" than the non-hybrid, giving it a more planted feel on the road, no doubt due to the extra weight and lower center of gravity as mentioned by Joe. The power is more than acceptable - I have a motorcycle for when I feel like being a hooligan. It's funny I didn't watch this video until after I bought the car but I have to agree so much with the analysis here: I also feel that styling of the hybrid is better than the non-hybrid. Sure, the panoramic sunroof really brightens up the interior, but the solar roof looks awesome and the front fascia just looks better to me. Also, the only difference for 2022 is the Limited gets the Smart Parking Assist and Dynamic Voice Recognition. I think the MSRP is really close to 2021, maybe just a little more.
@@johnv6806 Eh, I own the 2020 with the solar roof and I get close to 61mpg on the highway if I have great sun. The cars logic makes it much more willing to stay in ev mode when doing 70mph if the solar roof is fully activated. On cloudy days, my mpg drops to between 47 and 51 depending on the day. It is still amazing fuel economy and coming to a fully charged traction battery every day after it charges in the morning sun makes it so much nicer to do initial city driving to then get out on the highway and make better use of the hybrid drive train.

We've had our 21 Sonata Hybrid Limited in Oxford Blue for two weeks now and love it more every day. Before buying, we also tested the Camry and Accord hybrids in equivalent trims. The sonata was a smoother ride and when you add in the little extras like the 360 cam and solar roof, it was a no-brainer for us.
I drove a 2021 Sonata Hybrid as a loaner from the dealer and loved it! I drive a ‘17 base model, and the Hybrid is so smooth and luxurious (for its price). It also had surprising quickness and speed if you floor it. Getting 50 mpg is no joke. If I were in the market I’d consider it or even the Elantra. Biggest complaint was the noise of the electric motor at slow speeds, and transmission with paddles isn’t worth using. I’ll take the Veloster N over either!!!! Love the sonata, wanted the new limited when we were looking at a new car last year. But the car had just been out a short time and they wanted a high price for this car. Too bad, would have loved driving this car.
@@RaitisRides it would! It could be another “performance-based” version but they should give it more black accents or something to make it stand out, either way, Hyundai’s definitely killing it with this sedan💯
Yes, this Sonata Hybrid is better than the Camry Hybrid as it has a 6 spd transmission, that vastly improves the driving dynamics over a CVT as you pointed out. Looking forward to seeing this powertrain in the Tucson.
@Jas S You make it sound like Toyota is just perfect. I owned a 4Runner for 14 years, and across 100k miles, it needed 7 front brake jobs as the calipers keep rusting shut, a known issue with the vehicle. Toyota amazingly continued to use the same frozen calipers for the next decade or so on their new vehicles. Trust me, Toyota is hardly perfection.
@Jas S Most of Toyota is pretty full to me these days. If all you want is reliability they can be a decent choice, but their lack of optional engines, and low priority for driving dynamics leads me to look elsewhere for my vehicle purchases. I can only share my experience with Toyota, and whole the 4Runner has a stellar reputation for being bulletproof, I did not find that to be the case in my prolonged experience. While nothing is perfect, and I did not expect Toyota to fix my vehicle, that they continued to use faulty calipers for the next decade, with a well known problem, is inexcusable. More than once it compromised my vehicle's safety.
@Jas S The v6 hybrid is a much better power train than the 2.5 hybrid in the current Highlander. Toyota seems to not want have any performance other than the Supra these days. I'm a huge fan of Hyundai bold and unique styling these days. Good riddance to the "Toyota but cheaper" designs. Weird that Hyundai would put a DCT in the Elantra hybrid but a regular automatic in the Sonata hybrid. I love that DCT shift speed but hopefully it never breaks 😬 (unlike a traditional automatic there's no rebuilding it). I love the solar roof, too; I'd take that over a sunroof in a heartbeat. 2 miles of extra range per day is nothing to sneeze at considering the average US daily commute is 32 miles. Plus, after my sunroof draining issues in my '07 Corolla, I kinda hate them now (granted it took 13 years for the seals to start failing, but still: no sunroof, no sunroof drain problems). I do wish they'd give more control over the regenerative braking in these cars, though, like they have in the Ioniq.
While it's nice most people don't want to compromise, they want a car that will get good mileage but get up and go when they need it. That's where electric cars are winning.
