It's not too much of a distraction, if that is what you were worried about. But it does reaffirm that I will basically need a brand new computer if I want any hope of playing a VR game, lol.

Yes, unfortunately VR (on PC anyway) still requires a pretty beefy computer lol. The Meta Quest is a good option though to get your feet wet, and then when you do have a good PC, you can stream from it to your Quest headset like aFriendlyPest does
