You should check out Shirley Bassey's version live at Royal Albert Hall, she sings it a little different, but equally brilliant, she buries herself into the song, it's worth a watch anyway
Harry Nilsson's version of this song is so hauntingly beautiful. Other artists have done this song including Mariah Carey but her version to my ears is screechy and cannot hold a candle to this version. Nobody has sung this song better than Harry Nilsson. He made it his own.
Harry Nilsson is a singer songwriter who had his biggest success in the late 60's-70's. He has a lot of great songs such as "Everybody's Talkin'", "Me & My Arrow", "The Puppy Song", "The Moonbeam Song", "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City", "Jump Into The Fire", "Spaceman", "Coconut". Harry wrote the song "One" which was a big hit for Three Dog Night in 1969.
Without you. One of my all time favorites. Beautiful and a great reaction. . It has been covered by many artists. Written by Peter Ham of the group Badfinger and released in 1970. Harry Nilssin was the 1st to cover it in 1971 and Yes, Mariah Carey in 1993.
Thanks for this lovely reaction Sarah. Harry Nilsson was a such a treasure, he was a brilliant singer/songwriter. This is a heartbreaker of a song and it really showcased his creative genius. Unfortunately, Harry left us too early, he certainly had much more to contribute before his untimely passing at the age of 52 in 1994. Cheers from Ontario Canada!
This has always been my husband and my song! We started dating in 1971 and spent much of those first 4 years apart until we married in 1975. We have now been married for 48 years and still can’t live without each other!
When this came on the radio it was hard to ignore. It’s a song you have to stop what you’re doing and listen to it. Harry had a staggeringly powerful voice & could EMOTE! Tragic life too.
Hello Sarah, Seeing the way that this Song nearly moved You to Tears and Your voice cracking with Emotion as You say "I've never heard this Song Sung like this,in such a Personal Personal manner with so much Sadness in His Voice, its so Beautiful snd Sad at the Same Time" I was born in 1960 and remember when this Song came out. This Song grabs a Hold of You and Gets Under Your Skin! Your reaction moved Me to Tears, Grace and Peace, Ralph in CT
Sarah, I appreciate your heartfelt reactions and humanity. Harry Nilsson is one of my favourite singers and artists, glad you listened to this amazing song.
You can't make these sounds if they aren't inside you. The video flashes stills of Harry and he looks so non-descipt, so ordinary. Then he opens his mouth and these sounds of despair and lament come flooding out. What an extraordinary expression of sadness. It was all in my heart, but my heart couldn't sing it. Thank you Harry!
M. Carey just covered like so many, but Harry made it his own. Harry was also a composer for movies. He did all the music for Popeye (Robin Williams). RIP, Harry.
Love Harry Nilsson! He wrote most of his own songs, and had an incredible voice when younger. He had a wide range of styles to his writing. Some are pretty hilarious, like “Put the Lime in the Coconut”,l a video which is available on YT. You should check it out, and maybe even review it. “Without You”, was showcased in the movie, “Son of Dracula”, with him playing it on the piano. About the only good part of this movie, in which Ringo Starr plays Merlin the magician. Thanks for sharing.
Two guitarists from Badfinger wrote the song.. but it got buried in an album.. .. then this song again Harry didn't want to record it but didn't I would imagine just to fill out an album so he did it.... and he had reasonable success with it. But Harry and his 3 and a half octave range ... could sing anything.. he was amazing.
He also wrote the song " ONE" ,made popular by Three Dog Night and the theme song to the tv show " Courtship of Eddie's Father". He down fall was he never wanted to tour. He was great friends with all the Beatles especially John L.
Badfinger wrote the song and Nilsson stole it. Just a fact. However, I like Nilsson's version the best. Read the Story of Badfinger, talk about a Travesty and a Tragedy.
Harry didn’t steal it, he covered it. There is a HUGE difference. A cover is when you give the original author(s) credit, which Harry did. Stealing a song is when you do someone else’s song but give yourself credit for writing it, like Led Zeppelin did many times.
This was originally recorded by Badfinger but Harry Nilsson does the best version hands down.
You should check out Shirley Bassey's version live at Royal Albert Hall, she sings it a little different, but equally brilliant, she buries herself into the song, it's worth a watch anyway
I concur on that. Badfinger rocked it a little to much or fast.
This was a wonderful song in my generation and remains a wonderful song to this day. There has never been anything better than those days to me
Me neither. I miss those days.
Yes, such great music. The youth of today is really missing out if they never heard this music
"Youth is wasted on the young".
Mr Potter...
And not Harry.
Harry Nilsson's version of this song is so hauntingly beautiful. Other artists have done this song including Mariah Carey but her version to my ears is screechy and cannot hold a candle to this version. Nobody has sung this song better than Harry Nilsson. He made it his own.
Badfinger. they wrote it, it's their song. tragic group. read their story, listen to their songs.
I totally agree
No artist can never out do the ORIGINAL
Heart did a good version also
He was so sad. His childhood breaks my heart. His voice was angelic.
Was it? I know nothing of his past. A great friend of John and Ringo.

This isn't only for your reaction to this song, it's for the overall wonderful content you consistently have on your channel.
Wow! Thank you so much! 🙏🙂
@@SarahDengler It's not a lot, but you do deserve the extra support. Maybe I'll surprise you with a bigger amount next time!

I love Harry Nilsson. That is my favorite song by him. Moonbeam is my second favorite. He wrote some great music. ❤
I believe this was written by members of Bad Finger.
Written by Badfinger. Bought by Nilsson.

Fantastic!
I grew up with this song, it always made me cry.
I really like this sensitive girl.
Hands Down, one of the greatest voices ever.
This great tune was written by Pete Ham of Badfinger and Harry is incredible on this classic!!
Pete Ham and Tom Eveans. Don't leave him out. I believe it was Pete did the verses, and Tom came up with the chorus. Both met with sad endings. RIP.
Great song!! Have always loved it.
Badfinger members Pete Ham & Tom Evans wrote this beautiful song. Each later died by suicide.
Wonderful reaction to a super talented artist! Thank you for sharing your reaction.

Sarah, I appreciate your heartfelt reactions and humanity. Harry Nilsson is one of my favourite singers and artists, glad you listened to this amazing song.
What a song! What a voice! RIP Nilsson.
I always thought of this song as the most emotionally raw piece of music I have ever heard.
I loved your reaction! How can something be so beautiful and sad at the same time?!
One of my all time favourite songs. Still have a ‘45’ with Everybody’s talking on b side.
What a beautiful reaction. I love the way you always feel the music and have such sensitivity!
Your reaction to this great song was epic. Thank you Sarah for your brilliant reaction!!
M. Carey just covered like so many, but Harry made it his own. Harry was also a composer for movies. He did all the music for Popeye (Robin Williams). RIP, Harry.
Yes! Nilson was the first one I heard sing this song & love this song❤ And Mariah Carey sings it after hearing him when she was a little girl❤❤
For me this man was one of the most greatest singers ever lived
Qui❤🎉😅
Thanks!
Ohh Stan! Thank you!!!
Amo da sempre questa canzone.... è stupendo come la canta ...da brividi ❤️
Harry poured his heart out with this classic. RIP
Gotta love Harry!
Still as powerful and emotional now as it was in the 70s. I love that you respect the music and listen first.❤
Love Harry Nilsson! He wrote most of his own songs, and had an incredible voice when younger. He had a wide range of styles to his writing. Some are pretty hilarious, like “Put the Lime in the Coconut”,l a video which is available on YT. You should check it out, and maybe even review it.

Wonderful, Sarah. 😊 Love Harry Nilsson!
Love this song from when i was a kid. Im. 62 now. Timeless
Nice reaction ! The best version with Nilsson ( RIP ). Nilsson a good friend's John Lennon . From São Paulo - Brasil .
I believe the writer of this song, and the first to record it, was a member of the Welsh band named Badfinger.
Beautiful singer/songwriter who was much appreciated by his fellow rock stars.
I fell in love with this song when I first heard it. My mom would play it in the car...I was 6yrs old❤❤❤
Saludos lindo tema 😎✌️ excelente ❤
Harry nailed it.
Dern Sarah, without makeup you are a natural beauty and you're even more beautiful inside.
No one has done this song better then Nilsson he was second to no one
I wish modern songs could be like this. It got me through because it said everything I wanted to say
"Everybody's Talkin'" is one of the songs that defines the Hippy era, please do check it out.
back in the day when the music was good, took me back to my teens.
Two guitarists from Badfinger wrote the song.. but it got buried in an album.. .. then this song again Harry didn't want to record it but didn't I would imagine just to fill out an album so he did it.... and he had reasonable success with it. Oh, Harry. You had so much more to give and do. I'm so sorry you couldn't.
The two guys who wrote this had so much more to give and couldn't.
UN TEMAZO DE HARRY NILSON GRANDE ESTE TEMA ES UNO DE LOS MEJORES YA ES UN CLASICO EN TODO EL MUNDO
Qui! You are right !❤💟💙❤💟💙❤🎉😅
Try some songs from his old standards album, As Time Goes By! Great stuff Sarah!
It was also covered that song by Airsupply band on 1991.
Yes, it's rare when a cover is better than the original. But, here it is.
Yep!
Thank you Harry. You seeing with so much feelings. Thanks Harry😢
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Escuchala con los ojos cerrados y concentrate en las letras y veras como tu mente te enseña los recuerdos que mas olvidaste y
❤❤❤❤❤ Miriah does a cover of this too... yes he wrote this and sung it...
He didn't write this.
Ok.. well Badfinger did... my mistake
And now I am crying
he died in the Ninetees.......but his voice is still alive in his songs.....
Please do Jump into the fire by Harry
LOVVVVVVE this friggin song !!
But she has ZERO right to judge, critique this song !
The OG!
Like the song by The Eagles, You can't hide your lying eyes
❤❤❤❤❤😢😢😢❤
The two writers of the song,Pete Ham and Tom Evans, later committed suicide due to legal and financial issues.
my mistake. it was written by PETER HAMM AND TOM EVANS.....of the band BADFINGER
Both of who committed suicide a few years apart...
originally. penned by one Pete Ham of Badfinger...just sayin';)
Harry Nillison sings very emotional and baritone voice. Mariah Carey sings with a higher voice and emotional version.
Now contrast his amazing voice on this song with his song Coconuts. 😂 He had a good sense of humor I think.
I can't live without Christ ❕ 🤍🕊️
This is a hearbreaker from my generation😢.
this was written by Badfinger, a British group with a horribly tragic story. research them and their songs. listen to them
You should try Michael McDonald I keep forgetting.. he’s great!
How come you missed it for so long?
Like Glen Campbell, Harry knew a 'hit' when he heard it. But don't dismiss the Original version by Badfinger.
he wrote the song
Harry made this song his
He was a genius and John Lennon saw that and they became drunk buddies.
A new girl sings a pretty heavy song ua-cam.com/video/LjyquiQWF2M/v-deo.html
Love(d) this song from Harry since my youth, but Mariah destroyed it in the chorus, it hurts my ears!
Harry Nilsson is the original singer so u can't listen to other artist sing this song because they wouldn't do it justice
Have you ever heart Harry Chapin/ cats in the cradle? more tear jerking beautiful song** ua-cam.com/video/etundhQa724/v-deo.html
so true-his story is so sad too.
4 Al Gore Rhythm 😂
He wrote it and sang it. Mariah Carey did a cover.
He didn't.
he didn't. Pete Ham of Badfinger wrote it. check them out, and their songs
Haunting as it is this actually an original by the English band Badfinger. And BTE: Mariah Carey´s cover sucks. Big Time.
I always thought this was sung by a woman
I miss you Harry 😢
Badfinger wrote the song and Nilsson stole it. Just a fact. However, I like Nilsson's version the best. Read the Story of Badfinger, talk about a Travesty and a Tragedy.
