Because you are hockey sharpener, you have wrong type of machine and skate holder for figure skates. That is the only problem. If you really want to see worst figure skate blade design for sharpener point of view, try to sharpen Gold Seal Revolution blades. You have probably problems also with all side honed blades and parabolic figure skate blades which does not have aluminum frame.
At the rink I work, I refuse sharpening competition/professional figure skates. If I am asked; I refer to a figure skater coach at my rink who does sharpening to do them. I do not have the equipment or the skill do to competitive figure skates. I can do only hockey and recreational skates
For that reason, I salute you. I would keep asking for different services from you because you have the humility and honesty that I find lacking in almost all the skate techs around me.
it's one of the best idea tbh, though requiring the skate tech to have the right skill and machine in order to maintain the baldes, i think it worths it
I have these blades. Apparently the blade is not removable. As to why they made it look removable, I have no clue. I’m in London and all the skate shops refused to sharpen them because it’s such a pain. Had to get a different style blade.
Yikes. It makes me nervous that you would sharpen a complex blade like this. They have been out for years! Please read up, I’ve had a tech destroy my blades bc he had no clue what he was doing or which ROH to use…
These blades can cost up to 600$, and the legacy is NOT removable. Its permanent on this model. so it’s no joke! You should be using two rocker radius circles. One for the front (8ft), and the back has 27” radius… also the none skateable zone should be buffed out near the toe pic. I’m sure you know this tho…
Thanks for the feedback. I hear there a special jig for it. Like I said, I would not sharpen again. If the blade is so complex why put it on a cheap boot? What is the purpose of the design? As far as I am concerned, nothing to read up on. It's a gimmick.
@@YourLocalIceMan It's not a gimmick. The aluminum frame is far lighter than the steel that would otherwise be there. The entry level Matrix blade is not so expensive ($350), comparable to other intermediate level blades. Pairing them with an intermediate level boot makes sense.
Take the blade out and sharpen it. When I get a large skate (size 12 and above), if they are the removable type, just so the weight of the skate doesn't affect the perpendicularity of the blade.
Hey @Your Local Ice man if you went Electric ⚡️ would you buy or purchase the Zamboni model 450 or if you go propane a Zamboni 446 ? The Zamboni 400 models series are Canada 🇨🇦 best Zambonis
As a skate tech, they werent thinking. we dont sell any matrix blades aside from customer requests. there is a matrix holder but you cant use an HDI with it!! (plus having to buy a whole new holder for ONE type of advanced blade that you dont necessarily come across a ton ) always go with the Matrix RXS, they eliminated that problem by making the runner removable. idk why they still sell the matrix, or why they made the chassis different colours on only the Matrix.
Love the ice/Zamboni videos, super interesting and very helpful, our entire staff references them I work at IDAHO ICE WORLD in Boise, ID and was wondering if you ever come through Boise, ID? If so drop in and say hello
Yeah, I would think the easiest way to sharpen them would be to take them out of the holder to sharpen them rather then go though all that shit making those adjustments to the jig. But, if you broke a torx bit trying to loosen them, that would suck. Good lunch though.
Easton back when they made skates had a crazy carbon fiber holder that was a pain as well. The sent out a special jig to be able to sharpen them without removing blades. Just being a little pro shop though would have to just remove blades to get them done.
Please tell me I am missing something here.

Blademaster sell special holder for this... but i don’t want to buy it for 3 sharpening in the season

I made an attempt but the star bit broke off the tip. Just was not sure. Thank you perhaps next time I give it a second shot.

Ice Man, when will you put out more Ice maintenance videos ? I’ve learned so much from you and really enjoy your channel.
Thank you. Hopefully soon.
