Whats good everyone! I created this channel to share my experiences as a Zamboni Driver at an ice rink. Although the main focus will be on the ice Resurfacer (Zamboni) operation/maintenance and ice maintenance, we also have two indoor turf fields so I will cover what I do to maintain the fields and that side of the building.
I do realize my knowledge is limited due to the size, location, and how our rink is operated. Which is another reason I created this channel. So others can share how their rink operates so we all can learn and teach each other.

I was told after 6" the wheel was done but it looks like you took yours down to 4>
You should do a video on how to operate the Scoreboard on the Soccer side and ice side
Beautiful work! I could watch hockey restoration videos all day🙌👌
Thank you for this video! I’m coming from an IceBear to a Zamboni 540, and wow, it’s a learning experience. This video completely explains why the Zam has been so jumpy when I give it gas- because I have had that throttle all the way forward. Can’t wait to use this knowledge out for a smoother, more consistent drive!
Nice rank if your looking to open a roller skating rink we are looking to get one in Kewanee illinois Or if you know someone that is looking to build one from the ground up
looks like there was a little migration there what was the temp outside when this happened
What side to turn the wheel to higher?Or lower lower blade
Awesome these are being repaired instead of replacing with LED
this vide is aweome!
Great vid. Thx for your time.
thanks for all the content. I am looking to buy a piece of property and build an ice rink for our community and have been diving into everything it takes to run a rink. Your videos have been a lot of help. Thank you!
tomorrow first time with paper lines, always before with paint, thanks for this video, but there is no which marker you use for first circle marks... kind regards from Czech Republic🙋♂️
Soo i was at the arena in the next town over today doing propane training. Of course when i was done i went to talk turkey with their ice man, i comented how bright and wet the ice looked even tho it hadn't been done.. he told me they put 1 pump of floor soap(ph7 neural cleaner)in the wash water, thats what makes it look bright amd shiny. Does anyone else have any expertise with this tip?
where can we find rotor sealing?
Ive been doing this for years. For me its an easier cut than my right handed pattern I did for many years before switching. I only do one normal lap along the boards first and then up the middle.
Hiw often should this be done?
Watching this video was torture. My dad invented the paper and equipment to lay down the lines. If you want to see how it’s really done check out Gilkes Linemarking services
No, wash water has its benefits when used under heavy ice use. As soon as you put your conditioner down, making your turn towards the boards, turning your augers on as soon as the conditioner is down, adjust blade for depth, turn your flood and wash water on. Once you’ve reached the boards, turn your board brush on. If you start at the furthest blue line, count to 10, you should be at the corner, turn your pump on. If you start at Center or furthest blue line, turn your pump on once you’ve reached are out of the corner. Complete your flood, once you’ve reached are making your way to the machine room, turn your wash water off at the blue line closest to your machine room, let the pump suck up remaining water, there is enough prime left over from that distance. Once you’ve reached reach the threshold with your rear tires STOP the machine, idle down, pump off then lift your conditioner, DO NOT DRAG THE CONDITIONER ACROSS THRESHOLD. Once inside your machine room, leave machine idle and rinse your augers (after snow dump). Wash Water is always filled with COLD water.
The 500 series machines have the benefits of having a governor, meaning you can set the speed with the handle position just at the conditioner on the little decal (sticker) and you can press the pedal right down to,the ground and you will only do between 5 and 6 mph. 400 series units, there is a post below the pedal, if you raise that bolt, then you can only push the pedal down so far. Your speeds, from ass at blue to ass at blue should be between 7 and 9 seconds.
Have you ever painted and clear coated a tank? I thought it may work but never met anyone who has actually done it and have been curious about the results
Is that the model 546 with the Kubota motor?
After laying all lines, creases, face off circles everything, do you continuously spray it all with the huge sprayer, or ur little sprayer, then flood with zamboni after wards?
Dang I figured there was a tractor or Zamboni type of vehicle that would do most of that spraying for you. Hand spraying the ice looks like a ton of time and work.
I've subscribed!
Why does my sno breaker stick, i have to man handle it
it's one of the best idea tbh, though requiring the skate tech to have the right skill and machine in order to maintain the baldes, i think it worths it
brime should have be the name because many people see m insteand of n
C'est un super bon travail d équipes avec 😢 émotions bravo 😅
In your opion how long should it take for a rookie to make 10 minute practice ice ?
We have a rippling happening...im on my second season of ice maintenance, self taught. I'm wondering what the best pattern for scraping would be to get the rippling out
In my experience at our rink this is caused by going too fast on the ice. If you slow down and get other drivers to slow down you should get rid of the ripples through cutting normally
C'est émouvant de voir la glace fondre saison terminé 😢😢❤
Is this what you are showing the collector pipes/canal? if so, is it usually located only along one of the short sides of the rink? do i understand well this is located along one of the short sides close to the refrigeration plant?
hi there, I would very much appreciate if you could give me an answer. In my project, I can't place all the refrigeration plant (250m2 or 2700 square feet) in the same floor as the ice field for reasons of space. I could place 50m2 (550 square feet) in the ice field level and the rest (200m2) in the floor directly above. Or I could put it all together in the floor above. What of the two options makes more sense in your opinion? If placed in two levels, roughly what would make sense to locate in each? im considering an indirect CO2 transcritical system. Any input would be very appreciated.
Love the video! Couple questions, these are only done for dry cuts I'm guessing? And are they good to do after having hockey players skate around the face-off dots a million times leaving really deep grooves and ruts in the ice in those areas (I play hockey so can be blamed for causing this problem too lol)? The rink I work at has this problem a lot and now that we're getting into our busy season with public skates and college games/practices the times for a good ice maintenance session has shrunk quite a lot. On average we have 10 minutes between events for wet cuts (a few 15min ones sprinkled in here and there) except for the closing cuts but every so often we'll have 30+ minutes so try to squeeze in a dry and a wet in those slots, but the ice is still really tore up by the end of the night.
You wouldn't have sharpened, you replace them. They do gouge though, but that's when making an extreme cut/turn with a small radius. They're a personal preference -- i doubt the white plastic would stand up to a shot over 85mph. But they're fun for public skate. They have to be oiled WELL to be able to use them a second time.
Roughly what temperature do you want the water to be on your first 3 base coats?
Two main reason what cause the auger to fail in zumbune?
great job
Doing daily and weekly inspections allows you to catch potential problems ahead of time, reducing the potential for a breakdown to occur

Is it okay if we don't pour concrete if the cooling pipes are open?
Tell me why I thought it was a frozen lake
Have you ever heard of any method (ultrasonic, radar etc. ) to measure ice thickness without the need to drill ??? Trying to find a less tedious method with good accuracy. We have 4 pads, this is a daily task for us. Thanks !
What kind of hydraulic oil we should use for Zamboni electric 552? Thx sir
46 hydraulic oil?
Interesting. I've seen a lot of arenas paint the logos and the creases. I was shocked to seem the being picked up off the ice. How do you get things to lay so flat and be lined up correctly.
This is why hockey is an expensive sport to play.
Imagine the guy who makes ice calls in sick and you're the new guy. OMG
Hey, I know this is an older video, but if you’re able to answer that’d be awesome. Should it be a concern when tapping if the paint comes up at the bottom as the drill bit hits the concrete? I have this issue when doing depth checks and it discourages me from being perfectly accurate
Interesting, so the white is painted, and the crease and center symbols r like a vinyl sheet type deal? How do I get this job?
What is the name of this arena
