Really enjoyed this! The fiddle player (Sara) has been in the band Nickel Creek with Chris Thile since they were ~8 years old. All of the musicians on that stage have a lot of musical history and friendships that go way back. I'm sure Chris's reaction was 100% genuine. This video comes from an episode of "Live From Here" that was performed at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, which is an incredible music festival in the most stunning location I've ever seen. I'd love to see you check out more music from this community of musicians: I'm With Her, Aoife O'Donovan, Sarah Jarosz, Sara Watkins, Chris Thile, Punch Brothers, Nickel Creek, etc. And you are absolutely right about these kinds of bands - live is the only way to really appreciate them the way they deserve. 😌 I'd recommend checking out "Familiarity" (Front Row Boston) by Punch Brothers for some more stunning musicianship.
There is a three song medley this band performs (also on Chris Thile's show) which is more indicative of their broad talent range. Toy Heart/He's Gonna Marry Me/Hear Jerusalem Moan. It's unreal. This track is merely okay.
