As someone who is overweight. I am not offended at all at the idea of needing to be a certain weight and FIT.. fit is the key word. The military should require people to be fit!!! If my goal was to be part of the military I'd definitely have made that possible for myself when I was younger!!
Along with that. I don't accept my weight. I'll be loosing it! And getting HEALTHY!

As a retired military person (USN 22 years), the idea of diversity recruiting literally scares the crap out of me. I don't want to be on a burning ship with someone who can't decide what lipstick goes best with firefighting gear.
The last couple years before retiring, I saw the introduction of women on ships. In my opinion, it hasn't worked out as well as we're being told.
The proof of DEI hiring not working out is the absolute failure of the current administration.
Much less women on a submarine.
I being a woman, agree wholeheartedly with you. With extremely rare exception, women do not have the psychological or physical requirements needed, to be warriors. Nursing, physicians etc. are fine for women, but not fighting. I suppose this makes me a chauvinist pig. So be it.
When I was in recruiting command, there was a laughable program called "Hispanic Penetration" that added credit for enlisting "Hispanic individuals". It ended up inflating credits and numbers by counting anyone with a Spanish-sounding last name that enlisted.

My son is a Marine and is getting out because he says that after 4 years, the new Marines don’t follow any of the standards that he had to meet. He is honestly afraid to be deployed with the current “crop” of Marines.

When my son came back from duty overseas he became a DI and he said that the new recruits were lazy, soft and not motivated enough to protect this country. He was shocked because when he had entered the service Basic Training was brutal. Military personnel need to be trained to withstand physical and psychological pressure and abuse because they may end up in combat situations and they can also be taken prisoner by the enemy. Under those circumstances, the enemy is not going to be sweet and kind to them, they are going to be brutal. In order to keep military secrets from getting into the hands of the enemy the captured soldier has to endure torture. These are the reasons we need strong, tough military personnel. There is absolutely no room for wimpy crybabies in our Armed Forces! 🇺🇸
I served 22 years. I went through boot camp and MCT in the Summer of '91. I was TERRIFIED of our DIs and troop handlers. Their basic dig was "you new Marines wouldn't last ten minutes in the desert/MY boot camp/overseas/or whatever. They also told us how they were afraid of THEIR DIs because they were allowed to punch them and "motivate" them in ways that people go to jail for today.
The common theme was the "HARD Marines" were the generation before. The 80's guys had it easier because of the pain the 70's guys went through and they had it HELLA easier because of the Vietnam vets, who had it WAY better than the BS the Korean Marines went through...and so on and so on, which is the truth.
My fear is being realized now that we have changed the standards, gone "lighter than we had it" and "given breaks" and mad exceptions so much that the actual image of "best of the best" and "the few, the proud" has made us as weak and lazy as the Army was during the 90's. That's not even accounting for DEI and gender norming. Good luck when all that gets accounted for.

What if "Basketball Team A" selected the most qualified players and "Basketball Team B" used a quota system to select players? Which team would win more games? Do medical schools in China or Japan accept the most qualified candidates or have a quota system?

Diversity when you're talking about DEI isn't about different perspectives. It's about establishing power by mandating and controlling an environment of diversity by marginalizing those it believes are "privileged" and elevating those it believes are "marginalized". The purpose of which is to create an environment of uniformity of viewpoint about ideological matters which are only considered authentic if they corroborate the relationship of the identity group in question to systemic power..
