This was a very helpful video for me. I have just recently found you and I am so thankful. I subscribed to your channel and newsletter and I am always looking forward to watching the next video. I have been going back and watching some of your older videos. Thank you for sharing these. I'm a relatively new christian only been saved for a year and I half and I was 56 when I finally go saved so I have learned so much from you. It is truly a blessing.
The NIV Application Commentary is being delivered today. I can’t wait. I ordered this about three days ago. Popped up on my Amazon feed. It’s good to hear great things about it. Thank you.
WOW. The Word Commentary set is awesome. It is better to find especially good commentators that are deep dives for particular books of the Bible. For instance, Luke Timothy Johnson is wonderful for Luke/Acts and James (he did the Anchor Commentary on James).
As someone who collects Bible commentaries, I really appreciate this video! I don't have any of these volumes yet, so I'll definitely have to add them to my wish list! My favorite series is probably the IVP Cultural Background two volume set. That's SO COOL that you were gifted the entire Word series; that's definitely one of the best (and scholarly) sets out there. Thanks again Tim!
Thank you for sharing this. Respectfully requesting more videos on commentaries, including accessible commentaries for laypeople. There is an outstanding UA-cam channel for Bible commentary reviews; sadly, no new videos have been made on that channel for at least 2 years.
I’d like more content like this Tim. Glad to see you mix it up today. Thanks for all you do. I always look forward to your videos. Keep up the good work.
I'm a fan of single volume commentaries because I don't have the budget or space for the large sets. Some of my favorites are the Baker illustrated Bible background commentary, the Moody Bible commentary, believers Bible commentary, and the Holman illustrated Bible dictionary. All of these above are in the $20-30 range and worth every penny IMO
Single volume commentaries are the main books I own, besides study Bibles. I can't wait to ask for the NIV Application Commentary for Christmas!❤🎉 Thanks for sharing!
I have the Galatians from the CCF. I also have the entire set of the NIV Application Commentary in Accordance (Bible software). I am excited about the one volume one!! Thanks Tim.
Been thinking that I would really benefit from a commentary that had ribbons like our Bibles do. Something maybe Tim could recommend to one of his friends at one of these publishing houses. Great for a lectionary preacher who would find themselves studying in the vicinity of the same texts for weeks at a time or even as we prep for a Bible Study series, which typically hang out in one book or another.
I’m considering purchasing the one volume application commentary. Fortunately, as a life group teacher at my church, we are given a commentary that goes along with the book of the Bible we are studying as well as online commentary links. I find them very helpful.
I’m a little leery of the “formation” movement, so I may be less inclined to check out those commentaries, but I will check out the others. Love this review- please do more of these!
I am not a pastor, but I have several volumes of NIVAC. I love the original context to application format used for it. Along with the Ligonier commentaries, I've read them over the course of this year. I know Zondervan has released a newer commentary series but I like the elder one(NIVAC). I've seen single volume commentary but I don't think those are for me. I'd rather go study Bible instead of single volume commentary. Love your videos!
I prefer a single volume commentary. First of all, I don't have enough room for all of the Bibles I now own, let alone single book commentaries that would have to be stored under my bed! And another advantage of having the entire Bible in one volume is the exercise I get when I have to pick them up and use them! :)
Would you consider the NIV Application Commentary a replacement for the NIV Study Bible? I like my old NIV Study Bible but they are hard to come by these days in a premium format. Separating out the Study Bible into a separate book would be a way to go with a premium Bible while still having access to the study aspects.
Tim, you should review the St Bernard Breviary from Anglican Liturgy Press. Fantastically designed by Ben Jefferies, great resource for Anglicans in North America and beyond. Would love to hear your thoughts on it
Tim, I wonder if you could put a bug in Schuyler's ear about releasing more bibles containing the Apocrypha. We Catholics would love more choices when it comes to premium bibles.
Not a fan of Wright, but enjoy your Bible reviews. If you have not seen it, you might want to watch the UA-cam video with RC Sproul's comments on NT Wright and his theology.
Thank you for this video. One smaller bible study group at church is using the NIV version study commentary this year. I believe this commentary is going to help me a lot. I'm going to order it this week.
I recommend some diverse voices: True to our Native Land a classic African-American New Testament Commentary and Dr. Esau McCaulley has just jointly edited and released The New Testament in Color, A Multiethnic Bible Commentary.
I bought that NIV Application Commentary. Never bought a book like this before, but wow... how enlightening! I am blown away🙌
Hope you enjoy it!
@@timwildsmith have not been able to get my nose out of it-love it, lol 🙏

You are so welcome!
This is great! Love watching reviews of different commentaries.

I am falling in love with godly commentaries day by day

Ooh. I’ve been curious about that NIV Commentary. Maybe I’ll add that to my birthday wishlist 😄
Thanks for taking the time to highlight great resources as well as excellent Bibles!
You bet!
Wow. The whole set! Nice!

Thank you, Tim. Great reviews!
My pleasure!
Great video… I ordered the NIV Application Commentary and have been using it for the past couple of days and it is a great tool 💕
Got the NIV Application Commentary-really like it!!!!
Thanks Tim. Looks like some great resources.
Great knowledge! Will keep my eye out in Logos for these.
Right on!
I think I need the NIV Application Commentary ! Thanks for the reviews. They all sound great.
Thanks Tim!
You bet!

Tim’s such a cool dude!
I just got the NIV Application Commentary from Amazon yesterday. Excellent resource to have on hand.
Enjoy it!
Thanks Tim

Thank you for the information Tim, I've yet to use a commentary in my studies, so will be checking those out 📚
you're welcome!

I have the full set of the NIVAC commentaries and find it very helpful. I imagine the abridged version would be great as well.

Definitely getting the NIV Application Commentary! 👍🏽
I love me some one-volume commentaries. ✌️🤓
Great vid thank you Tim

It’s not the same kind of content, but it’s certainly helpful.
Would you consider putting any of these commentaries in a giveaway?
I have the older NIV Commentaries. 2 books ~1 Old Testament, 1 New Testament.
Tim, you should review the St Bernard Breviary from Anglican Liturgy Press. Fantastically designed by Ben Jefferies, great resource for Anglicans in North America and beyond. Would love to hear your thoughts on it
Hi, what if any leaning doctrinally/denominationally, etc does the NIV Application Bible Commrntary have? Thank you!
Tim, I wonder if you could put a bug in Schuyler's ear about releasing more bibles containing the Apocrypha. We Catholics would love more choices when it comes to premium bibles.
How small is the font on the one vol. NIV commentary?
Why do you not consider Lutheran works? The Lutheran Study Bible (ESV) for one volume. Concordia Commentary Series for individual books.

Bible Commentaries: books of people quoting other people.
the NIV application commentary,l would not recommend, check out what it says about the serpent in Genesis!!! just not true!
I recommend some diverse voices: True to our Native Land a classic African-American New Testament Commentary and Dr. Esau McCaulley has just jointly edited and released The New Testament in Color, A Multiethnic Bible Commentary.
I wouldn’t waste my time reading any commentary by N T Wright. Too revisionist….
I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very insightful.
Thanks Tim
