Galadrial is the oldest elf in the show, married with a daughter who eventually marries Elrond, she's the great aunt of Gil-Galad, Mount Doom was created 16 centuries before the Rings of Power, the Numenoreans on the show were born 16 centuries after the Rings of Power and Gandalf won't show up in Middle Earth for another 3000 years...

Tolkien said that the Blue Wizards were vital in the resistance against Sauron in the East. They were sent in almost a special mission to go East and keep down the numbers of Men who would join Sauron's army. And they were indeed successful in this, and without the Blue Wizards efforts in the East, the armies of Gondor, Rohan, and the "resistance" led by Gandalf would have failed as Sauron's armies would have swelled and straight out over-whelmed them.
They formed these interconnected mystery schools that doubled as shinobi style spy and ninjutsu intrigue. To give the men of the east a path to walk that was something other than the heavy looming presence of Sauron in that region

I don't think they ever will give up on this intellectual property, but a reboot of The Rings of Power would be much appreciated at this point. If they can get some seasoned writers and showrunners who know how to write fantasy and have an appreciation and understanding of JRR Tolkien, this could work. However, as long as amateurs who don't seem to really grasp the assignment they've been given are left in charge, I doubt any change will bear much fruit.

From what I've heard, they essentially hired those guys on J.J. Abrams' recommendation, like some kind of Hollywood insider nepotism. Regardless, I'd loved to have been a fly on the wall during those production meetings, because it's like having two kids not only sitting at the adult's table, but deciding on what food is going to be served.
It really is an unfortunate waste of artistic and narrative potential, at least so far. Best we can hope for is that they finally realize that these two guys (who I'm sure are perfectly nice people who are trying their best) are in over their heads, and hand the reins off to competent showrunners who are more than up to the task. There have got to be dozens of people - well-known, respected people in the industry - who would absolutely jump at the chance to be a part of a Tolkien production.

Yes! I’ve never understood how writers and producers think they can do better than the master. Arrogance or ignorance or stupidity - or all of those together. The idea that they need to “modernize” the story for today’s audience. Even the parts in The Lord of the Rings movies that were ignored, changed, totally made up still really irk me. I never knew that Dwarves are Scottish! And don’t even talk about The Hobbit! The first one: the only movie I’ve ever walked out of.

  • @ryanbadagliacco9614
    @ryanbadagliacco9614 2 місяці тому +2

Tolkien fans often criticize adaptations of his work. But they don’t ever come up with ways in which they think it should’ve been done. I love the books and think they’re perfect, but I understand that some things will have to be changed for them to be adapted, and personally I’m okay with that because I want to be transported to Middle Earth again. The big man wrote The Hobbit and the LOTR in a way that works for a movie. The rest of his works are much harder to make a good movie or show out of if you adapt 1 for 1. I don’t necessarily agree with every change made, but I feel that way about the Hobbit movies and enjoy those too. I love Middle Earth. Books, movies, Video games. I’m happy I can sit with my father, whose favorite book is also LOTR, and watch this together. I never got to see any of the movies for the first time after I had read the books, now I do. Consider me thankful that people are trying to

Visually it was stunning and a great journey to Middle Earth! The storytelling was okay, it varied from good stuff to some facepalming here and there but it was solid overall. :D I wasn't happy how the Elves were depicted but really really loved the Dark Elf villain and the origin of the Orc plotline. And so on, and so forth - after all I'm looking forward to season two, knowing that it won't be the most mindblowing stuff ever but another trip to my favourite fictional world.

There was an interview with Ron Ames, co-producer on Rings of Power, where it said he and Chris Newman (the other co-producer) negotiated the licensing deal and it limited them to Second Age stories (sorry lost the link). The recent tweak is possibly to use material in Peoples of Middle-earth (HOME Vol 12), which implies Gandalf (as Olorin) visits Middle-earth in the late First or early Second Age. Kind of a field trip for his wizardly training. So yeah, big reveal, meteor-man is Gandalf, who'da guessed.
Presumably War of the Rohirrim will be orchestrated to steal as much thunder as possible from Rings of Power. I'm less hopeful about it, since in spite of one of the writers being Philippa Boyens' daughter, she and her partner have next to no credits from a 20 year career. Good luck in all your ventures.

Amazon waited until Christopher Tolkien died early in the production of its DumpsterFire, his "demand" was that Amazon could use the Appendices to make the show, but they couldn't change the lore. As soon as Christopher died, Amazon delayed the show for reshoots, fired Tom Shippey who was the lead Tolkien scholar & friend of Tolkien himself; they wanted Jackson on the team.
PeterJackson asked for the scripts then they ghosted him. Then later when asked about it he basically told them good luck.. You can blame this garbage show on Simon Tolkien, its stink doesn't reach Christopher. Firstly: they merge events (from thousands of years of history & build up towards several events but puts them all into one moment as if it’s happening in the same few years without time jumps or anything.) Guyladriel the murderous one dimensional girlboss heroine version of Galadriel never met Miriel(one of Aragorn’s ancestors) because, as an elf, she would have been sacrificed to Morgoth by the King's Men.
The hobbits and Gandalf never met in the 2nd Age because Gandalf was in Valinor till the 3rd Age.
Miriel wasn’t even born yet. She was born 300 years before or after the rings of power era. Also Elendil would never say “forget the past and toss it aside.” That’s the whole thing about the Faithful Númenoreans!!! Faithfulness to what’s good. To their elf friends. To the Valar, to Eru Îlluvatar. The way Galadriel acts like Fëanor when he isn’t seeing straight such as how she threatened bloodshed in the highest court of Númenor! The way she isn’t tall, the way she fights rookies doesn’t make her look strong. Should have had her spar with Elendil who was greater than Miriel in many ways even as far as lineage goes too! Have her spar with those greater Numenoreans and let the rookies laugh at their masters being vested by an elf woman holding back from actually hurting them! Now that’d be cool.
(Remember. Their whole mantra was to write the book Tolkien never wrote”. Also watch them fake super fans. And then watch their social media that had nothing Tolkien on it ever. Like…. It’s painfully obvious what’s going on here. Same formula towards other titles. They’re just trying to bank on the brand of which that’s the only reason they did this.
Just watch Peter Jackson’s new movie coming out and the War of the Rohirim. You’ll see that Brian Cox is involved In it along with Philipa Boyens as well as Actor for Èowyn named Miranda Otto. Fran Walsh I also believe is Involved as well! Watch George The Giant Slayer’s first video regarding the war of the rohirrim. It was beautiful. And he has a wonderful soul too. When I say first video.
I don’t mean very first uploaded video though lol. )
There was also no Adar. No poppy. No Nori. No fake Gandalf who literally didn’t come the way he was supposed to which introduces Círdan. And since they screwed up the themes and lore so badly they have to dig in their heels. And they are also being sued by multiple people and groups and companies actually. The rings were forged last and not first. They were not in his sights or touch nor did he even know about them. And also guyladriel wasn’t a murderous Fëanorean either. But the note of the elven rings.
They were made last and without the knowledge of Sauron. His touch never got to them. Made in secret so that whole story is thrown out the window as well. And making them first and having the obvious Sauron figure who wasn’t an elf to just be there when they’re making them and have his eye show up in the forge which wasn’t even the worst of it.
The greatest of elven smiths still around which is Celebrimbor doesn’t even know what alloying is. Not to mention all their environmental scandals on top of bad CGI stuff. Full of copy past crowds and plagerisms up the wazoo. It’s also getting sued by several people and groups.
I’ll also remind you that they just ran an old sick horse til it died of cardiac arrest and then only had a ten min coffee break to loosely honour this horse. Not to mention Tolkien loved animals in a deep way. They also have been causing environmental damage one of which being King Charles ancient forest to make a set. It’s scandal after scandal. And the fire in studio that took four hours to put out with firemen for yet another example.
PS they don’t have the rights to the Silmarillion nor anything much of the second age let alone the first. Only the trilogy books and their appendices….
Remember that they also plagiarized tonnes of films in nontasteful instead of true a homage way… “tempest in me” but when threatening Fëanorean level bloodshed in the court of Numenor was from Cate Blanchett’s Elizabeth role which was done with grace and poise of a veteran actress(which doesn’t even sound like anything those of the great chill house of Finarfin would even act like.
Again it’d be best to put Elrond there due to Elros. But ooook let’s make girlboss do everything. Even if it continues to make zero sense. )😍
fact they downplayed Elendil, Gil-Galad and Finrod is beyond infuriating and not explaining Elwing, Elronds mother beyond just showing her as a swan was pure LOLism. Like. What’s worse is Grandpabimbor…. Let’s not forget good ol’ Guyladriel either. The LOTR version of Star Wars’ Rey! Guyladriel the Female Fëanor without any of his charms and subtleties and wit… just the bloody violent rages…

I'll withhold an opinion on the future of Rings of Power until Season 2 comes out. However, based solely on Season 1, I think that Payne & McKay's vision of the Second Age of Middle-earth strays too far from Tolkien's legendarium. It's not recognizable as Tolkien's Middle-earth.

I admire your positivity. I've seen almost nothing good from Disney or Amazon or Netflix for the last 5-7 years or even more. I don't think the Rohirrim movie is gonna be any good. I think they will cancel the RoP show next season or maybe on season 3.
The Breaking Bad is an old production from the mythical era when quality and good storytelling was at the forefront of moviemaking - bad example of a show that can develop into sth better than it started. The same is true for SW The Clone Wars

How to save Amazon rings of Powers:
    Images from season 1
voice speaking: 《Things that were, things that are, and some things... that have not yet come to pass.》
the video zooms out from the mirror of Galadriel and then they start everything again.
    Staying loyal to the books.

Season 2 should be the last season, though Bezos’ stubbornness might play a factor. Who knows maybe S2 will be a massive turnaround?
Animated lotr content would be amazing. Dragon Age did it so a fantasy series could definitely work. Would love to see a series about the history of middle-earth, with each episode focusing on a different character; from ancient heroes like Helm Hammerhand to more recent villains like Shelob.

As far as 'War of the Rohirrim' drumming up collateral support for RoP season 2 by reminding people of Tolkien again, it could just as easily work in the opposite direction if WotR is any good. In that case, people will be comparing a good show with what they remember of a bad show, rather like RoP and House of the Dragon were compared, but more so as this time it would be two Tolkien shows. People then might quite reasonably be saying, "Look, it's perfectly possible to create a great Tolkien show, so why is Amazon so bad at it?"

Gotta say, I have thoughts similar to Halo. Universally panned, I gave it a shot recently and I really like it. It's not Oscar winning cred but, it's competently written, acted and enjoyable. I just can't imagine that happening here. Unfortunately, I was excited by this and really disappointed. I don't see a pullback from that. I'm trying the think of an example where a show started off badly and recovered. There were shows that I took a while to warm up to, like Dark, even Stranger Things but not something that faceplanted out the gate like this one did.

It's my understanding that the Tolkien estate inly gave licence for certain characters and story lines and where told they could not touch other parts. So part of the blame lies at there feet.
