I love this video. This is one of the best "bang for your buck" drives in the state! I have spent time on Teddy Bear rock down on the beach there, such wonderful memories, floating around in the water in late August with my granddaughter about six years ago or so. Also, the sandstone is so beautiful down on the water at Larabie State Park (WA state's very first state park). I was up there just over a month ago with my pup (and lovebird in a backpack). We sat and watched the sunset, then ended the drive at TAYLOR's Shellfish Farm on the south end of the drive. They are SO nice in there, and professional. I bought about 10 pounds of fresh oysters, brought them home, shucked them and had a wonderful dinner for my brother's birthday (feb. 12). I usually combine viewing the gorgeous tulips of the Skagit Valley in the springtime with my favorite Chuckanut Drive (and always end it with a trip to Taylors). Thanks for this amazing drive!!

this is a beautiful drive, but I am disappointed that you did not stop at at least one of the pullouts to show the beautiful views of the bay. It is an amazing road, but you just basically drove through it and on a cloudy day. Redo the drive in the spring or summer to. Capture the awesome views of the water. Sunsets are spectacular here and stop at the parks where the views are magical. The crowded parking lot at the restaurant is at The Ouster Bar; great food and a views. My wedding party ate here just before my wedding.

I will for sure go back there once the weather is nicer, I want to hike one of the trails in the area. I also hope to make it out to the San Juan Islands someday, hard to stop all of the time, this drive is about 4 hours from home :(

I lived with a guy, Tom, from Philadelphia when I was at University. He told me that he planned to work and wanted to retire in Washington State. I couldn't understand why at the time, but now I do. It seems to be such a nice type of countryside.

There are plusses and minuses. The best thing is we do not have a water problem on the west side of the state and power is cheap. One of the cons is that most things are expensive. The worst thing is that so many people are moving here it is getting hard to enjoy the popular places in nature., traffic getting there is bad then most likely no parking spots are left. I wish the country would create more parks, trails, and campgrounds!

Thanks for sharing! I’m from this area and living in FL now.. was feeling a little homesick this morning…and this drive down memory lane (for me) was great 👍🏼 appreciate you! Spent many nights camping out there, days at Teddy Bear Cove, hiking Fragrance Lake… biking..quirky Bow Edison at the southern end has some really fun antique shops n cafes! You really should get out of your car get down to the beach and out hiking to truly experience the beauty if you have the chance!

I will do that sometime! We also like seeing the tulips in Skagit County when we get up there :)

@@AmericanOutbackAmazing oooh the tulip fields are amazing!!! One of my other favorite places in WA, is Dry Falls. It’s soo fascinating seeing what was once a huge waterfall barren.
If you hike the hills along Chuckanut Dr. you can find shell fossils up in the mountains.. it’s remarkable seeing what once covered by sea, now a mountain top!!! Hit up Galbraith if your in the area, the views are incredible ☺️

This popped up in my recommended lineup. Lived in Bellingham for over a decade. Still have family in the Whatcom County and Skagit County area. Very familiar drive. I was back for a visit last fall and plan on another one this summer.

"Don't bring your RV down this road." Yes, it gets pretty narrow. And it's not really safe for bicyclists though they, and the RVers do show up in the summer. A Mazda Miata is ideal (or a motorcycle).
