This drive was mostly on Highway 26 and through the northern part of the Wind River Range. The Wind River Range has the highest mountain in Wyoming which is Gannett Peak at 13,804 feet, there are also 40 additional peaks of over 13,000 feet! Walking the Gold Creek Pond Trail Hyak, Washington

This walk was only 1.5 miles but it was a lot of fun. The scenery was amazing and even better once the snowflakes started falling. The pond is an old gravel pit that has partially reclaimed over the last 20 years. The pit was used to construct I-90. The path is handicapped accessible and for the most part asphalt except in areas where there are bridges or boardwalks.

    At 34:20 you pass the 7 Mile Rd-Westside Rd turnoff...the shortcut to Medford. Around 15 miles down that road, in 1998, an infamous kidnapping & disappearance of a child happened. Still stunned by that forest fire damage on the hillsides.

      It's mascot is a little skunk. It's a gas station, not so much a store. I guess you can buy snacks and drinks, but most people are there to buy stinky gasoline. I think it's a safe bet that the majority of people don't think Maverick has the best breakfast in the world, and use gas stations for fuel, a bathroom and a road snack.

      Nope, we were good. 2 days later we lost power for about 90 minutes when a tree fell on the lines about 2 blocks away. Luckily the power lines were not damaged and we got power back quickly. The tree must have briefly touched the ground and live wire tripping the breaker somewhere in the system. So far we have never had the power out longer than 3-4 hours for all the years we have lived here.

    Such a beautiful state too bad it's so far away from the ocean

    • @AmericanOutbackAmazing
      @AmericanOutbackAmazing 19 днів тому

      True, Outside of the Glacier and Yellowstone National Park areas there is not a lot there that draws people. Did you start your move?

      @AmericanOutbackAmazing well not yet. I live in yelm in the country. we have a house in Ocean shores and a rental in Lacey. thinking about selling the rental and buying something toward the mountains. my wife is a nurse and per diem now. so she's 35 hr a week days. so she has more time. I have looked at black diamond, Ellis ville, Snoqualmie etc. hard to find property with views rn

    I just recently did this drive when coming back from Burning Man this year (to the Sprague River turnoff at least). Beautiful drive but the other drivers are WILD! So much high speed passing (I see you saw a lot of that as well) And I saw a couple speedtraps too. That state park is more of a rest area than anything and not very pleasant. Lots of cheap beautiful land out there. I appreciated the detour to Bonanza.

      I thought there was more in Bonanza, do you know if I missed anything there?

      @AmericanOutbackAmazing No I think you got the whole thing. It's weird that it's just out there all by itself though

      Yea, I thought it would be more historic.

    In my experience if there is a gas station out here, it's going to have diesel. What with everything that runs on diesel out there it's close to 50/50 usage as I understand it. A lot more so that in the city at least. I liked Plush. I came in from the NW on Hogback Road, that's a good gravel road. You can come in there from Xmas Valley and have enough fuel to get to Frenchglen via Plush

      Way cool, that is on my list to do next. Christmas Valley to Plush to Winnemucca and points south!

      I miss them to, been so busy we have not been on a hike in 2-3 months. I am hoping to start them back up in December. You are still dry and hot in the Northeast?

      @AmericanOutbackAmazing it's cooler now. About 50s. Maybe first snow next week. I'll send you pictures if we do. It rained here and there. So not dry. My husband is outside putting up all the Christmas lights. Takes him hours. Do you decorate?

      I used to but the rain was hard on them, I might try again this year. I did put our Christmas tree up this week, that was fun. I always look forward to seeing the lake affect snow there, should be fun!
