Since quite many people mentioned about Spetsnaz in Call of Duty Black Ops 1 so I want to leave some facts/info here for those who interested: - Although the Vietnam era missions are all set in 1968, Spetsnaz troops are equipped with 1970s-1980s uniforms and equipment instead. Along with a massive amount of either anachronistic or inappropriate weapons. Even worse, this also happen in the 1963 Baikonur mission as well. - What they (or majority of them) should have worn in 1968, especially in Vietnam is 'KLMK uniform' with appropriate camo patterns like "splatter/splotch" or "sunshine ray" design. Which is similar with what's appeared in this video.

I spoke to a man who was a Green Beret in Vietnam. He told me about an old Soviet soldier that he and his squad had to fight. They said he was very tough.
My grandfather served in the PVO of the USSR during the 60's and 70's. He was a technical advisor who would train foreign troops on Soviet anti-aircraft equipment. He was sent to India in 1965 (Indo-Pak war) while his best friend Ernest (German descent) was sent to Vietnam where he died. My father is named after him.

to be fair, that is the ''official'' list. Soviets never liked to talk about their casualties in any conflicts , in Winter war against Finland they reported like 3 times less people killed than what Finns found buried in the ground. So we dont know for certain
Well worth a read is On the Ground the Secret War in Vietnam and Across the Fence: The Secret War in Vietnam. The SOG teams deployed into Laos were frequently contacted by Russians over radio and told they were being hunted. They would even address the teams by name, showing the level of intel they had on the supposedly clandestine missions. The teams frequently observed tall white Europeans operating with North Vietnamese forces across the fence and would also observe Russian aircraft supplying the NVA along the Ho Chi Minh trail.
I've got an excerpt from the first batallion ninth marines in operation dewey canyon command chronology where they would get these same messages, usually accompanied by "martial" music and a person speaking in slavic accent.
When the call first came in it was in an american southern accent, and asked that a specific company that was int he field identify their location. After not responding they then began playing the music and speaking a slavic language.
My grandpa was a Soviet rocket brigade Colonel. He told me how his brigade was training the Vietnamese on using the Anti-Air missiles. He said at first, the Soviets were firing the missiles and downing planes at a ratio of 1 missile per 1 American plane (bombers, jets) (glad Simple History mentioned the first involvement). Then the Vietnamese began using them on their own, albeit at a lower success rate of 2 missiles per 1 American plane. He also told me how whenever a US plane began bombing a Vietnamese base - the Vietnamese would pile up on the Soviet advisors to shield them from shrapnel with their own bodies. They were extremely important, as only they could down the American planes at the time and the Vietnamese were completely defenseless without them against the American air attacks.
Very cool, my friend's dad was Soviet colonel I think in Air Force training Mozambique The soldiers wore no shoes at all, and the Officers wore Vietnamese *kedi* rubber basketball shoes lol
When my dad was a boat person, the captain of the boat spotted a ship in the distance and they used search lights to communicate. It turns out it was a soviet ship heading towards the newly united vietnam and asked if they needed an escort. The captain said "no thank you" and went their way out of the country.
That starting animation from 1:11 looks so smooth and refreshing! I can tell Simple History made a LOT of progress with their stories and the animation. Keep it up!!!
One of my great uncles was in Vietnam you can read his books about his time in Vietnam his name is clay Lifto, he told me Russians were in Vietnam and they mainly operated the sam missiles and worked on them since the majority nva didn’t know much about Soviet Sam missiles and system it used. The Soviets did play a huge role in the war. I also want to mention this all happened during the Cold War and the Cold War could of turned hot if they noticed what the Soviets were doing and if they were to decide to declare war against the ussr
I read a book by two members of the 75th Ranger regiment who were in the Vietnam war. They would go on recon missions deep into North Vietnam Southern China and Laos They said that they ambushed North Vietnamese patrols and killed white people with them who wore different uniforms . They also killed Chinese soldiers with the North Vietnamese. They brought one of the white peoples body back with them and the US Army intelligence identified them as a Polish advisor . I also read abotu the SOG units who said that they often monitored Russians talking on their radio when they went on recon missions into Laos and Cambodia. They said that some of the Russians could speak English and would taunt them on the radio. They said that they were Spetznaz . The SOG teams also saw Russian cargo planes with Russian markings making drops of supplies by parachute at night into the jungle that were signaled by Russian spetnaz with flashlights

If you can share evidence of that would be appreciated ;)

to be fair, that is the ''official'' list.

Im vietnames and i confrim your story, thank you for your service grandba we never forget .
