6:56 This annoys the shit out of me. Like, Mel is an entrepreneur genius and people legitimately don't understand when I say that! She plays the dumb ditz while simultaneously engaging in 2 VERY different kinds of streaming, she is a founding member of one of the most successful V-tuber agencies ever, she has merchandise ranging from plushies to VIDEO GAMES, and all this started because she was the first to capitalize on an untapped livestream market! I don't care how dumb people think she is, she's legitimately a freaking genius!
And if she is ditzy, its fine. Although she does play 40k (like play play, not just paint). And those people don't seem the type to be ok with: Oopsies, the, I forgot this rule or another. (I know a few wargamers)
If you just listen to her speak, it's pretty obvious that she's bright. Nobody with a vocabulary as rich as hers is dumb. I became a fan of hers the day that she was streaming Minecraft and she described her house as "resplendent", lol.
0:38 It reminds me how court in my country unironically restricted Konosuba for (QUOTING NOW!) "reincarnation propaganda that showing that after death a more interesting, diverse life is possible, and one that is not controlled by parents. The world after death is positioned as brighter and full of adventures with the possibility of leading a riotous lifestyle, drinking alcohol, sexual relations, and illegal actions, while the real world appears bleak and full of loneliness." Such broad understanding of HS is a huge roll back for UA-cam if you know *what* content could easily be monetized during Machinima times, for example.
Funny story on the regards of people giving advice. A friend of mine posted on Twitter that they need medication for something. Then someone replied with, well you don't need that cause if you really listened to your body and have a positive outlook in live it will resolve itself. Imagine mentioning you need chemo for your cancer treatment and someone being like "But did you listen to your body? With a positive you can overcome that."
The online purity spiral started after 2015. It's like the satanic panic days (1970 to the end of the 90s), it's just not Christians busting everyone's balls this time. Hopefully it doesn't last as long as the last social purity spiral, 30 years is a long time to wait for sanity to win out.
I don't have TikTok, so I can't relate to that. But with general content creation, I would like to make things that are fun to others. To make their day brighter! However, I feel like I am a boring person to listen to by myself. I don't want to be all famous or make lots of money. I just want to be happy and make others happy. I miss the old internet in the sense that it felt like everyone had a chance to be seen. Again, not in a famous way. But seen enough to get compliments and such. I feel like, now, I don't have a chance in hell to be seen for anything I do.
I felt the definitive end of the '00s Internet era had to be around 2012 when Gangnam Style got super viral. It showed that the Internet wasn't its own ecosystem separate from reality anymore.
That's actually a really smart observation. The truly old Internet was characterized by a total wall of separation from the real world. When the two started to blur together, that was the beginning of the end. It was just a hop, skip, and a jump from there to Twitter freaks launching culture wars over bullshit.
The concept of time is different among various age groups. Younger millenials were teenagers in 2010, same for zoomers born in 97 to 2001. Make sure your health choices don't stalk or catch up on you.
@@jem_lucinamain3777 Ah yes, zoomers who think anyone over the age of 20 is an old person, y'all going to be in shambles when you hit 30 lol. I recomend putting the vape down before it makes you look, sound, and feel like an old person between age 30 and 40.
@@thecompareablezombie yeah, when i was in school it felt like 30 is omega old, like mom and dad old. i am now 42 and i think 50 is young (it actually is).
God, yeah I noticed that video get taken down and poked the Discord wondering what happened. This junk is why advertiser money should not rule the media, it's a cancer. I'm not sure how to implement an effective alternative, but this sucks.
Advertisers need to stop being gilded reactionary puritanical tyrants but that would be truly an impossible feat to accomplish. They will claim it's for the children or social decency but in reality it's just the only way that advertisers can get off is by telling other people what they can do and busting other peoples chops when they don't comply (even on accident) on the daily, it's the only thing they live for clearly.
My Vtuber model will be a full on animal 'skin' (akin to a skin you put on your car or computer), I'm already fully realizing that I'll need to ban the word 'furry' because it will never stop
The old net was better, we weren't all coralled into a tiny handful of sites, tumblr kept the cancer contained, less minors, it was great. Now there's some underage teenager ready to pounce on everything you say on social media.
Vtuber viewers might tend to infantilize their streamer because they could feel disconnected if the streamer appeared overly competent, potentially causing them to feel inadequate. Of course I'm projecting, but maybe a small nugget of truth.
I don't miss dialup, I do miss the internet being a much less sinister place overall. I adore the little meows of your cat. 10/10 video

Remembering to breath is always solid advice.

I wanna guess Poland.
Sounds like you live in a shit hole theocracy
internet peaked in 2011 and tanked in 2015. RIP

"You can fix cancer, but you can't fix stupidity" -- which is exactly what I would have replied to them, if I were that person. :P
Love the cigarette holder
I like pre-2015 internet for sure
Agreed

that lethal company collab and video was one of the funniest and most memorable ones

2010 internet is considered old? I must have been sending cave painting by telephone wire...
Somewhere, deep in the heart of the Usenet, a single tear rolls down an electronic cheek.
Would even say that 2000 internet was better than 2010, but most zoomers are not ready for that convo...
2000s was the best time for the internet. Older zoomers have a higher chance of being ready. Younger Zoomers needs time to learn.
Ah, the good old days of watching Madness Combat and the Xiao Xiao animations on school computers.

When I think old internet I think of the time before eternal September...
My favorite band is a Finnish rock band I discovered through the internet. These days I could never find such a hidden gem.
4:24 wait that scream's from the Darkstalkers series, right? Or was it just a royalty-free scream...
2010 IS NOT OLD
I AM NOT OLD
I AM YOUNG
This way grandpa. (JOKE)

2010. It was incredible and we never appreciated at the time
