John has expressed frustration elsewhere with the tendency of evangelical churches to portray scripture as literal, inerrant and God breathed. I've pondered what conclusions one might reach if they did not believe that God had his hand on the writing of the scriptures . I think such a person would likely view Christ as more of an idea or ideal as opposed to a deity with whom to have a relationship. Like, you could determine what is true righteousness by studying what humans imagined God should be as opposed to those who say, "there is no God so I'll do what I want." or those who imply that only their interpretation is correct and all else is haresy.

How John the Baptist fits into the broader history around development of Christianity and indeed the broader Abrahamic tradition is really interesting and the mysterious background of the Mandaeans just adds an extra layer that can’t help but get my mind going. As said in this video and others on the channel, it’s impossible to prove whether the Mandaeans truly do go back to John the Baptist, but a couple of things can’t help but stand out to me when wondering about.
    1) An austere lifestyle often comes hand in hand with cosmological dualism. Variations on the phenomenon also famously manifested within Jainism and Manichaeism. The notion that the temptations or creature comforts of the material world is evil in some sense naturally lends itself to the idea that the material world at base is evil and something totally apart from the spiritual realm of light. Alternatively, maybe that’s an explanation you might think of to justify the practice afterward. Or it could have motivated by the need for a new direction after the loss of their leader. The point being that the asceticism of John’s movement might have over time given way to Mandaean dualism. John himself wouldn’t have necessarily had to be the one preaching it for it to appear among his followers anymore than it did amongst those in the congregations of Proto-Orthodox Christians.
    2) However, if Jesus did take a number of John’s followers with when he started his own ministry and they did bring either Mandaean or Proto-Mandaean concepts along with them, then that could explain why Gnosticism was such a prevalent heretical movement throughout the early church communities. Mandeaeism tends to get classified as a species of Gnosticism due to the amount of overlap. The aforementioned dualistic outlook, a tenuous relationship with the Hebrew Bible, some level of practicing self-denial involved, etc. When it comes to groups who play their cards so close to the chest like the ones in question, it can be hard to know for sure all their most important beliefs. A critical difference of course was that the Gnostics fully embraced the idea that Jesus is the Messiah while the Mandaeans regardless of wherever their origins lie reject him as a false prophet alongside Abraham and Moses.
    3) And thus it is also notable that the Gnostics weren’t the only distinctive religious group outside mainline Christianity to accept Jesus as an honored figure. Newer full-blown ancient religions including Manichaeism, Islam and Druzism all adopted him into their story even if they had had different understandings of him than Christians. Specifically, the fact that they viewed him as a prophet rather than the divine son of God. The Mandaeans stand out as a faith connected to the Abrahamic religions many think came after Christianity that didn’t even accept Jesus on those terms. It can’t help but raise the question as to why that might have been the case despite the wider pattern. He was a popular and widely respected figure in their world many claimed as their own which could indicate an established loyalty to John’s movement which preceded the rise of Jesus’ own into what looks like a rival.
Naturally, that’s all just me speculating. It’s perhaps even downright fanciful and can have holes poked in it by those who know more about these subjects than I do. But these are the thoughts that came to me about the topic at hand based upon what I know now and I might as well leave them here. These lectures and the discussions alongside them are just great food for thought in general.

Josephus' words "... not in order to the putting away of some sins, but for the purification of the body; supposing still that the soul was thoroughly purified beforehand by righteousness" seem to me to indicate that, in John's eyes, the ritual of baptism was specifically _not_ for the remission of sin, but only for the purification of the body, and would only be efficacious if the soul had already been purified or was pure or whatever.
This seems to directly contradict the lecturer's characterization at 14:19 the John "[c]alled upon people to practice baptism _for_ _the_ _remission_ of some sins". Not only that, John's idea of baptism as described by Josephus directly contradicts what I understand as church tradition, ie, that baptism purifies the soul and not the body. Given the early church's penchant for syncretizing any belief system with a sizable following, no matter how seemingly contradictory, and given Josephus' failure to mention what should have been a famous meeting between two leaders, it seems likely to me that the alleged baptism of Jesus by John is entirely apocryphal.

1:14:30 you may have missed something in the gospel of Luke. In that version of the Lord's prayer, the disciples ask Jesus to tell them how to pray as John did and he responds with this prayer.
Also, I have to disagree when you say it fits with Jesus' ministry more than John's. The Lord's prayer has nothing about vicarious atonement or sacrifice. Rather it is about reciprocal forgiveness, and avoiding temptation, which seems to fit better with the idea of remitting sins and upholding acts of the law.
"Thy kingdom come" is also very Lukan, but nothing like the heavenly afterlife from other quarters of christianity. It fits great with the essences, though, who seem to have believed that when the people are pure enough, God's army will come to earth to fight against the Romans. This all seems to fit perfectly with what we can piece together about John.
Even the daily bread in the wilderness should immediately remind you of manna in the torah.

“Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.” Luke 11
Jesus then recites a version of the Lord's Prayer, which is shorter and less elaborate than the version in Matthew, which scholars often argue means it is likely an earlier version.
It omits 'thy kingdom come', which you quote as an illustration of why it is a more Jesussy prayer than a Johnny one.
Luke is the only source I'm aware of that credits John the Baptist as the origin of the Lord's Prayer, but it seems an odd detail for Luke to add, it seems more likely that Matthew would remove this detail than Luke invent it.
On reflection this is a pretty significant detail - it backs up the hypothesis that Jesus was a disciple of John and that some of John's former disciples later followed Jesus - if Jesus wasn't a follower of John why would he be considered an authority on how John would pray ? And if the questioner wasn't formerly a disciples of John, why would he ask Jesus how to pray like John ? Any why would Luke include this detail, unless it was in whatever earlier source he was drawing on, or it was still common knowledge at the time that this prayer was attributed to the John The Baptiser

Jesus did it to be an example for his followers.
      Matthew 3:15 (KJV)
"And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him."
Basically telling us that being Baptized by John the Baptist is the right thing to do. Tells us that only John the Baptist has this authority during their time to baptize. Baptism is to be identified with the Lord Jesus Christ.

I don't know what do you think :)? Perfect logic. Baptism is to cleanse yourself and renew your oath to the Great Life (god) in Mandaean tradition then someone comes since start of humanity and contradicts it. The story of John being in the wilderness while also being in Jerusalem also is non-sense, imagine someone surviving of honey and whatever they state in the bible. In fact, they don't know his full name, only we his followers know. John the baptist is a title which shows their lack of background knowledge about him and it's clearly a made up character that Doesn't resemble Prophet Yahya. Thanks.

A question to all?? I’m Looking forward to an intelligent reply.?? Moved by lust at the sight of her, King David called for Bathsheba to be brought to him and slept with her. David committed adultery with a married woman called Bathsheba, wife of Uriah. what's more, David murdered Uriah by proxy by ordering all of Uriah's comrades to abandon him in the midst of battle, so that he ended up getting killed by an opposing army. The Prophet Nathan was sent by God and warned King David. well, Torah verses clearly say that both URIAH and DAVID Blessed by GOD.
Well, the question is, if Uriah, David and Bathsheba go to heaven. To whom will Bathsheba be given? This question is ready to test the wisdom of all of you: The Bible [ Torah ]: God promised that God had already chosen all three humans for heaven: David, Uriah and Bathsheba. Could "Q" not be a physical source at all, but rather a collective recollection of "wise sayings" commonly preached at the time? I keep thinking Jesus, John the Baptist, the Teacher of Light, are all the same 'school of thought' evolving through Hellenized Judaisim, which all draw from the Torah translations of the Hasmonean period.

And on another note, all of John's denials that he is any kind of returning figure ("I am not the messiah, I am not Elijah), makes me think the writer(s) wanted to refute anyone saying John the Baptist was the Christ. Which tells me there were competing cults. Then if the Jesus cult has Jesus baptized by John, with John acknowledging that Jesus is his successor and superior, this definitely feels like one cult trying to not just ride the coat-tails of another, but steal their entire coat.

Exodus 19:14: The Lord instructed Moses to ask the people to consecrate themselves by washing their garments before the third day, when the Lord would come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people 1.
Exodus 40:12-15: Aaron and his sons were washed with water before they were anointed and consecrated as priests 1.
Numbers 8:5-7: The Levites were cleansed by sprinkling purifying water on them, using a razor over their whole body, and washing their clothes 1.
Leviticus 17:15: Any person who eats an animal which dies or is torn by beasts, whether he is a native or an alien, shall wash his clothes and bathe in water, and remain unclean until evening; then he will become clean 1.
Leviticus 13:6: If a person has a skin infection, the priest shall look at him again on the seventh day, and if the infection has faded and the mark has not spread on the skin, then the priest shall pronounce him clean; it is only a scab. And he shall wash his clothes and be clean 1.
Leviticus 15:16-18: If a man has a seminal emission, he shall bathe all his body in water and be unclean until evening. As for any garment or any leather on which there is seminal emission, it shall be washed with water and be unclean until evening. The Bible tells you that John the Baptist was the same soul that had come as Elijah. And the Bible promises that Elijah shall return once again, in the so-called end times. John the Baptist was a Prince of Heaven who volunteered along with many others to move to the lower Heavens, close to earth, to provide teaching and support for The King of Heaven's Mission of Redemption. He was a pure spirit who had not been tainted with involvement in events leading to "The Fall". He had earlier taken on the role of Elijah, God's prophet to the Tribes of Israel, and had returned to Heaven following that incarnation without having to undergo the normal process of dying. Following his execution as the Baptist he remained with Moses, another Prince and pure spirit, in the lower Heaven's to coordinate the events that would lead Jesus on His collision course with Satan - ruler of the world. Christians do not realise the significance behind the Transfiguration when Jesus received His final briefing in that historic face to face meeting with God, Elijah, and Moses in the company of His closest disciples.

This is the second video I've seen from this channel, which demonstrates a pattern of weak scholarship related to the Bible and early Christianity.
Let's take the opening claim about the Greek used in Revelation being different than the Greek used in the Gospel According to St. John, and how they "prove" there are different authors of these texts. There's a simple reason for this, one that doesn't negate 2000 years of Christian tradition (and, in fact, is part of it): St. John used scribes. St. Prochorus recorded Revelation for him.
Oral tradition is, itself, history. The Church knows who wrote its sacred texts. It didn't forget things of such vast importance. It remembered, accurately, things that aren't in the Bible (and were directed to do so, as it turns out, within the New Testament epistles). The Church knows, for example, the way various authors place themselves in the gospel narrative without using their own names (we see this in Luke and Mark, as well as in John).
May you learn the Truth, friends...and believe it.

For those just beginning to study the Bible beware. Some parts of his teachings are really good but his liberal interpretation of scripture is most apparent. I would argue that most biblical scholars would disagree with many of his teachings.
His bias toward Christianity and orthodoxy/conservative scholarship is evident.
It’s always good to listen to both liberal and conservative scholars and make up your own mind.

Guy wandering around the wilderness of Judea preaching about repentance, remission of sin, The coming of the Kingdom eating wild honey and locusts 😂.
Then one day Jesus shows up and then John turns, looks at him in the crowd and must of been thinking "It's Him that's him, God Wrapped in Flesh🫨🫨🫨" amazing.

I live in an area where Mormons outnumber all other religious faction.
I know Joseph Smith was not counting on the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947. The scrolls that were found corroborate every jot & tittle of the current Cannon of Scripture.
The Gospel of John 1:1 (KJV) describes the Deity of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. John 3:16 describes Jesus as God’s ONLY begotten Son. John 3:7 (KJV) describes we must be “Born Again” to enter into Heaven. Ephesians 2:8&9(KJV) states that it is by God’s Grace that we are saved through Faith, not of ourselves, it’s a gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
Jesus ransomed anyone who would humble themselves, repent of their sins & the sin nature & place their full trust in what Jesus did by shedding His unblemished blood on that Roman cross. We can earn rewards for Heaven but we cannot earn our place in Heaven.
There were two thieves crucified with Messiah, one mocked Christ and the other on His right humbled himself and asked to be remembered in His Kingdom. Jesus told him that: “today, you will be with me in Paradise. The repentant thief was Saved & the mocking thief was lost for eternity. The believing thief was not baptized, join a denomination, have a position on eschatology, do any good works, etc., etc. he simply believed.
I secured my reservation in Heaven on June 27, 1960 @ 7:30 pm. I simply placed my life in Messiah’s hands to protect and to guide me during the remainder of this physical life & in Heaven for eternity. I am totally secure & fearless about my future.
Our pride is anathema to Jehovah & will keep most well meaning people out of Heaven by thinking they can please God through their own efforts.
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is destruction.
I pray that God will open your eyes to the one & only Way, Truth and Life.
The Cannon of scripture is being validated every day by archeological finds, literally fulfilled prophecies & the paradigm change in me and hundreds of millions of others.
    Maranatha!

"GOD our savior...will have all men to be saved and come unto knowledge of the truth." 1Timothy 2:3-4

"The Kingdom of GOD is within you." "Is it not written in your law, 'I have said ye are gods'?"
Jesus came to remind us who we are; not to die for anyone's "sins"!
"Spirit gives life, the flesh counts for nothing."
I came as Elijah, John the Baptist, and now I am the prophesied end-time return of Elijah, who is spoken of in Revelation Chapter 11 and known as "the two witnesses," come to clarify the GOOD NEWS once gain.

The message of Christ calls us to walk in the SPIRIT instead of the flesh. This is essential to Christ's teachings. Yeshua is the WORD become flesh for our benefit. To bring us back to YAHH. SPIRITUAL PURITY. WUNA. THAT'S WHAT IS AT STAKE HERE. Adam a man of flesh is created to walk in YAHH's Spirit. But man went after the ways of the flesh seeking material gains. And thinks they can improve on YAHH's creation, by progress and advancements thru technologies, making man more and more dependant on them which forever leads man more and more away from the perfections of YAHH's creation. In fact they even lead to the destruction of YAHH's creations. A truly blasphemous life styles. When we accept Christ in our hearts with all his commandments walking in this Spirit we will receive the treasures of YAHH's LOVE. When man gets back to GOD frequency in harmony with YAHH he can have all the clean life that is rooted in purity. A return to true and PURE SANITY. Free from falsehoods of Satan and all his demonic influences. That using the natural world to put fear in men's hearts disguising themselves as deities over the powers of nature. Corrupting the natural world and the true reality of man's very nature.

John the Baptist was the half cousin of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Elizabeth was Mary’s full cousin. John’s mother was too old to conceive normally but YAHWEH allowed her to conceive and deliver John the Baptizer.
When the religious leaders asked him if he was the Messiah, he was not the Messiah but he answered: “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, make way for the “Lamb of God” who takes away the sins of the world, whose shoes, I am not worthy to untie.
Eve was deceived in the Garden but Adam was not. YAHWEH held Adam responsible for the rebellion against The Creator of all things and passing on the sin nature we are born with.
Anyone who does not reach an age of accountability will immediately be in God’s presence when their heart stops beating. Any person who reaches an age of accountability and refuses YAHWEH’s free gift of redemption, will be cast into the “Lake of Fire” that burns forever and ever & the worm doesn’t die.
We can be religious and not Saved
