My father was a Vietnam veteran and was spit on and insulted upon returning home. My heart breaks for veterans. As a va nurse I had one patient tell me that in order to get recognition he needs to be in uniform and it be a veteran holiday the rest of the time they are unnoticed and unheard.

My father was a p.o.w. in the Korean War. He was a p.o.w. for two years. And he said the same about coming home our local city had a parade for them and he said they were spat on and cursed at too. My heart breaks for the veterans of this country. But they have my utmost respect!!!

I remember when I first saw this video, crying and crying. Then showing it to everyone I knew. Years later I met my husband who is a 1992 Gulf War veteran and didn't share it with him for a long time because this is the kind of thing that triggers his PTSD.
Thank you for keeping the message alive.

I don't think its about the "though shall not kill" as much as its about our soldiers losing faith in the reasons that they are fighting. I come from a military family and we have conversations REGULARLY about them feeling betrayed by our government, and feeling almost dirty with the guilt of what they were told was a righteous cause. My mom can't listen to this song without crying.

    • @helensmusings
      @helensmusings Рік тому +5

They were as much victims to political machinations as the people they were fighting. They have no need to feel guilty, I hope they find peace with what they've been through 💖

I also come from a military family. My dad was in the Air Force, and when his birds went to Iraq during Operation Desert Shield/Storm I was TERRIFIED! I wasn't all that old when that was going on, but if anyone understands the price our military pays, it's us and our loved ones who put on the uniform. I also can't watch this without crying.

My daughter's uncle, my ex brother in law was a tuff guy. I knew ptsd was real, but I thought the prevalence of it was blown out of proportion until I seen what happened to him after 4 tours. Everything was fine until he killed a 12 year old boy by shooting him in the head. He had never been the same and his health has went down. He stopped hunting. He really is still a good guy.🇺🇸

Agreed. My dad served in Vietnam and was in USAF for 40 years altogether. She has hearing loss, shrapnel that a sliver worked it’s way to his heart, PTSD, and a host of things that happened along the 40 years. When he went to claim help for the medical treatment from the VA, he was told that he had to prove he was a Vietnam Vet. WTH!?!
Thank god my stepmom has a cousin who legally fights for veterans rights, he was able to go to D.C. and subpoena the records department. After 40 years of service!! 🤯🤬💔🤦‍♀️ it’s mind blowing the way the the government likes to break people down then hate to heal them back up. It’s a travesty!!!

A guy I used to work with a combat vet once told me a story about his deployment. They were in Afghanistan walking towards a village to help the people there. They saw a 60 year old man trying to rape a 10 year old girl on the side of the road. He asked his CO if they could help her. The CO said it’s not our mission ignore it. This didn’t sit well with him so as they passed he pulled the trigger and explained it as a weapon malfunction. He was still given a dishonorable discharge because his CO was an a hole but we need more guys like him if you ask me.👍

I am not an US citizen and I sometimes don't understand why the US army does what it does. That being said, I do believe that most of the times it's good that they do that. I do shed a tear every time I hear this song, and when I visited the US, I had the chance of talking briefly with a guy that was a veteran holding a board saying that any spare money would help. He was a really great man. I had a few dollars, one day before leaving so I didn't need them anymore. he didn't want to take them, I had to explain why I want to give that amount. Even at his lowest point in life, he taught of me instead of just accepting my gift. I will never understand why no buget is dedicated for veterans. Probably under 1% of what's dedicated for the active army would make a huge difference for the veterans. They were ready to give their life for your country, but your country can't give a dime for them. That is sad.

The original translation was thou shalt not murder. Killing justifiably, in self defence for example, wasn't part of that commandment.
Many people blame soldier's for the wars they fight, rather than placing the blame at the feet of the politicians who cause them.
I pray your son in law is safely returned every time he's deployed and that your daughter has the strength to deal with the times he's away 💖

When ever this video comes up I cant help but tear up while watching which eventually turns to anger at the end. Especially towards the VA. It takes an avg of 5 years to appeal a disability case, coincidentally, it is also the avg length of time a vet is homeless. Vet is trying to get compensation due to disability for which he cant work now because of said disability, yet the VA denies the claim for disability, so an appeal has to be filed. This is more VA admin side, doctor wise ive had alright service, psych failed me though, they really like to hand out pills like candy... sigh, anyway thanks for the reaction video.

When you have a chance can you react to Monsters by James Blunt? It has to be the music video. This song made me love James Blunt both him and his father were in the British army and this song is so sad but beautiful at the same time. I have PTSD from a horrible childhood and experience flashbacks and nightmares. I didn’t serve but I was violated from 3-12 and it’s still hell and I’m 53. I empathize with Veterans so much as my dad was in the Army and I have a few family members that have served. Proud of my family for that. I always thank them and anyone I see that’s a veteran. One of my friends her dad was in Vietnam and he doesn’t talk much about it. I never bring it up but the things he saw omg! He was in the tank and watched his friends die. It was horrific. So much Trauma in this world that’s overlooked. Love ya Salty!

Wow that does hit hard aye. For sure these boys need and deserve our help to recover from what they've been through and seen. As a society we must stop making these veteran victims though. They are only there to grease the wheels of the war machine and we have more in common with these "enemies" than we ever will with those who make these wars happen. We should equally think of the very same devistation on the other side of the fence. Beyond our borders does not live a lesser people. ✌️

I hope you are in a state where cannabis is legal. I served almost 9 years and cannabis saved my life. I went from drinking 6 to 12 beers a day and being homeless to 0 and now I am in therapy. Drinking will come first but does not help, cannabis helps and should be the first treatment not the last. I am struggling as I type this to get my VA appointment for a diagnoses to submit my claim. I keep being told it will take years to there is no updates. I had to go to the ER to get the ball rolling.

@@SaltyReacts No, it isn't. At 13:47 in your video, it shows you stopping the original video at full 2 mins before the end. Did you not wonder what made up the last 2 mins of the original video?

I just stumbled upon this and I have to say the part where you were discussing your daughter and son-in-law has to be one of the most genuine and pure things I’ve ever heard. 🩷 That, alone, is enough to make me hit subscribe.
