One of the best things about Keon builds is he never skimps on the shower and toilet area.
I know many people are fine showering outdoors, no judgement there, but I just love having an indoor shower and toilet that I can use privately and peacefully. It's also great for elders and kids.

Keon, dadgummit, BE PROUD. I remember a video of, I think you said it was your second build, looked kinda like a city apartment maybe had brick or something, but you said something that really hit me. You said you wanted to make this kind of stuff accessible for people who usually wouldn't be able to go for it. That's a dream you've had for years and you're DOING IT NOW, and doing it WELL. I am not your momma, never met your mama, in fact I have never been and will never be a mama, but I'm as proud of you right now as if you were my kiddo. You're doing GOOD THINGS in the world and fostering diversity and accessibility. Hell yes.

Very well said, man. This guy has talent when it comes to building trailer campers. Hope to see more from him.
PS: shout to the camera guy for ACTUALLY letting the guest speak and not cutting him off every fucking time and not making it sound like its a dick measuring contest. “Oh you got that item installed here just now? i got that in my van installed a long time ago.”

I love how the community has many different builders for each style of nomadic lifesyle. I have been on the fence of getting a tiny home since i am a disabled vet and the barrier to entry was so high with vehicle costs. For me the trailer or Bread / Mail Truck square build would be awesome to help me save money from my disability and be able to travel rather easily as long as i have a vehicle that can tow a trailer or if i get a bread/mail truck in the future.

  • @jayspell179
    @jayspell179 2 місяці тому +31

Great layout and design! This is one of the best tiny box trailer designs I've seen. The lighting scheme is really awesome-looking, especially with the toe-kick lighting, and having the kitchenette and bathroom at the head, rather than the rear of the trailer makes a lot of practical sense.

    • @jayspell179
      @jayspell179 2 місяці тому +6

      1. To address your natural lighting concerns, I might suggest you use a Max Air fan at the front and back of the trailer, so they can also be used for ventilation when off-grid. Additionally, a window in the side door would be a nice feature, so you can see who's knocking, if anyone knocks, while camped, but to stay stealth, use a window tint that obscures people from looking in that window.
      2. To address the countertop space concern, adding a Lagun mount to the cabinet beneath the TV to add an additional table top would be good. You could add an additional mount to the cabinet beneath the bench to have that double as a dining table/desktop when using the bench.
      3. To reduce the weight, you could frame your upright cabinet panels using poplar, filling the void with EPS foam and laminate over it all. That would also work well for interior doors. Also, if you use mirrors that are acrylic, rather than glass, you can reduce that weight. It all adds up, so saving a pound here and there makes a huge difference, even in a build that small.
      4. Another way to cut weight, if the person is willing to make their bed, everyday would be to eliminate the elevator bed in exchange for making the sofa a jack-knife or futon-style bed.
      5. I love the wood finishes you use, but anywhere you're not using wood to bear a load, you can use laminate over EPS foam, improving the overall insulation quality and reducing sound transfer, such as walls and ceilings. So long as there is sufficient framing to attach your fixtures and furniture, You could probably reduce the grand towing weight another 200-300 pounds by looking into the weight reducing suggestions I've given.
I still think this is a phenomenal build, and as I'm getting ready to help my grandson build out a van for his first time, I can definitely say some of your concepts have inspired me for his build. I hope that my input is useful for future builds. I was a nomad 20 years ago, and I support the cause, even though my health and responsibilities prevent me from traveling full-time, these days. You're doing something truly good for many people who need cheaper housing or want to travel in style, when doing so recreationally. Jarrod chose well to feature your work.

That little trailer is perfect for smaller cars. It’s actually livable because of the deck and cost. Side door. Ac. Heater. Insulation, stove, microwave. Omg so many people who are being gouged 2000-3500 a month for a studio or one bedroom or close to homeless could totally live here comfortably and secured. Love it. Towable is such a key. I’m seeing tiny homes getting huge. Vans bigger and bigger and expensive. The prices are right for this quality and amenities.

I would add a window in the door to bring in more light as well as helping to make the space feel more open and provide an opportunity to be able to see the view outside.
As for more counter space, you could add a flip up countertop on the inside of the door, which could also double as a desk/workspace or a place to sit at to eat and just have a little foldable stool that tucks away somewhere.
Also, in the kitchen I would take advantage of the wall space for more storage opportunities. You could frame out little nooks in the side walls with hooks and/or shelves to hang cooking utensils, store spices, dish soap, ect..
And to better use the storage space under the sink, I would add shelving or racks on the inside of the doors for things like cleaning supplies, trash bags, cooking wraps and whatnot. And maybe also do that on the inside of the closet door for toiletry items, makeup, or jewelry.
You could also add more light in the space by adding a window in the back door/ramp that's strong enough to withstand the weight to walk on and be able to handle bikes or whatever you're loading in the trailer.

Great build out! Nice to see you incorporate some of the suggestions from the comments on the last video that means you're listening. Just an idea, I was looking at the back of your side door. You have dados cut into it. What if those dados were cut so you could slide in hooks or maybe a flip/up down table and if you didn't want to keep it there you can always remove it but you can configure it any way you'd want to. It just could give you a little bit more storage options but everything is great

Adjustable shower head that has a removable head would be a must.

This is perfect, you nailed it with the layout. I was never a kitchen fan when it came to these builds, I feel like it takes a lot of room. all I need a fridge, small sink & a air fryer 😂😂😂😂 I don’t need all that counter space. I’d prefer a bigger closet & bathroom. Bathroom because I don’t like when the toilet and shower are together, it has to be separate or some type of curtain to separate the 2. Closet has to be big for me because I don’t want it to just fit seven outfits and three pairs of sneakers. The bed would save a lot of room because everyone seems to get a queen, a full-size to me is perfect especially if you’re by yourself. Storage to me is everything. Ima have to get your # or something lol you seem to understand the builds better than anyone I’ve seen doing builds so far

I also using senville minisplit for heat and a/c, cost $ 1200. No maxfan or a/c on roof. Enough room to fit 3 400 watt solar panels and 22”x48” skylight over bed. Wall mounted fan and vent in bath. Keep electrical cost down by using renogy charger solar inverter combo and two EG-4 100 amp 48 volt batteries

One thing that would be nice is if it could somehow be made with a rigid screen for someone with pets they don't want to get out. The way it is, the pest could just walk out. Especially great for a bigger person like me , (6.2), since the Van ceiling hight would get "old" really fast...lol...
I LOVE the chopping block feature ❤
(Is there an outlet in the kitchen, to maybe keep one "cooking-plate-option"?
    I prefer the size you're showing. "12ft"
But that's because I'll be "alone".
I also prefer less windows, unless there's an option to do "sliding-covers" to keep it "stealthy, but also warmer", to cover the windows; if you travel to colder places.

Hey Keon, you have created a great design with these two trailers. I commented with a suggestion earlier in the first video, but I'll offer the same idea again here. If the side door opened into the shower/'mudroom' you would be able to make an el-shaped kitchen onto the existing door wall and a window could be added mid counter on that wall. Would weight distribution allow the shower to be on either side of trailer? To me, it wouldn't be so odd to enter thru your large shower, especially with the sliding shower door being open and possibly the toilet slid under a front wall counter out of sight with shower head also on the front wall maybe set above or in the top of a large mirrored medicine cabinet so you'd be just walking thru an open tiled entry/mudroom. The four feet of wall space between tv side shelf and kitchen counter seems kind of wasted as it is now and maybe the water tank and pump etc. could go in the kitchen blind corner freeing up usable space below sink and adding four more feet of counter and base cabinets (and cost though also).

Great video. You should do a glass sliding door where the kitchen is. It will have all that natural lighting. I do love it how you have it though.

That's just beautiful, and I would love that. I could see this during tail gating and it would be great if the TV could be pulled out to face the deck

This is phenomenal! 😍 I was sad to see van become so out of reach price wise…this feels attainable! Question: would a small/marine wood stove be doable?

For the shelving, consider making them so that you can put stuff in them so that it won't fall out while towing. I would definitely consider a build with an outdoor kitchen and an awning so that you can delete the kitchen space on the inside, and I would delete the TV, in lieu of a adjustable arm for an ipad or something similar. Imagine if you took the kitchen out of the interior and used the shelf space on the side to build a hidden outdoor kitchen with a 270 degree awning that also covered the back patio. The door would open on the kitchen side as well. Suddenly you have the space to put a sitting area that is separate from the bedding area. A dometic ice chest that is inside but can slide outside by the kitchen as needed. I would definitely watch a lot more overland trailer camping videos if I were you so that you could see the value in creating something inbetween what you're doing now that focuses on style and home comforts and work on a happy medium between functionality in the camping world and still has some comfort and plenty of style.

I like this layout. Could you do one with recliners instead of couch?

Love this work! Do you add Carbon monoxide detectors, fire extinguishers and USB outlets? Also would be good to have a full length mirror in a pocket door of the bathroom to protect it from possibly breaking while on the road.

Dude, it's beautiful as usual. You've got a good eye. Great idea for more counter space!
Again though ... there was a lot of "I wanna do this" "I'm gonna do that". Just say "The client can put a small power station under the TV to power their electronics." Say "There's a space for a box deisel heater on the outside to reduce the odor." "The owner can upgrade to the doorbell camera if they want."
There aren't "only" 2 windows. There are TWO windows, 2 skylights and a 7x8 screened window/entry in the back.
    Bug screen on door?
    Riser to elevate TV?
    Skylight above bed?
P.S. Your Ravens barely beat My Commanders this year. 😂

Thoughts: 7ft wide, convection microwave, would you mix things up with a Murphy bed & would that save some weight, oh and how about an awning off the back.

You can add a long tall window in-between the side door and book shelf of the entertainment center (behind you at marker 19:43) you can make it the height of the entertainment center, this will allow for a view of nature from the living room and sleeping area when the ramp is closed helping to eliminate the feeling of being closed in and it will open up the space, a black out shade the same color as the exterior will allow for privacy and keep the stealth mode.
