This song was actually written before he had been diagnosed with epilepsy. It was about a girl he met while working at the dept of disabled services who had epilepsy and died from a fit.
@@jumofifrom what I read he was working helping people finding jobs and one girl who had epilepsy had died while having a siezure and then he got diagnosed with it and then that when he wrote this song about her
I think one of the things that made Joy Division so great was that all 4 band members were incredibly good at what they did. Listen to the manic drums, the driving gloomy bass the experimental guitaring and keyboards and of course Ian's haunting vocals. That's usually the mark of a great band when all of the band member's are equally strong.
+madstylesnz I donno man, the vengaboys member's talents are "equally strong".. I don't really get what's profound about saying these guys are good therefore they're good. Although yes they are excellent.
holy shit this is the most beautiful thing ever, you can see all the pain and sorrow in his eyes, now this is how you preform a song, you let everything out, you can see that he preforms from his soul, such a beautiful and pained soul, rest in peace Ian
Ian Curtis could say more in 1 line than most song-writers can say in an entire song. Truly gifted! Later songs like "Ceremony" point to even greater poetry ahead. That he died so young remains a huge loss. But it needn't have turned out that way. - With 2 previous suicide attempts, there was no way anyone in his condition should've been forced to tour USA. No surprise he died on the eve of said tour. All those who promised him that JD would take a year off to just write songs, record & do the occasional gig until he recovered... well, what more to say?
His movements are legendary, a wonderful display. The lyrics, the moves, the music. How he switches from slow to fast. But what makes it even better is it isn't really a performance from Ian it's just him being him, that for me makes it the thing of legend. The whole thing makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. We are so lucky to have this to watch and enjoy
Well what can I say , this band has carried me through tail end of 2014 , where I couldn't find it in any medicine or therapy or any advice from my elders , my problems were of a rare nature , missing my child , and joy division brought me back on my feet standing yet again , Words will never describe what it is I get from their music. XxXxXxXxXxXxxxxxxxxx
It is their blues and it has as much poignancy as most blues does because it comes from inside their core. Absolutely wonderfuly wild, solemn and bluesy; if that's an adjective! Loved them from the time I was kid and still believe that their contribution is invaluable and will always be! Mancunian Blues!!
Confusion in her eyes that says it all. She's lost control. And she's clinging to the nearest passer by, She's lost control. And she gave away the secrets of her past, And said I've lost control again, And a voice that told her when and where to act, She said I've lost control again. And she turned around and took me by the hand and said, I've lost control again. And how I'll never know just why or understand, She said I've lost control again. And she screamed out kicking on her side and said, I've lost control again. And seized up on the floor, I thought she'd die. She said I've lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. Well I had to 'phone her friend to state my case, And say she's lost control again. And she showed up all the errors and mistakes, And said I've lost control again. But she expressed herself in many different ways, Until she lost control again. And walked upon the edge of no escape, And laughed I've lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control. She's lost control again. She's lost control.
Joy Division rocks the world...still...i love the poetry in the words juxtaposed very often with the music as well...Ian's dancing i think was his way of channeling his epilepsy.....what a way of transcending...its quite sad he offed himself as i think he was one of the greatest rock and rollers that ever lived...God bless him as he left a legacy for us!
The ignorant and insensitive will focus on his movements, those who can relate to the lyrics will feel his pain with compassion. Thank you Ian for your bravery, thank you Ian for saying fuck you I will be who I am in spite of those who judge me.
Prez Shaka My Epileptic BF gets movements like this called Akathisia - an unbearably painful urge to move and "March on the spot" in his case or fling the limbs around. It's horrific to watch and it can be triggered like a seizure can in him and if driving the car has to STOP NOW because he's 291lbs and 6ft3 he works out 3 times a day and is solid muscle because he has so much "energy" but if he doesn't then it REALLY "builds up" and the eyes go it's torture but he's a HUGE guy compared to Ian so maybe Ian was able to control it? My BF is on 6 medications for the same basic problems as Ian had and they don't exactly "help".
I don't get all the disparaging comments about his appearance. THAT is an exquisite face. If you were to comb every museum in the western hemisphere and examine Greco/Roman statues as well as many 19th century neo-classical figures, you would find this idealized face again and again. It's absolutely beautiful. What is wrong with people today? Rihanna and those ubiquitous Vampire brats all have faces like fetuses, yet that's what gets thrust in my face all day every day (when it's not the plastic and botox faces)... and it's THIS guy's face you're calling "scary" and "drugged"? What the everloving fuck is going on?! Was I out sick the day everyone was ordered to put their heads up their asses?
this song was actually written about a girl with epilepsy that Ian met via is work as a social aid guy. I'm not shure Ian himself was even diagnosed when he wrote it.
