When my son started playing youth hockey in MN 15 years ago I knew almost nothing about the sport other than I liked it and had played a few games as a teen and an adult.
I coached to be a helper on the ice and to help the players become better people, not because I knew the game or the world of hockey.
What I witnessed over the next 15 years were some very different approaches that families have towards their player as a youth, in HS, in Juniors (USHL &NAHL), and in college.
Some families move their kid to different associations every year searching for a group where they can get whatever they want. Most associations don’t work that way so they move on because the family is entitled and wants what they want despite the association being in existence to serve all the players, families and coaches.
If I had to guess, I’d say that’s what’s going on here. Cutter has obviously been good for over a decade and the family is used to getting their way. Maybe the Flyers didn’t give them exactly what they want. But no pro team, especially the Flyers is going to bend over backwards for a prospect even if he’s as good as this guy may turn out to be.
My advice to Cutter: this is a marathon and not a sprint. Have some patience and give your trust a little. If the organization shows it’s not worthy of your trust, that’s on them. He will never know what he could have accomplished working with these really good guys running the Flyers right now.

That's a fair assessment. It may not be family or all of it anyway, it may be how he is being managed. As he gets older and wiser if that is the case hopefully he parts ways with anyone toxic that may be pushing him in wrong directions. If it was something on Philly's part, that changes the situation a bit. We'll only know if the whole truth comes out at some time.

Well said. In addition, Cutter has to learn that you make things infinitely worse by not talking about why you’re unhappy with the team, and unprofessional behavior like ignoring multiple highly respected ex-players is completely unacceptable

They actually have kind of disporved the ahl thing because the money wasnt an issue after July 1st, cutter also said he wanted to go back a second year. Cutter said it was numerous issues that accumulated after 3 months after he was drafted. With all that said, they seem to be petty issues.

That is just objectively false. Gauthier's potential is higher than Drysdale's. It would've been more even with McTavish, but right now the Flyers are undeniably the losers in this trade. Who knows, maybe Gauthier will never reach his full potential, but as of now I'd be happy if I was a Ducks fan.

@@thelastnwah4743I’m a Ducks fan and feel the trade is a win-win. I get it sucks losing out on a prospect like Cutter but Drysdale is a good player. It made sense for the Ducks to trade for him due to the depth we have on D and the lack of depth we had at the Forward position. It also helps that the Ducks can likely replace Drysdale in a loaded defensive draft with an early pick. Philly fans will love Jamie

From what I have heard, he was upset they wouldn't give him an entry level contract last year, so the May timeline works. That said he probably feels he should be on the team and probably be a Top 6 player, so he is hungry and wants to play. Can't fault a guy for that. If you are not going to let a guy play that's not right either. It also will effect his career total earnings as he has an extra year(s) to get through his ELC. I think the kid was done wrong by the team.

    • @shellysmith1037

No he is not hungry to play, otherwise he would have showed up to Dev Camp. He, his agent and fam are playing games and manipulating. Logan Cooley is someone who 'wanted to play'. Cutter is a entitled primadonna who wants to game eligibility and whomever he can.

Kid wasn't nhl ready last year and honestly if the Flyers wanted to play hardball they could have held his rights for a total of 4 years. I guess it must have really sucked to win juniors gold and possibly winning a national title at BC and then joining the team he was born to play for.

Not at all. Krug signed 7 yr deal in STL and was settled down with family and kids and obviously was close with BLues teammates. He just had a NMC clause which many players use in same situation but it just rarely gets out to public when a player uses it.

Spoiled? Insecure? What would drive a player to reject an organization that he knows nothing about? What role does the parents and agent play in influencing this decision? What kind of character does this show.- it shoes that this kid wont have what it takes to be a winner and he will have to work way harder to gain the respect of players in the locker room. This wont go well for him.

If they were trying to protect the kid, they wouldn't have even went into detail about why they traded him. They would've went the route of "We addressed our needs right now with this trade etc..". They kept it quiet so they could keep his value high. Then after the trade is done, they put him on blast. That's not professional at all. Amateur hour from these rookie president of hockey ops & GM's.
Also, the guy on the left with the glasses is about as delusional as Jack Edwards. Sorry

I get what you’re saying, I really do, but go ask around the league about it. Flyers have always been a great organization in terms of taking care of their own. @@kevinyeager799 There is no doubt you have some die hard loyal Flyer players that bleed orange and are dedicated to the franchise (and still remain with them post-retirement). Nobody, even the most ardent Flyer haters (your Ranger fans and your Penguin fans) could argue with that. But taking care of players is a broad topic. You had what should have been a winning core through the late 2000's and the 2010's. I don't necessarily mean a Cup winner, but the results should have been better than they were. Did management really invest in the scouting and drafting necessary? And more recently, what happened with Gauthier? He DID want to be a Flyer? How do you butcher relations with your fifth overall pick? And you're right, the fact that Lindros came back speaks volumes. But I remember the 90s and early 2000s with him, and that guy was grossly mishandled by the Flyers. Him coming back says more about him than the Flyers. I think he recognizes Philly CAN be a good place to work and play (for some). But given everything I just stated, I would not label them a first class organization.
