Bruce - I almost turned off this video when that weird beginning came on. It just turned me off, dig? But I'm glad I stuck with it because this was a really good lesson! I'll have to look for more of your stuff. By the way, in the video, at about 5:07, you show the B section music notation - in the Dmaj7 bar, you've got a G note which should actually be an F# note. The notation is wrong but the tab is actually right! Anyway, nice job, Bruce!

3:35 "We can think of that as a 6 chord". Does that mean the 6th chord in the key? Assuming it's not supposed to be diatonic cause it's kind of like a rootless D7b9 instead of Dm7.
I'm surprised nobody ever created a channel really understanding and showing Joe pass chord phrases and his use of harmony....theres more then enough channels showing licks/lines but nobody really digs into all ofJoe's chord phrases

Hi Marc! For chord melody plaything think of it as a standard improvised solo. So the chart is there as a footprint of how to get into this kind of playing. Kind of different than an "arrangement." which is always the same. So I take a lot of artistic right when playing these, but gave you all a fairly clean example of what the concept is. So, follow the tab - the live lesson is a representation of it (or visa versa). They are close but with normal "in the moment" variations. Once you learn this particular approach, then start to make some adjustments. That is where you can make it your own. Practice measures together - so take the first two then the next (practicing all 4) and so on. I hope that helps! Shoot me a direct if you are still having trouble. PEACE

Yes, Joe is kind of lost gem amongst guitar players in many ways. There is a lot we can learn from Joe’s playing for sure.
