  • This VLOG shows how to solder Electronic Speed controls for RC Planes. At www.RCTWINS.com we fly all electric because we fly so many planes, making them easier to maintain. In the video we explain that you should not alter the length of the motor leads because this can upset the timing of the motor. The Battery leads can be made whatever length that you need. Most of the plane that we fly are Giant Scale and most of the components are not pre-soldered, enjoy

This trick of adding solder between the gun and the work piece to hurry up the heating process is a trade secret I learned nearly 40 years ago, still valuable!

Love your channel and your invaluable advice. However, I have received information from Castle Creations and 5 other sources that is the opposite from your advice about adding extensions to battery vs. motor side of the esc. This is from Joe at Castle: “You can add the extension to either side. You'll want to use 10ga wire regardless of the side you add it to. If you add it to the motor side no additional precautions are necessary. If you add it to the battery side you'll want to add a capacitor pack to the ESC to help with the additional ripple that will be generated.” I had a similar response from Spektrum. I would go with your final word on this, so can you please verify for me the correct procedure. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, for myself, I've added 6 feet to the battery side but don't add to the motor side because I have experienced bad behavior in doing so in the ones that I have tested, I have found that I usually want the esc in the wind anyway so there is usually no reason to extend, most of the esc units already have capacitors on them, I can only go by what I have done 😀. I've extended the battery leads on about 45 12S planes FYI, hope this is helpful :)
