Hi. I followed these steps, and it does not have a OWN THIS BUSINESS? button. The issue is that we set this profile up before Google Maps started being Google my business and we did not put an address in because it was required back then. DO you have any idea how we could fix this?
Thank Brian for this information. I've been racking my brain to figure out how to reclaim a business page since the previous office assistant died. We had no passwords to the email address or recovery email address used. I didn't think to just follow through the with request access button. Google replied that if we don't hear back from the owner after 2 days, then we can get access. Problem solved.

Hey DB, I'm not surprised, as Google is always testing. You'll want to visit www.google.com/business and follow the prompts to enter your business name. Hope that helps!

What if I dont see "Own this business" option next to the "suggest an edit"???
I have tried and the last step after few days is Google will call the number and provide a code for access. But i never get any phone call from that.
If they accepted how long will it take to get account back? Also what if the previous google owner tell google they are current owner? Thanks

I’ve got the “manager” of my business page, (don’t know how and why that happened didn’t request it..) can’t get the ownership of the page😢 it’s frustrating me over two months..chatting with Google through email nothing helps.. feels like it’s all AI replying me over email, there use to be a number I can call and talk to them but doesn’t work anymore😢help meeeee plzzz
Something here is contradictory or surprising: around 2:08 the speaker says most of the ownership requests they get are fraudulent and you should be careful. Towards the end of the video he says if you send an ownership request and the old owner ignores it for 7 days you can re-request and you'll just get the ownership by default.
This seems like pretty weak security. If scammers want to take over business profiles they can just request ownership for a bunch of them and statistically speaking a good ratio of their requests will get ignored and they'll be able to take over. Is that right?

When I click on the 'Own this business?' link i'm taken to a different page than in your video. It is the 'Create profile' page. "Start building your Business Profile". It asks me to enter my business name and category like I am creating a new listing? What does this mean? Does it mean there is no google my business listing even though it shows up as one? Hy Bryan, here is the problem: On a very old account I cant access my old phone simcard and I am missing the password and the backup emailadress. I have the gmail account adress. Is there anything possible? If not... is it possible to get this account "deleted" so that I can setup a new one, on the same name, after a period of time?
How did you end up fixing this issue? We are in the same boat but we have 200+ reviews on an old account. It hasn't been active in 3 years but doesn't show up, we are hoping to recover/reactivate it.
